Wk Of Sept 22 - WISH Walking/Running Club

Hello, WISHers!

Well it sure is Monday morning. After a GREAT 12 miler on Saturday I should have expected today's run would not be quite up to par. I got in 4.8 miles in my 45 minute run but was breathing pretty hard at the end. I've also got a blister that popped up again. Good news is that the hip feels pretty good right now!

WWDave - :stir: fits better than  !

Mel - I am also freaking a bit at going past 13 miles. This weekend I drop back to 10 and then next Friday I'll have to do 14. Yikes!

Wendy - So sorry about your dad. Congrats on getting the 20 miler in! I really wanted to get to that concert but LTO.

Kim - I am excited for your half next weekend! Woo hoo!

Vic - Just keep at it! It will get better.

ironz - It's great to have a good finish on a 7 miler!

Christa - Glad the ankle's feeling good!

Susie - WTG on the 8 miler!

Bill - Yikes on the killer frogs! The thing I've had to watch out for here is the fire ants which seem to be taking over.

Martha - Great job on the pace for your 7 miler! Accept it - you're that fast!

Steve - Sounds like you got plenty of XT in last week. Hope the knee makes it through the LR next weekend!

Stacey - Ramping up the distance is exciting and scary at the same time!

Lily - Hope you can get into the groove!

Stephanie - Good luck with the race next weekend!

patsBill - laundry + installing a door + watching football = xt?

TXAng - Ask the doctor! He will probably say yes, but you need to make sure!

Lou - Sounds like fun with the Garmin!

Heather - I still have not gotten up enough courage for an ice bath!

Jen in GA - Yuck! That humidity in horrible!

Sorry if I missed anyone. Happy training, all!
Renee

I am dedicating myself this week to get in some consistent walking, as my posture now resembles a derivative symbol instead of a question mark (I may be big/jumbo WWDave, but NOBODY calls me a shrimp). I will keep up with a couple days of strength, some stationary bike (hopefully) for aerobic and figure out my core exercise plan to do at least 4x per week but hopefully more. Add in the job and the family stuff and as long as there are 36 hours in a day I should be good, as long as the DW doesn't bring me home any more surprises. I think I am going to take Roberts lead from this weekend. The whole sleep thing is way over-rated, and its not like I get any consistent sleep anyway.

The good news is the door is up and looks beautiful. Bad news is it needs a little adjusting on the closing mechinism. I'll put that on my list of things to do. Other good news is DW called to ask me if the dryer was working yesterday. Well yeah, the clothes were all dried. Seems its not rotating this AM. So, its my fault (hey, the dryer is 15 years old and runs pretty much all the time with 4 kids plus 2 adults), but as a guy I know everything is my fault, even if I don't know what the thing is. She said she would take care of it (which means I don't have to figure out how to be an appliance repair man after being an electrician two weekend ago and a contractor yesterday) and maybe she will ban me from doing laundry in the future. I'm just happy to see my liberal arts majors from college are being put to good use.

PatsBill Well I still love ya:hug:but we will have to agree to disagree on this one. It was a awesome game, high scoring which I like and , DH, DS and myself had a great day.

WWDaveThanks for having my back buddy:hug:

Kim--Dave has your back? Hope you have eyes in the back of your head.

patsBill - laundry + installing a door + watching football = xt?

Renee--I'd like to think so. If nothing else, I got a good sweat going (at least doing the laundry part (numerous trips from the basement to the second floor) and door assembly/installation portions (I'll count the the time it took to realize I was inadvertantly reading foriegn language portions of the instruction manual as rest breaks).

lourodrigis - wasn't that a GREAT FB game? OMG, the crowd was going wild!:yay: Bout time McNabb and the guys got it going!
You know the really bad part -is that when the Eagles play for the divisional championship (I am thinking positive!) it's the same weekend as the Goofy  This year I missed the Wildcard game. But the way the dates are, in 2008 it'll be the Div. Champ. At least I'll be home in time for the conference championship game:)
Congrats on finishing the Distance Run. Wasn't that a cool medal?

Kim - Good luck in your 1/2 this weekend!

Terri

HI Team... I have nothing to report.... NOTHING. I am so down about that. I had a security issue this weekend that prevented me from doing my LR (I wasn't at home, so couldn't use my TM). This weekend is the infamous Rump Roast Run and I really want to do it, but a little concerned that I am slow. I want to do the 10K because of the mileage. I know I could do fabulous on the 5K, that year I PR'ed on this one. Should I just do the 10K and not worry about being dead last and the volunteers ready to pack up the route??? I can do it in about 75 minutes normally, if my foot is feeling good.

Tonight I need to get back into training. I am really in the dumps because I am not able to run when I want to and where I want to. So my stubborness just wants to give up. Stupid huh!!!!!

Oh Hey... all you Football Fan.... HOW ABOUT THEM PACKERS?????????????

Mel - ROCK ON!! You had a great LR. I am so proud of you for getting that speed back. Now take it easy on the foot so you don't have any problems.

Vic - I am so with you on the running issues. I hate those bad runs. I hope you can get past the foot pain (Is that the problem??)

