Wow - we had planned to do this trip without a rental, knowing we could borrow my dad's car when he arrived in town half-way through our stay if we really needed to. But on a whim DH decided to price a week rental at National's website, picking up at Dolphin and dropping off at MCO, since we were wondering what we'd do with our bags between checkout in the morning and our flight at night.

Price for the week without entering our AP code - $540.

Price for the week after entering our AP code - $180!

This is for a compact (Cavalier) - which is plenty of car for our purposes. That's a 66% discount! Now we've got all the freedom a rental car brings at a fairly inexpensive price. We figure we'll save that much just being able to run out for cheaper food a few times rather than eating on-property.

We felt great about this rate and felt lucky when we went down to the counter the next morning to pick it up (made the reservation about 11:30pm) - several people called the desk and were told "sorry, we're all out of cars for today and tomorrow".

Is this sort of discount normal? We'd checked several times before we flew in and just weren't willing to pay $500+ for a compact car, but $180 was a no-brainer.

Wow! Thx for the heads-up. Sounds like a great deal.

Now if only I could locate that AP sleeve and get the contract number...

$540 does not sound correct for a Cavalier. $180 is more reasonable. It was probably an error.

That's not an unheard of rate. We found a Thrifty code for $79 a week for an economy (and better yet, they upgraded us to a midsize for free).
