Wk of Nov 26--WISH Walking/Running Club

I had such big plans for last night but failed to plan well enough in advance. I had no food at work except an apple and a couple slices of fat free cheese, which I ate on the way to the gym. I also neglected to pack my ipod or a water or powerade bottle. The gym was very crowded last night -- Sunny, do you think everyone is trying to lose the 5 pounds they gained over Thanksgiving? :rotfl: -- and I was resigned to a TM without the interval training setting. I only did 2 miles (right around 29:30 minutes) and then 2 miles on the bike.

Hoping to make significant headway tonight on the TM -- 4 miles at least. Then I'll rest tomorrow in anticipation of a very exciting opportunity Friday night. Some sponsors at the University are doing a 5K for Special Olympics Delaware (combining 2 of my passions!). It starts at 6:30 p.m. and is partly on streets and mostly on a jogging trail, which will be a bigger problem for me, vision-wise, than most 5Ks, but I am hoping there will be some Special Olympians at the back of the pack and it will be a fun experience. All participants get long sleeved tees, jingle bells for their shoes and coupons for merchants near campus, including panera bread. I know Jenn will love having those coupons for exam week! :goodvibes: I am looking forward to using my cold-weather running gear that has been sitting on the shelf while I resorted to the TM for all long runs. But I have a great REI tech shirt, running pants, running gloves, etc., etc. My pace may stink, but I'll hopefully LOOK like a runner! :lmao:

ETA: Forgot to say that I have heard that about aleve and other pain medications but I've used the aleve for 3 distance events this year without a problem, so I am hoping I will be fine for the FULL too. Lynne-- I'd be very interested to hear your expert advice on this, sweetie, though I definitely feel like we should arrange for some type of remuneration. :cloud9:

No Rock & Roll Roller Coaster!!!
:sad2: :sad2: :furious: :furious: :sad2: :sad2:

I am out for someones BLOOD! How dare they?

I love this ride even if the seatbelt didn't work the first time I rode it. I was really looking forward to riding it - I am so bummed. I am calling Disney.....

You know, this really doesn't surprise me after what happened at DL. Just because Disney plans these events off season to bring people into the parks when they might not otherwise be there, it doesnt' seem fair that we are then deprived of so many of the best rides/attractions. At DL (the 1/2 was our first-ever trip to that park), the following attractions were down: Matterhorn, monorail, haunted mansion and something else I can't remember. That totally stunk. And all we kept hearing was how it was off-season and the rehabs and holiday deco (for HM) had to happen sometime and off-season is best.

Umm, I must confess, this whole keeping your sodium levels up is news to me! Does it count if you put vodka in the V8? JK! I don't even really drink! Seriously, we are supposed to be sodium-loading the week before? How come I didn't know this?

I'm no expert, but I wouldn't "sodium load", I can visualize us all showing up looking like water balloons :rotfl2: But, some extra sodium is probably not a bad idea. Maybe Lynne can throw in another freebie when she gets back on the NSAIDS ;)

That's what I'm hoping, and not a new trend that will last through training. Our Y keeps doing "membership drives" and I'm thinking, "no! we have enough members right now" I suppose that's a little selfish ;)

Sodium - Lynne may have more infor, but it's basically to help you retain a bit of water and help your hydration for the race. Showing up as giant lime green water ballons woul not likely be good, though. :rotfl:

Kevin plucks his eye-brows :rotfl2: Now I've heard everything :rotfl2: I won't tell you when I saw my first gray hair because it would make you mad. But I will say my Dad is 63 and still has jet black hair! Weird genes-- I'd trade that plus for many, many other things. You've got me scared to death with all your planning... I'm way behind. Goals???? I'm sticking with "finishing" for now!

Sunny

Hooooooooold on a sec...... :teeth: We're talking about a couple of grey hairs here and there. I definately still have man-brows. :teeth: It's not like I have those super-thin things like some people *cough* Joey Lawrence *cough* :lmao:

OMG Kevin! :rotfl: :rotfl2: :lmao: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2: You kill me!

OK Sunny and Carrie - I won't "sodium load" but will have a little extra. I'm waiting for someone to tell me to "brownie load"! :thumbsup2

Hey, Kevin -- I found my first grey hairs at the age of 19 while I was away at college! Oh, and if you think grey eyebrows are distressing, I've heard rumors :rolleyes1 about grey ear hair and nose hairs in men. Something to look forward to, don't you think? :lmao: :rotfl2:

Do you think I could do my sodium load with potato chips? :teeth:

I have a gray nose hair weight rated at 650 lbs, and don't get me started about having to shave my ears. :rotfl:

Ok, I just popped in for a second to check the thread, and now I have to explain to my co-worker friend who was reading over my shoulder why I'm hanging out with a bunch of people talking about gray nose hairs and worrying about looking like lime green water balloons. :sad2: :lmao:

Oh this thread is digressing! :lmao: Thanks for the visual, Big Vic! I'll try not to remember this thread when I meet you, but you KNOW I will! :rotfl:

Psssst! Everbody...over here: Fueling on the go

Krista - Puppy (7 year old puppy), is doing much better. She was crated Monday and Tuesday with no accidents. She was mighty hungry yesterday. I think she is over her tummy trama. DH asked her last night if she learned her lesson, she didn't answer. Now if your Hines keeps eating socks, you may have to deal with this sooner or later!!!

Sunny - Our Y has been packed all week. And those women are vicious, like kick you off the machine after the 30 minute time limit vicious. I tend to run the track because of that, but then the slow walkers sometimes get cranky when I try to run them over!!!

Cam - How about you and me meet Friday night with a bag of Lays. Can't eat just one!!!!!!

Kenvin - WHAT??? Joey Lawrence has girly brows? I didn't even notice. I think the glare from his shaved head must have blinded me. WOOOOOEEEE.

OK, I am letting my rest day get the best of me.... Rest means eat whatever.... YIKES!!!!

Kevin, maybe you ought to look into that Grecian formula stuff. I hear it does wonders for the aging male. :lmao: Of course, this is coming from someone who has been "adding color" to her hair since her late-20's. :rolleyes1

On another note, according to my Jeff Galloway book, JG recommends sodium loading the day before the long run. I think he drinks that Accelerade stuff throughout the day before. I don't have my book with me at the moment so I may have this wrong. I'll look it up tonight.

So, let's see if I can get this straight before I meet some of you. We need to check out Kevin's eyebrows to make sure they're not girly or grey. Unless he's changed, it, I think I can attest to them not being girly. Then, we need to look up Vic's nose and in his ears? I guess you'll know how to recognize us Vic. :rotfl: :rotfl: Just be careful you don't run in to Judy or she maight splat on you! :rotfl2: I think there's somethign in the air today. Thanks for the laughs!

In some of the training I have to take, they talk about eating salty things before you work in the heat. (Yeah, I maily sit on my heiney these days, but I'm prepared for more. :p ) ANyway, they said even a little salt pack is more hthen you need. A pickle or pretzels would have enough. I'm liking the spicey V-8 idea, though. I HATE V-8 plain, but love Spicey V-8. Kind of like not liking tomatoes, but liking spaghetti sauce (which my grandma would argue about with me.).

Jen -- You're on. Salty chips or maybe french fries at the WISH meet Friday night sounds great to me!

Carrie -- you had me :rotfl: and Stephen almost cost me my laptop as I was drinking a FUZE when he posted about a co-worker looking over his shoulder! :lmao:

Super quick drive-by.... Checked my mail today and my Magical Express stuff was in there! Holy smoke! We're getting so CLOSE!!!!!!!!
