Wk of Nov 26--WISH Walking/Running Club

No training for me last night. By about 3pm I had terrible stomache pains that all but doubled me over. Not sure if it is from the contrast/dye they used for my chest CT scan yesterday. I don't think there are any stomache bugs going around my office, so I'm not sure what else this could be. I ate some popcorn yesterday afternoon just to eat something mild, but haven't eaten anything since then. Going to force myself to get some water down now.

Hoping to feel well enough to get on the TM tonight with my new 1122s that arrived from zappos.com yesterday :cool1: Gotta start breaking them in for the big event.

Looks like rain may delay the special olympics jingle bell 5K tomorrow night until Saturday and I am not sure we can make it then, so I am hoping they don't push it to the raindate. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Mel -- I don't remember how exactly I found my way here, but I think sometime around mid-January 2005 (after my heart surgery and when I was making a commitment to myself to get fit), someone suggested I join this happy bunch and I've been here ever since. I have seen others on the CB ask WDW marathon weekend questions, and inevitably, someone directs the OP here before I get there, so I think the word is out that this thread/group/team is here and I think the image out there is that we are a welcoming bunch. As far as the list, I also see a lot of names on there that are MIA, but hopefully, they are still lurking and will be back to posting.

Good Morning Everyone!

So far, this has been a good training week. Even if I have been tired and achey all week, nothing actually "hurts". This is one of those 'recovery' weeks were I only run 34 miles. :lmao: Who am I? :lmao: My veteran running friends inform me that I will continue to ache until 2 weeks into my taper. Oh and that is supposed to be encouraging how?

Mel- I skip the opening post. I would keep the list of names though. As for how I found this thread - I couldn't find it for a long time when I was contemplating signing up. I was on a thread for our cruise so I knew you guys were here but had no idea how to find you. So I posted a question on another board and I think Mouse Skywalker gave me the link here - so blame him that you have to put up with me.

Xterratri & Melrhoads - Did you hear that the guys from Litespeed have started a NEW bike company? They now make completely custom frames. I forget the name of their new company though. DH has already mentioned this to me a few times.... Oh and the car doesn't "match" the bike but don't even suggest that to him or he'll have to buy something else.

As for grey hair - I decided many years ago that I was not going to be pregnant and grey at the same time. Then I wasn't going to have toddlers and be grey. Now, I refuse to be grey for my first marathon. I think I might finally give in to the grey when I am a grandmother. oh and I finally started using a bottle when plucking the grey was consuming too much of my time.

Cecilia

Did someone say Engineer? I knew I loved this group. :rotfl:

Mel - I'm undecided on almost all of it. I'm wondering if we should wait to take a roll call until March or so for 08. Maybe everyone's just lurking, but maybe some were very enthusiatic and just didn't continue on. As fro the current list, I'd leave it. BTW - Thanks for keeping our threads going!!!

I got here, because I saw the posts on teh WISH board, before there was a split. I would not have known WDW had a marathon if I had not seen the team threads. I wonder if we should have a thread over there each week with a link to the training threads and the FAQs. I guess that makes me want to have marathon in our title. Just thinking out loud.

AmyBeth - That sounds like a good plan. You'll have a similar time for your body to be working and it will eb lower impact. :wizard: :wizard: I skipped the 14-miler and did a 9-mile w/r with Heather. I did not feel like I had missed a step for my 16-miler.

Lynne - Thanks for delurking!!!

Kim & fabumouse - Sorry for the belated welcome, but Welcome !!! And please excuse us, but we do get a little off the wall as things get closer. GIve us another week or two and we'll be the sappiest group you've ever seen. Can't wait to hear more about your training. This will be an awesome journey!

Ugh, I never have caught up with everyone this week. :sad2: I'll try harder nexy week.

I did not go out last night. As the day went on, my knees started to feel iffy. Glad I did because they were not happy this morning. Not bad, but not happy. I'm going to RICE 'til Saturday. Scott's talking about leaving a car near the half way point. That way I can stop if things aren't right. Yup, should have snow fro teh 18-miler. Looks liek balance is coming back to my world.

Good morning Team. :sunny:

This morning I went for 55 min @ 15:00, walking. No issues. :thumbsup2

Thanks for all the replies on the Fueling thread. I like Shot Blocks, although Charlie almost spit them out on the dashboard when I gave him one to try. He's being Mr He-Man for this run. Even on training runs he doesn't take anything with him. At the track he leaves a water bottle on the side but hardly ever stops. He's not worried about his sodium levels, hydrating, eating the night before or morning of, snacking in the corral.....Either he is going to do great or we'll all be stepping over him!

