XXX Food Porn or Photographer’s view of DxDP-Updated 8/27

Glad you see you liked Yachtsman so much, it's one of our favorite signature restaurants. Plus, your pictures are like works of art. :)

Also, was there chicken liver on the beef wellington dish? When we ordered it, the plate was covered with chicken liver even though there was no mention of liver on the menu. It was rich and heavy and ruined the dish for my mom (who actually likes chicken liver). Your pic looks slightly different, so I'm curious now.

Yes there was no mention of the chicken liver on the menu. I knew that authentic beef wellington includes that, so I asked our waitress. They do have that on theirs but I don't know why they don't mention it on the menu. That could very disappointing to someone that orders this without knowing. Anyway she had it without the chicken liver.

This was also our first visit to Yak and Yeti. I loved all of the choices that they offer. It just started to rain when we entered the restaurant so it was a welcome relief. The theming of this restaurant is amazing. We sat in the downstairs so we did not see what was upstairs.

It is very dark inside and little to bounce my flash off of so I had to shoot with a narrower depth of field than I would have liked to.

I started off with much anticipated Wok-Fried Green Beans - battered green beans, sweet Thai chili dipping sauce. They were as good as they looked from everyone’s pictures.

DD16 ordered the pot stickers. They too were very good.
WDW-Aug-5-am-230-of-249-L.jpg

DW ordered the Lettuce Cups which were delightful.
WDW-Aug-5-am-232-of-249-L.jpg

DD10 got the Pork Egg Rolls. Sorry I missed the focus on this one. I tried to keep everything to one shot so as not disturb other guest.

We had a friend join us for lunch so we had a bonus entree today. She choose a Seared Ahi Tuna Salad (speical of the day).
WDW-Aug-5-am-237-of-249-L.jpg

DD10 is a pasta freak so she got the Chicken Lo Mein. I have eaten lots of Lo Mein but this one was the best tasting one I have ever had.
WDW-Aug-5-am-239-of-249-L.jpg

DD16 got the Shaoxing Steak and Shrimp. Very good as well.
WDW-Aug-5-am-241-of-249-L.jpg

DW ordered the Crispy Honey Chicken. Very good.
WDW-Aug-5-am-242-of-249-L.jpg

I ordered the Bourbon Chicken which was a little better than the Honey chicken.
WDW-Aug-5-am-243-of-249-L.jpg

On to the desserts. The Mango Pie - shortbread cookie crust sounded so incredible that two of us ordered it. It lived up to the hype.
WDW-Aug-5-am-244-of-249-L.jpg

DD10 is an ice cream freak as well so she got the Sorbet - Mango, lemon, raspberry. All good.
WDW-Aug-5-am-245-of-249-L.jpg

I had to sacrifice and order the Fried Wontons, not. These too lived up to everything that I heard about them.

I am loving your pictures! It all looks really good. I can't wait to see more :yay:

I'm in !! this is great so far ! I can't wait to read more ....and your pics are wonderful ! :thumbsup2

Great pictures! I know Coral Reef gets mixed reviews, but we loved our meal there a few years ago and we love the menu offerings. It's def. on our list for a return visit. Also, my DS12 thought your DD10's Yachtsmen dessert was really cool and he thinks more places should have ways for kids to play with their food! :thumbsup2

Thanks for the info - I honestly think it looks a lot better without the liver, and I might be willing to try it even though my mom didn't love the dish.

Your photos are gorgeous!!!!

I'm subscribing....this is naughty, naughty food porn. :thumbsup2

Wow, your photos are fantastic, I have been drooling looking at them this morning :worship:

Slightly off topic question but what aperture do you use to get your depth of field (it's something I have been struggling with myself)

Anyway onto the food, Yak & Yeti looks wonderful and your desserts at WCC look like heaven on a plate

So looking forward to reading more :goodvibes

You've done something no one else on these boards has been able to do. You made me want to go to Yak and Yeti. :rotfl:Everything your family ordered looks uh-MAAAAA-zing!!!!

Your photography looks awesome! Very clean and sharp :thumbsup2 You didn't find the 70-200 lens difficult for taking pictures of food? My BIL has one and it seems pretty long for focusing on something right in front of you.

Thank you again for all of the kind comments.

I really enjoyed reading your review Linda especially your Roaring Fork Waffles (which are coming soon). I tried to use at least f/4-f/4.5 when shooting with the 24-70 if I was using my flash. But that said depth of field depends on not only aperture but also focal length and distance to the subject. Shooting with just available light I have used anything from f/1.4-4 depending on the light available. I tried not to push my ISO over 1000 but some are shot at 3200.

I only used my 70-200 once because I was out shooting with it in the afternoon and forgot to switch it out in my bag. I would actually prefer shooting with it except for the fact that I have to be 4-1/2 ft away from my subject. Difficult in a small restaurant, Kona Cafe.

We only went to the Magic Kingdom for two mornings since we go to Disneyland all the time. We had never been to the Plaza so we thought we would give it a try. Nothing special but cool and decent food. Since we were seated next to a window I did not use a flash for these. Since we were on the DxDp I did not think we would get an appetizer but I was wrong. We got a choice of soup or salad. Despite it being 95F outside my girls decided on the soups. DD10 ordered the potato soup.

DD16 ordered the tomato soup. Both were good.
WDW-Aug-6-am-208-of-233-L.jpg

I ordered a garden salad which had a nice vinaigrette.
WDW-Aug-6-am-210-of-233-L.jpg

My DW ordered the Chicken Strawberry Salad for her entree.
WDW-Aug-6-am-212-of-233-L.jpg

We were again dining with a friend so bonus entree. She ordered the Plaza Club sandwich.
WDW-Aug-6-am-214-of-233-L.jpg

DD10 got the Turkey Sandwich on a croissant with homemade chips. Very nice sandwich.
WDW-Aug-6-am-215-of-233-L.jpg

DD16 ordered the Grilled Reuben. Funny thing is that it did not have Russian/Thousand dressing on it.
WDW-Aug-6-am-217-of-233-L.jpg

I got the cheese steak sandwich. Being from the West coast I was hoping to have an authentic cheese steak. It was good but not as good as I thought it was going to be.

Now on to what the Plaza is famous for, desserts.

I found out why DW ordered a salad for lunch when she ordered the Brownie Sundae for dessert. This needed two different angles to really capture the essence of this delight.

I again was left to sacrifice and order the New York Cheesecake with Strawberries. To let you know that I do not especially like strawberries but I have lust for cheesecake.
WDW-Aug-6-am-230-of-233-L.jpg

DD10 decided on a chocolate shake for dessert.
