XXX Food Porn or Photographer’s view of DxDP-Updated 8/27

Like the Biergarten, we had eaten at Marrakesh on our previous trip. And like Biergarten, my family was very sceptical about eating here. They again enjoyed it so we did it one more time. However I should note that the food here is very different than your normal fair and may not be for everyone.

We started off with a little bread. My girls love bread and this was yummy.

DW ordered Chicken Bastilla for an appetizer which is Baked layers of thin pastry stuffed with seasoned chicken, eggs, fried and sprinkled with cinnamon and powdered sugar.

Again we had a friend join us and she ordered a very nice prix fixe meal that included this as an appetizer.

I ordered the seafood bastilla which was baked layers of thin pastry stuffed with shermoula sauce, grouper,
shrimp and mushrooms. DD16 and I thought this was pretty good but DW did not like it that much.

DD10 ordered the Shish Kebabs for her entree. Grilled tenderloin of beef served with roasted potatoes and vegetables. I don’t know if I mentioned this before but we tried to order four different items for each course just so we could try as many items as possible. We all shared and there were even times when two or more exchanged dishes. There were a few exceptions to this when choices were limited or something looked so good more than one would order a single item.

My DW loves lamb so she got the Roast Lamb Meshoui. A Moroccan traditional dish, with dried fruits orange flavored couscous. She thought it was a little dry but tasted good.

DD16 felt very adventurous and got the Berber Feast, which included Chicken Kebabs, Roast Lamb Meshoui and couscous.

I ordered the Chicken Kebabs. Little dry but very tasty.

In the middle of our entrees the floor show began. Two musicians and belly dancer came out to entertain us. I should note here that the lighting is very difficult in this restaurant. On our last visit I shot using only available light and never could get the white balance(color) correct. This time I used my flash to overpower the room colors for the food shots but forgot to dial up the flash so the colors did not come out that well. I therefore changed them to black and white which I like.

My girls were scared that the belly dancer was going to make the dance but she left them alone.
On to desserts. You won’t find any chocolate here but pastries and honey based delights.
DW ordered the Marrakesh Delight. Fresh fruit salad topped with mint ice cream, toasted almonds and orange
blossom water.

Both DDs ordered the Moroccan Symphony which was Assorted Moroccan pastries.

I was once again delegated to getting the other dessert Bastilla which was Crispy leaves of pastry topped with vanilla cream & sprinkled with toasted almonds. I happen to come out the winner of the dessert of the meal.

Overall a good experience but like Biergarten we will probably skip this on our next trip and try something different.

Thanks for looking.

I just found your TR and read it all in one sitting. OMG! Great, great food porn! :worship: Can you tell us more about your photography equipment too? I am going to upgrade from a P&S to a DSLR sometime before Christmas and welcome all advice and recommendations. Once again, great dining TR. :thumbsup2

YAY we just made ADR's for Morocco today was hoping to see a good review, I love moroccan food :):yay:

This was one our best dining experiences during our trip. This was our second signature restaurant of our trip and just a short elevator trip downstairs. AP has a very relaxed feel to it. I refused to take pants to Florida in August but I did take dress shorts. I really felt comfortable here and saw everything from jeans and tank tops to dressy casual. Anyway I got early one morning to take a picture of an empty restaurant.

We had a very chatty waitress that explained all of our options for the evening. She first brought out some fresh sourdough bread and butter with black sea salt. Yummy!

My DW is Italian and loves risotto, crab and oranges. I should have gotten a shot of her face when she took her first bite of this Dungeness Crab Risotto with Blood Orange Sauce and Pea Shoots. It was delicious.
WDW-Aug-7-pm-8-of-27-L.jpg

DD10 lives for tomatoes so she ordered the “The Chef’s Garden” Heirloom Tomato Salad, with Sweet Onions, Eight-year Balsamic, Buffalo Mozzarella Foam, and Virgin Olive Oil. She said they were very fresh but the Mozzarella foam was a little weird.
WDW-Aug-7-pm-9-of-27-L.jpg

I ordered a nightly special of crab cakes but I somehow did not get a shot of them.

DD16 ordered the Smokey Portobello Soup with Roasted Shiitakes and Chive Oil. This had to be the creamiest soup that I have ever tasted but you have to like mushrooms because the flavor is very intense.
WDW-Aug-7-pm-10-of-27-L.jpg

I had made up my mind before we got there that I was going to have their signature salmon. This is the salmon being taken off of the cedar plank.
Cedar Plank-roasted “Copper River” King Salmon with Confit Artichokes,
Petit Zucchini, Baby Carrots, and Bacon-Egg Vinaigrette.
WDW-Aug-7-pm-12-of-27-L.jpg

Here it is once it was plated.
WDW-Aug-7-pm-15-of-27-L.jpg

DW ordered the Pan-seared Alaskan Halibut with California Asparagus, Morel Mushrooms,
English Peas, and Citrus Juices. It was very good but not as good as the salmon.
WDW-Aug-7-pm-16-of-27-L.jpg

DD10 the steak queen ordered the Grilled Certified Hand-cut “Prime” Black Angus Beef Tenderloin with Marble Potatoes, Garden Beans, Pearl Onions, and Green Peppercorn Butter on the side because she did not know how spicy it would be.
WDW-Aug-7-pm-18-of-27-L.jpg