Martha - I would be tickled to run into DH when running. Tho my DH is a turtle, so it wouldn't work that way. But that is cool you intersected. I am so jealous of everyone that has a spouse/running partner. After DH's knee surgery, I know I will never get that. Tho he rides a mean bike!!!

OK, I have to get back to work. I have to run out and get some flash drives at lunch. One problem, the major bridge in our city was shut down earlier this month for unsafe conditions. It is only 2 years old, but inspections show it should have never opened. After the bridge collapse in Minneapolis, they are really cracking down here in Wisconsin. Well, with this bridge shut down, there is no easy way to get across our lake and river. Oh and the highway is under construction and down to 1 lane many days. So we have major traffic congestion here.

Have a good one all!!!

We sent off for our Disney Dinning Experience request on the 6th of the month and we got our card today, that's 20% off margritas and beer as well as food.

Erica and I went for our 7 miler and it was very pleasent. It was hot by the time we were done but we walked in the cemeteries so lots of shade trees. I was having fun protecting my Lady from the squirrels. They are massing for an uprising.

What is it about women that gives them the edge in endurance. Erica can just take off and walk a half marathon with almost no training and do very well. Robert mentioned that Linda can do Goofys with almost no training. Do they have an extra gene or something?:confused3

Even in the wild it's the mamma lion that chases down the antalope. Dad just hangs out under the shade tree. Maybe that is our destiny guys and we shouldn't fight it.pirate:

Does anyone have the picture saved that was talen at Pop on the friday afternoon before the 2007 half? Could you post it please?

Steve

The better story, by far, is that at about mile 10.25 yesterday I was moving along at a comfortable pace, when I felt a tap on my shoulder, and by the time I turned and saw the source of the tap, Martha was past me. I accelerated to catch her, and then we ran the last few strides of her 7 together.

The less interesting, and more truthful story, is at about mile 10.25 yesterday I saw Martha coming about 50 meters away, headed towards the same point I was. I calculated our relative paces, and figured out the point where we would intersect. As we began to converge I realized she was going a good bit faster than I anticipated, so it took us a bit longer to meet. We did run the last few strides of her 7, and when she declared victory and began to walk, I took off for my last 1.75.

Although I do have to admit, it was pretty funny that we literally did intersect yesterday. Yes, we parked in the same location, but I left the house well before her, and in our runs we independently ran all over the paths and streets of the town. What are the odds of the 2 of us converging at the same spot and same time?

Good for you taking some time. Those long runs really stress your body, and make it more likely you'll get injured. Being healthy at the start of a race is just as important as being well trained.

Bill

You are a persistent guy, pushing back the long run, and then getting it when the weather allowed, no matter how late. When Lesley was the same age as your little guys I did my weeknight runs at 9 pm, after she was in bed. Psychologically it was easy to get 5-6 miles that late, but going longer was always tough mentally.

Killer frogs? I've heard of Senor Frogs and Kemit the Frog. Is this something new?

Thanks for asking about my second job. Right now the MIT gig is just for this semester. My hope is that I could do 1 course down there every year in addition to my current work, and I'm doing everything I can to make this more likely. I absolutely lucked into this one, but hopefully this will become a semi-regular opportunity.

Mel

You and Martha are partners in fear. She keeps talking about "that day" when her training schedule takes her out past 13 (to boldly go where no man has gone before:rolleyes1 ). Both of you have the base to get there, it's not like you've gone from 0 to 14 in 3 weeks.

Jen

I have some fond memories of me running with Martha biking along and Lesley in the seat in back. One particularly stands out, it must have been 18 years ago, when I ran a hard 7 and they were with me all the way chatting me up. Perhaps you could do the same.

Best

Craig

Duh, offhand I'd say childbirth has alot to do with it. You try pushing a watermelon through a little buttonhole and see how tough you still think a marathon is. :scared1: :scared1: :scared1: :rotfl2:

What is that Valley Girl expression....Like EEEEWWWWWWWW.

Flies

A woman walked into the kitchen to find her husband stalking around with a fly swatter.

"What are you doing?" she asked.

"Hunting flies," he responded.

"Oh! Killed any?" she asked.

"Yep, three males and two females," he replied.

Intrigued, she asked, "How can you tell?"

"Three were on a beer can; two were on the phone," he responded.

Hey there fellow WISH-ers. I haven’t been here in a couple of weeks, but still training along like always. This next two weeks I’ll be spending my time getting my food under control, and walking more routes throughout my still new neighborhood. We just moved here in June. Last week I went to a wellness fair my work put on for us, featuring the local gyms offering discounts to our employees. I have enough free weeks to see me through to November! I really enjoy walking outdoors, but if the weather sucks as much as it usually does in Western Washington, I’ll have to take it indoors many days. The marathonwalking.com plan we’ll be training with has cross training days mixed with walking days. I like that, a lot. I’ve been trying out different DVD’s to use on cross training days. I really like the One Minute Workout with Minna Lessing, which I’ve shared before. I just tried a Pilates workout with a stability ball. That was tough, but I liked it too. I do the Blockbuster Online for our video rentals and they have a whole slew of exercise DVD’s to choose from. I’ll be using that, and the library, to increase my video knowledge.

