Wow, poor Rhianna!

This makes me sad. Because someone makes someone 'angry' enough, that justifies a beating? No-one--man or woman--deserves to be beaten. No one.

I would be angry also, but I wouldn't beat the person.

No...Rihanna needs help. Chris Brown needs prison.
They both need help, especially if this is not the first time it has happened.

According to the LA Times, Rihanna is cooperating with police. http://www.latimes.com/news/local/la-me-brown10-2009feb10,0,1015103.story

Personally, I think Chris Brown's career is toast. I guess he won't be doing any more duets with Jordin Sparks.

agnes!

Well, he is persona-non-grata now in Rihanna's home country, Barbados. Barbadians are very loyal to their own, and Rihanna is most definitely one of our own. I have friends who are calling for radio bans of his music here, and I must say, I haven't heard any of his songs played in the last few days, so maybe the radio stations have the same idea. People are angry, and with good reason. I hope her parents bring her home for some R n R, and to get some distance from her high-pressured life and him. It's not easy for a girl from a small island to make it big in the world - I imagine she's been pretty star-struck by most of the people she's met, including Chris Brown, and that would make it harder for her to stand up for herself against mistreatment. That's why Evan Rogers and others have tried to protect her so much.

Did she rape him? Sex carries risks. If he contracted herpes from her by having consensual sex then he gambled and lost. There is no justification for physical violence, ever, by men or women. Women sometimes are the aggressors, too, and that is equally unacceptable.

so what defines the line of determining what is violence?

Hypothetically
Knowingly transmitting a disease that lasts a lifetime (which is a crime, for certain diseases) or hitting someone (something that most people recover from rather quickly).

Not saying it is right. Just asking...

I think I know what you are reaching for, but it still doesn't fly. We are all responsible for our own behavior. Being "provoked" isn't an acceptable excuse unless you are in imminent danger.

I heard the same as Raykaymom, that she gave him herpes.
Would that justify the beating - I don't know.

Well, I know I would be more than just a little angry if someone gave me an incurable disease (from apparently cheating on me) that would also affect every other dating/sexual relationship I had for the rest of my life.

Yeah....dont' think it 'justifies' the beating... but it gives another take / reason for his behavior....not saying it's ok, but I have to admit, I can see a jerk reaction (jerk in both terms) to the news....

Please tell me you used the wrong word. NOTHING justifies beating a woman. :sad2:

I agree about not 'justifying'... but for Missy who said NO ONE deserves to be beaten..... totally off topic... someone who purposely harms my child WILL DESERVE, and WILL BE beaten.... - Can't make blanket statements...

:teacher: Right.. they are both acts of violence, one is just more visible than the other.... Again... don't know if the disease part is true (just hearsay for now), but we also don't know the extent of her injuries or what took place that night... I've heard of women beating men too... it could have been a reaction, or built up turmoil - We'd look at it totally different if it was the other way around....

But...as I stated before... we (the public) dont' know the WHOLE story.

Check out YOU TUBE and the comments that are being left on the videos.

People are mad and venting in everyway they can.

What defines violence? Well, I guess we could start with the law. Regardless if a person gave you an STD or not, HITTING IS AGAINST THE LAW. I don't care if it's the guy hitting the girl or the other way around, still abuse, still wrong and still against the law.

If you can't control your anger and work it out without hitting someone, then you need not be in a relationship. I can understand the emotions behind it, but not the actions themselves. I don't care if he found out she was pregnant with some other guys child, HE HAD NO RIGHT TO PUNCH HER, HIT HER OR BITE HER.

Trying to justify it doesn't make it right.:sad2:

Ugh...I honestly don't believe this whole herpes thing. He didn't just contract herpes in the car, he would've had to already know and maybe have seen a doctor by then. So why be around her? I would stay faaaaaaaaar away from anybody that could have possibly given me herpes. I darn sure wouldn't be driving them anywhere.....and one reason for staying away is because....not saying it's right....I would kick somebody's *** for giving me that disease. Period. So the only solution is to stay away, for the sake of everybody involved.

I haven't heard any of his songs on the radio around here either since this happened.

ET had the story and now the rumor is Rhianna read Chris Brown's text messages from a woman he's been secretly seeing and that is what the fight was about.

I heard the same as Raykaymom, that she gave him herpes.
Would that justify the beating - I don't know.

Well I know, it would NOT justify a beating. I doubt very seriously this is true anyway.

Everything is speculation... I would never condone a guy hitting a girl, but, again, gossip and speculation I've heard give him a reason that many at my work have said it makes sense that he snapped - dunno...
'Supposedly' she gave him an STD, which, in their 3 yrs together, shouldn't have ever appeared...

There are 2 sides to every story, and I'm sure I'll get flamed for even bringing up a defense for him... I'm not defending him.... I'm just putting out there the shock that may have put him over the edge...
Of course, as I read here...it was alot more than one punch which is what I initially heard.

Again... we don't know these people, we have no idea the whole story that took place.

The whole story? There is nothing that she could have done or said that would justify this beating. Let's not keep supporting the myth that it's the victim's fault or that the criminal has a valid side of the story. That's just garbage.

Exactly!!

Yeah blame the victim first of all I don't think while leaving a party and driving down the road all of a sudden Chris discovered he had herpes!! Oh and when my daughters ex used to slap, choke , kick her etc. she was being a [edited] at the time so yes there's always an excuse.

I emphatically agree!

....and peevishly note that "emphatically" has never been used in any squeaky clean R & B ballad I have ever heard....... no significance really, I was just wondering if Bobby Brown has "weighed in" on this yet......