Mel - Wow, your so effecient! :thumbsup2 I haven't seen any other teams on the DIS. I found the WISH Team because Cam told me about it on some other unrelated thread. A couple of times when I have found people on other non-related threads that say they are runners/walkers and/or are doing the Half or Full, I let them know about us. I don't know what to say about the name. Both names work for me. I know, I'm no help. Ha ha ha! "bodily function discussions"! :lmao:

Cam - Oh no! I hope you are feeling better today!

Well, you'll all be glad to know over Chinese dinner out last night, I managed to bring up in the conversation how Monte was expecting theee feet of snow but only got ten inches, how Vic has a grey nose hair, how Steve thinks if we drink too much water we'll end up looking like lime green water balloons, how Kevin, who is only 27 years old, has a couple of grey hairs in his eyebrows.... My husband is starting to wonder about these boards.....

:rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl2: :rotfl: :lmao: :rotfl: :rotfl2:

Forgot my story. A 60+ YO in my office really wants to train for 08. His brother did Chicago once and he's always wanted to do a marathon. He was really psyched when he heard about WDW.

His DW comes in last night and he says, "Carrie has to show your her pictures." I have them as my scrren saver.

She replies, "Carrie's working. She doesn't want to have to show me her pictures." :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: Yes, she did get the slide show.

Me again....

New folks--- I just wanted to extend another :welcome: to you all. By all means, please ask questions and get advice from the vets about your training. I know that this time of year the thread moves VERY fast and we get a little punchy (seriously, three pages about my eyebrows.....), but it's sort of like the lead up to Christmas when you're six--- you're so jazzed about what's coming that you just get a liiiitle crazy. That said, you have certainly come to the right place at the right time-- what a better way to get motivation for next year then hanging with the folks doing it this year?! :confused3 I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say that this place is an incredibly valuable training resource.

Whine on.....

Carrie-- Have you seen the weather forecast?!?!? :sad2: :scared: :faint: :crazy2:  :cold:

3 to 5 inches tonight and then more tomorrow. And I have an 18 miler to do!! Well, had to happen sometime. At least it'll be better for work Saturday morning--- oh, 19 degrees, guess not.

Whine off....

What does it say about our addiction that we haven't even run the 2007 race yet and we are already discussing 2008?? :lmao:

Really trying to pretend I haven't seen or heard it. :rolleyes1 You should come up. You and Scott could be speedy together and I could putz. You do yours on Sunday, though, don't you?

It *should* Be better than lasy year, but we have not workedour way down to it. 55 Tuesday night and high of 42 today. WOrse tomorrow. :guilty:

Carrie and Kevin - Same weather here. I am planning on running the indoor track because I am a wimp. How do you run when it is snowing out??? Don't you get panicky about slipping??? I can only run on Saturday because I fly out for work on Sunday.

Tonight I am heading to the Y to run the track while DD3 has gymnastics. My DD6 is going to sit on the padded bench while I run. She packed a bag of things to do, she is so cute. I hope she will last at least 40 minutes... wish me luck!!!

Work is crazy for me and causing way too much stress. I have a presentation to give in Las Vegas on Monday and I am quite unprepared. This is what I get for waiting for the "others" to get their stuff done.

Happy Training!!

Jen - You watch each foot very carefully. We don't have an indoor track or a TM we can use, so we just deal with it. Last year was awful, but that many laps on a track or that much time on a tm would kill me too.

Same here..... or be flexible enough to be able to put it off at least until the roads get a little better. Snow usually isn't bad--- it's the ice that gets you. I hate to push back runs, but that's sort of the price you pay for living in the midwest and training for a January marathon.

Now, unlike Carrie, I do have both an indoor track and treadmill at my disposal, but there is no way I would be able to run literally hundreds of laps around that track or go that long on a treadmill. If I have to push something back due to weather, I'll suppliment a short run in the meantime with one of these.... but 18 miles on a 1/9th mile track... NO WAY

Stephanie - we are still just at 32 deg w/ rain. i don't think the snow starts until about 3pm! I'm pretty excited b/c i felt like we got ripped of in the snow dept. last year!!!!