Have a good week everyone!!! :cheer2:

Happy Monday, everyone!!

Big Vic--are you smiling?? :goodvibes

Does anyone know where to run at AS Music? Planning a little visit, but still need to run (only in my 2nd week of focused marathon training, so I'm not burnt out yet--ha!).

I stayed at ASMu less than a month ago and I had the same question as I am training for WDW too. It turns out that there is a path/sidewalk in front of All Star Resorts that you can run on. It's not the most scenic route but it is well lit and safe. The path runs past the McDonalds, Blizzard Beach, and ends at Coranado Springs. It's about a 3-mile run from All Star Movies to CSR.

I am not sure if this will work but I put a link below that should detail the run from ASMu to CSR.

You know I am a little worried about missing a playoff game for the Marathon. I didn't think about that when I signed up. I guess I'll just have to make sure I get finished with enough time to make it over to the ESPN Zone to watch the game. I may need to send some of my group over there to grab a table instead of watching me suffer across the finish line. At least the ESPN Zone is close to Epcot.

Dave:hippie:

Actually, yes, we do have an extra gene. Remember men are XY and women are XX that extra bit in the second X really pays off. :goodvibes

Dona :)

Oh Hey... all you Football Fan.... HOW ABOUT THEM PACKERS?????????????
Yes, the Packers are off to a great start. Favre looks like he's 10 years yonger.

That was a painful loss we suffered to you guys in Week 1.

Maybe we can have a rematch in the playoffs. We'll never forget that 4th & 28 miracle. At least you won't have to worry about Freddie Mitchell if we meet again this year.

Ugh, last week I was having a tough time feeling the runs....so it serves me right that I calculate my mileage for the week and it comes out to 11 miles total. Kinda small compared to the last bit, but I think I was feeling pretty pooped out and needed a break. Hopefully this week I can get back on track! It is going to be a challenge though - tomorrow night I have tickets to the Calgary Flames vs. the San Jose Sharks so I'll have to run over lunch. Then this weekend is a 6-12 back to back weekend. I'm going to try and run Friday over lunch for the 6, then Saturday morning for the 12. Saturday afternoon I'm off to Banff for a night, so I'd rather not have to wake up and find a 12 mi route in Banff, or either rush back to Calgary to run. Hmm, decisions, decisions....

Yep, that's right. From your picture there we men do look a bit off balance.:scared1:

Thanks...I won't need to run all the way to CSR. Prob. do some intervals in the parking lot, since I'll be there in the middle of the week, then back home for the long runs on the weekends.

Appreciate the link!

Good afternoon everyone. No running today, but I am going to beat up the weights when I get home.

Susie – WTG with the 8 miler!

FLBill – WTG with the 12 miler! You gotta watch those killer frogs.

Martha – WTG with the 7 miler, you speed demon, you.

Steve – Hope the knee is doing ok. I keep forgetting to use the “I’m from Florida and it’s hot” excuse. :rolleyes1 :rotfl:

Stacey – My get up and go left around the 3 mile point. Ain't seen it since. :confused3 ;)

Mel – The foot is ok. It’s still not 100% right, but what the hey. Don’t feel bad about getting freaked out about the long runs. I’ve been doing the same thing.

Stephanie – Good luck with your race.

PatsBill or is it Tim “The Tool man” Taylor – I’m glad I’m not the only one with those unexpected projects. Good luck with the training this week, and fix the dang dryer! Geeez. :lmao:

TXAng – WTG with the training.

Lourodrigis – WTG with the 12.5 miler.

Heather – Sorry your run was a stonker.

Ironz - :)

Kim – Glad to hear you had a fun day yesterday.

GaJen – WTG with the training this weekend!

Renee – WTG with the 12 and 4.8 milers. Sorry about the blister.

Jen – Sorry you couldn’t get a run in this weekend. The foot feels fine when I’m running. I think it’s a nutrition issue. I didn’t eat much before running on Sunday and I think that was a major contributor to the lousy run.

WWDave – DDE. Woohoo!

Rake5 – Good luck with your training.

:)

I you won't miss any of the Eagles playoff games as the Eagles last game will be on Dec 30:thumbsup2

If you go to watch other teams like the Cowboys, better get in line about 10:30. That place is crazy and you may have to sit about 5 1/2 hrs if you just want to watch the 4:00 pm game. Totally crazy as I have watched a bunch of games at a very costly $$$ time.

Talking about running is fun but I can see football gets people even more excited.

I would have to admit that after Week 3 the Cowboys look pretty good but there's a lot more season to go. T.O. has plenty of time to find a way to throw a wrench in this season.

I do agree that ESPN is probably not the place. Maybe some of you other football fans can throw out places to watch the game post-marathon.

Along the way, I was attacked by some killer frogs. I didn't realize how high they can jump but it definately got my attention.

Killer Frogs? Are those green tree frogs?

Just so you know, I would have flipped out with the killer frogs. Let’s just say they’re not my favorite things.

Now, now, Let's not make fun of the frogs; do you not see the avatar to the left? :confused3

(OK, OK; I have a tree frog avatar because my DS(7) loves them. :) )

Hoppy training!