Over the last year I have turned DD16 on to scallops. She ordered the Seared Diver Scallops with Blistered Heirloom Tomato Risotto, and Herb Pistou. Later in the trip she ordered other scallop dishes but look back to these as the best. Now she is also in love with risotto.
WDW-Aug-7-pm-19-of-27-L.jpg

On to the desserts and they were not disappointing. DD10 won to night with the Chocolate Indulgence , Valhrona Chocolate Ganache with Salted Chocolate Ice Cream, Amarena Cherries, and Dark Chocolate Crumble. I was really happy with this photo and the cake was unbelievable.
WDW-Aug-7-pm-20-of-27-L.jpg

DW ordered the no sugar added Berry Mousse with Blueberry Sauce, Vanilla Ice Cream, and fresh Berries. It too was very tasty.
WDW-Aug-7-pm-22-of-27-L.jpg

DD16 ordered the Baked Peach Upside-Down Cake with Sweet-and-Sour Caramel Sauce and Roasted Peach Ice Cream. Again very good.
WDW-Aug-7-pm-24-of-27-L.jpg

I have read reports that this use to be better but I am a sucker for a good cobbler. Artist Point Cobbler, Seasonal Berries and House-made Black Raspberry Ice Cream. Not knowing what it was like before I really enjoyed this.

Again thanks for the comments and stopping by.

Go to a store hand hold all of the different makes and models. How it feels in your hands is a lot more important than the brand. All of the brands (Nikon, Canon, Sony, Pentax,Olympus) will all take amazing photos. When you choose a brand you are just buying into that family of lenses. Learning how to use them is really the secret. From there it is what is in your budget. The real expense comes when you start buying lenses.

Great Artist Point photos! AP is absolutely one of my favorite Disney restaurants - we tried many of the same dishes as you and thought they were wonderful (crab risotto, chef's garden, salmon, scallops, berry mousse, cobbler, etc).

I am in :thumbsup2. Your pictures make the food look absolutely amazing. I understand that even though it looks good, it may not taste that way, but amazing pics none the less. Can't wait to get all the way through and see more. Thanks for posting.

Excellent photos. I enjoyed your post.
We ate here for the first time in May. I consider it a great Disney secret. The food we ate was superior to anywhere I have eaten in the Magic Kingdom.
The service was wonderful and I thought the quality was truly 5 star.

Holy moly that Chocolate dessert from AP has me drooling on my keyboard!

Where do I start !!

I am totally loving this dining review and really appreciate the photography tips as well :worship:

Your dinner at AP looks so delicious :cloud9: I had the mushroom soup, salmon and cobbler when I ate there in May but I would love to try the scallop dish that your DD ordered, it looks amazing

Wonderful photos as always, never has reading a dining review made me feel so hungry popcorn::

I have a confession to make, I have been picking through your reviews and reading up on the ones I have ADRs at for our upcoming trip in Oct. Today I read the one on WCC breakfast. I totally agree about the convience of having a great breakfast spot right at the resort your staying at and the food choices for breakfast look so yummy. I only have one moring planned at WCC, our last but those pics made me want to switch ADRs :rotfl: DH said he wanted to visit other resorts this trip so we will be on the run most mornings.
Again love your pics and discriptions :thumbsup2

Enjoyed your review of Marrakesh and Artist Point.
We had ADRs for both of these restaurants but have since dropped than changed our plans so many times it is not funny. Too many places to eat and not enough time.

DH has wanted to try Marrakesh since our first trip to WDW but for some reason we just never make it. Previous years I have to admit it is due to traveling with our DSs or others who just had no desire to try the food. While your pictures are great, as is your review of Marrakesh, My picky DH would say the best thing on the menu would be the belly dancer. :rotfl:I am rather glad now we dropped that ADR for our next trip

Artist Point looked wonderful and I am rather sorry now that we changed this ADR. It is going to take some will power to not look to change around meals again and re-add AP to our list of reservations after reading your review and seeing the picture. I want the scallops so bad now. I wish we had 10 days like you but with only 6 days it is so hard to pick and choose where we want to eat.:confused3

Wow! Everything looks great and excellent photos :)

We have DxDDP for 21 days so I am looking forward to see how you fare as the trip goes on :rotfl:

So glad we have Artist Point after your glowing review :thumbsup2

Your pictures of the Biergarten are I think some of the best I have seen. :thumbsup2

DH and I are looking forward to going back there this year, went there for the first time in 2009 for lunch. Trying Dinner this time although I believe there are just a couple of different additional items at dinner than at lunch but since we are on the DxDP in Oct the $10 leap in cost for dinner is not an issue plus we know now we like the food

After reading your review I am happy we decided to book Biergarten again.

All of the food at Artist Point looks amazing, but those desserts look to die for!! What great pictures!

This is the best review I have ever seen. Your pictures are just amazing!

I think everything is getting more gorgeous the more you post !! Seriously, you are an AMAZING food photographer ! I am just absolutely enjoying everything !!!

(it sure makes my crappy bagel for breakfast look kind of dull.....:rotfl: )