Kevin, Carrie and Jen - I would invite you here, but we are supposed to get SNOW :-) I'm so excited. I've been singing all day. I am hoping it will be gong by the weekend. I am planning a bike/run on sun. Kevin, comeon, you can do your 18 miles on a track!! Just fill your pocket w/ beans and use them to count. Of course, you can't throw then down after each lap b/c then you might trip :rotfl2:

Cam - hope you are feeling better today. Contrast dye always makes phil's tummy do funny things! (not funny ha, ha)

I did 3 miles in the cold and rain this morning. I'm just proud to have done anything. I don't have the inner commando like sunny. Mine was external (sarah, ec) and since she is not barking at me, i'm totally unmotivated!

Cecilia - I don't know much about lightspeed. I did find some really cool custom frames at soulcraft. The 29er is called holy roller and you can customized the frame fit and look. It would be totally awesome, but it costs so much more than the others!!! Until i built up the bianchi puss, we have only ridden cannondale. I think it is time for phil to branch out :thumbsup2

Chrsita - I'm starting early this year. You can fly into NWA and stay here!!! Sylamore 50k (really cool sweatshirts) here is the website www.runarkansas.com click the link for the sylamore 50 near the top. :rolleyes1

Mine too!!

I often wonder if Dave as told his wife about these boards, "yes, honey I want to run Disney Marathon and oh, by the way, I have been conversing with about 25 strange women and men over that last 10 months!!" :rotfl:

(strange as in strangers, not strange as in strange, well OK, I guess I am a little of both.... :wave2: )

Well, it is winter. Time for sleigh bells, snowflakes...and the annual 'farmer blow' discussion ;)

And guess what I found:

Colleen - we met your man so he has no excuse to call us strange (well except the obvious one!)

Cecillia - DUH read that post the christa. You totally have to come and do that one. it is probably about an hour or so from you in-laws!! Also, you can convince your man to come along and bike. there are 60 miles of excellent single track mt. biking trails in the same ranger district as the race. Here is the link for the mt. biking trails. click the map link on the pg to check them out!!! I'm slower than you, but i'd be so happy to have some company on this if i do it!!!!!!!!!syllamo mt. biking trail info

All I can say is WOW :earseek: Everyone's gone crazy :rotfl2:

Phew! I'm glad to hear Speedy still has man-brows.

Vic-- thank you for sharing :lmao:

Nancy-- Good to hear from you. I'm sorry to hear of your foot, but glad to hear you'll be with us :cheer2:

Speaking of bodily functions and sodium intake; wasn't there someone licking her arm for salt during an LR last year? Carrie was that you?

Mel-- I'm happy with the name, paragraph, etc. I don't think you should have to keep track of who is current or not for the "directory". Maybe it should become a "sticky" thread of it's own if that's possible. As for how I got here, I was part of the orig. WISH Half walking team for '05. I didn't end up going do to circumstances beyond my control and was very hesitant to get my hopes up for '06. I'm so glad I joined you all.

Cam-- I'm sorry to hear you are still feeling sick. :wizard: here's PD to get you back on track.

My b2b LRs have been modified from 10/20 to 8/20 to 6/20 with a day in between :confused3 I did 6 today on the TM instead of the 8 I set out to do. I snuck out of a conference with plans of kranking out 8 and someone from my group showed up on the TM next to me. His presence guilted me into cutting it short. I plan on doing my 20 or maybe 18 or maybe 16... on Saturday outdoors but winds are predicted at 26mph so that might not be fun. However, I can't complain about weather at all. It's been incredibly mild and I haven't done one LR in the frost/snow, ice, hard rain this year. I think MelR and Colleen have been bad influences this week ;) I'm thinking "hey, if they can cut their LRs in half, I can, too! Why be so rigid" :rotfl:

I don't recall doing that, but I sure do get crusty enough that it would be possible. :rotfl: :rotfl:

Crusty..... EEEEEWWWWW :lmao: but I know what you mean!

So I just spent the past hour not doing work, but instead signing everyone I know up for live tracking. :teeth: Are there more pacing points for the half this year, or have I lost my mind?? :confused3

I'm putting this out there so I don't get yelled at--- I may be postponing my LR tomorrow due to the weather. Our newest projections have us getting 4-6 inches of snow tonight and then another 5-10 tomorrow... so unless I get up in the morning and we dodged some big honking bullet, I'm running my 18 on Sunday (which looks cold but snow-free). That should give me enough time off to rest before next weeks back-to-back.

I miss the summer. :guilty:

Kevin :earsboy:
