Wk of Jun 4--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Hey everybody! It's Cam!! :cheer2: :Pinkbounc :dance3: :bounce: :cool1:

Cam - What a GORGEOUS family! You must be so proud! I know you're so busy but it's all such exciting stuff! Whooo hooo! :thumbsup2 Thank you so much for sharing the pics.

Well, we miss you around here, but...I know you'll be back. :goodvibes

Judy

Cam - I LOVE your pics. You and your DD are so beautiful! Glad you are doing well!

Minnie - I LOVE THE BEACH CLUB! :cheer2: :cloud9:

Craig - I was wondering where you were! Glad to hear from you.

aladdinsgirl - LOVE the dog story! I can so understand.

Just finished yard work....Worked in the natural area. Why are natural areas so hard to keep natural? :confused3
Anyway...I am trying to figure out when I can run or bike today. DH will be home late today and I could not drag my lazy butt out of bed this morning early enough to run. It is funny that during the school year I get up btwn 0500 and 0530.....Now that it is Summer break, 0600 seems SO EARLY! I am having a pity party for myself though, b/c I have NOONE to train with! I do all my LRs and SRs and biking and most of the swimming alone. All the short WOs are not to bad, but 11+ miles alone gets boring. I hate listening to the IPOD, but I think I am going to have to give in after 10 miles. WAh, WAH! :sad2: Why di Bree have to get preg??? Wah, Wah :sad2: ...Does anyone feel sorry for me? :confused3

Thasnk for the pics Cam! You do have a beautiful family!

I'll feel sorry for you Christa! I miss Bree too! Plus, I would never get out without my running partner.

Krista - How can we inspire you to get in teh groove again if you don't post??? Please note taht I shoul dbe ateken the lead from you and doing the same thing, but htat owuld be torture. ;)

Awesome pics Cam!

Okay- just to let you all know- by Disney counting it is now exactly 7 months until the Half Marathon as I was able to book the first 5 nights of that trip today and then will call Member Services back on Friday and book the last two. Right now, the plan is come in January 1st and stay until January 8th. I'm booking a 2 bedroom villa at OKW so I can sleep as late as possible for the marathon on Sunday and walk to the start like I did this year. Oh yeah- that whirlpool will be nice too :teeth:

So I've paid my money for the entries and booked most of that stay. Guess I'm going to be doing something Goofy next January.

I counted it out for Mom though and the 20 weeks to train for the marathon doesn't start until late August so don't anyone panic yet. You've got plenty of time to get yourselves healed- do it right now so you're not struggling this Fall.

Lynne - I meant to say something in my last post - you absolutely amaze me with all the races you do! What inspiration to a newbie like me! :worship:

Cam - what a great looking family!

Christa - I am the opposite. I love being out there alone! Chad & I always get into a fight when he wants to run with me. I don't like to talk while exercising, and all he wants to do is talk. Sometimes, I swear he's a woman! :rotfl:

I did get home and manage to go out for 2 miles before Chad left for work (2nd shift). I did have an agenda though...

There's this weird guy that parks his car on the street directly across from our house, in between 2 houses. I usually don't see him arrive, but when he comes back, he does so walking up our road from the main road (we are 3 houses in). He gets in his car & leaves. He usually leaves by 3-3:30pm. Last night I was leaving when he was. I was able to jot down his license plate number. I forgot something, so I then went around our loop back home and he was coming the other way. He passed me - he was taking the extremely long way out of our neighborhood onto the previously mentioned main road.

What bugs me most about this is we are less than one mile from 2 elementary schools. He could be parking here and doing God knows what there. Maybe I've seen too many of those Predator shows on TV lately... My friend thinks maybe he is having an affair with someone and doesn't want his car at that house. In any case, I can't come up with a legitimate reason for him doing what he's been doing.

ANYWHO - at least my busy-body-ness made me go out today and put 2 miles in. I went over by one of the schools to check things out - a route I never go unless it's a real long run. :magnify:

Jodi - Wondered where you'd been... hope your FIL is okay - know it's tough trying to run with all that going on, but the roads will be there when you're ready!

Terri - More :grouphug:

Dave - TAKE IT EASY!!!! And I'm really curious to know if the orthotics make a difference if you go that route. I'm trying to decide what to do between today and Saturday's 5K since my shin is still a little sore, so I read your post with lots of sympathy!

Mel - I've firmly decided that I will not run unless the temp is 82 or below!

Krista - GREAT sock story! I would have left it too!

Cam - Great pictures. Look like you survived! Welcome back.

I'm pretending to run tonight - the mind wants to run, but the shin just refuses to agree, so I'm listening to the body. Guess maybe it will be the bike...

Jackie

Cam: THANK YOU for sharing pictures! Your daughter looked stunning in her prom gown. And congrats to her on graduating!!! What a wonderful weekend..you must be so proud!!

Krista: Glad Hines is ok...but my goodness...how funny that it came up right in the street lol. Don't blame you at all for not picking it up LOL.

Kristi: WTG on the detective work. Have to say that is creepy!!!!

Today I got out there and ran 4 miles in about 42 minutes. Tomorrow will be another day of KBX :). Two weeks before the big 5 Mile Trail run...a little nervous about that one but at least I'm running it with SIL...we've decided that we are clearly doing it for "fun". No pressure LOL! Besides...we were told there is a cool prize for the final finisher. So....we've got nothing to lose LOL!

Dave

Both Martha and Lesley are running in the full blown, expensive custom orthotics, and I suspect I'll be doing the same soon. Unfortunately unlike Colleen, our medical plan doesn't cover them, so it's all out of pocket. Ouch.

When I gulp at the cost I compare it to being unable to run, and that quickly ends the internal argument.

Good luck.

Craig

Hi Everyone  ,

Sorry I've been away for awhile. Today, I ran 3 miles on the Threadmill --- Didn't get to do it last night. I might have to go to the foot doctor, my foot still doesn't feel back to 100% .....I just don't feel like I have enough of support or something (although, it could be all in my head -- to be totally honest) that and I have the reoccurance of athelete's foot.....just not totally sure, when I will be able to get to the doctor.

Things have improved with FIL, he's home now - although had to go for a check up on Friday.

Guess what?, my hubby has gotten the bug --- he's all signed up for a 5k also. Although, his isn't until October. I might sign up for another at the end of the month (although, I orginally wanted to do the half marathon).

I still have to catch up on many of the posts from this week -- I will do my best :goodvibes

Have a great day tomorrow everyone!

Jodi

Cam-- great pics! Your family (including you) are gorgeous.

Craig--

Speedy-- I managed to cross the floor and pick up the RW and it was well worth the effort! I liked JB's report on Goofy. Imagine the pressure he felt to do the full when he felt so lousy. Yikes!

Lynn-- you are terrifying me!!! You've booked the first half of your marathon trip?????? OMG I am so behind....!!!!!!!

Feeling a little better today. Haven't resorted to Vicadan and its almost 11PM :woohoo:

Sunny

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

Thanks again everyone for the PD :wizard:, hugs :grouphug:, and support.

Yesterday, I went to the fitness center. I rode the recumbent bike for 20 min. My plan was to just get my muscles warmed up and then stretch. I figured stretching would be good for me right? My PT was saying one of the reasons I get the shin splints is because of tight calf muscles. So I figured I would just warm up, stretch, and that would be good. The bike riding was fine. Nothing like sitting in a recliner and exercising... I then limped over to where I was going to stretch. Did some wall pushes to stretch out my left calf, then tried to do the same on the right. It felt like someone was sticking a knife in my lower leg. Oooooh, it really hurt. I sat down to stretch out my hamstrings, and I noticed my right shin was really swollen. It was puffy, swollen, and sore. Uuugh, that must have happened from riding the bike. What the heck???

I bumped up my PT appointment. I was supposed to go next week, but instead I am seeing him today at 3:45p. I hope he can help.

Good morning team!! I'm posting, so I that means that I ran last night. Hines and I again did 30 minutes (he's a great training partner), we did 2.62 miles--so a little quicker than Monday. I think I'm going to continue to do 30 minutes 2/2 intervals for another week and then bump it up to more running less walking. Oh good news, I didn't wear my IT band last night and no knee pain!!  It was so hot last night and I was having to stop and adjust the band every couple of minutes. After about a mile, I finally just took the dumb thing off and carried it, I was prepared to stop if I felt ANY knee pain, I didn't need to stop. :thumbsup2 Oh, sock update: the sock was still there in the street, when we passed it, Hines tried to stop and sniff it, but I pulled his leash to get him away from the evidence. :rotfl:

Dave-- :grouphug: :wizard: :grouphug: good luck with your PT appointment!

Jodi--Yay that DH is catching the bug!! You just reminded me, I haven't planned out my summer 5K schedule yet. Good luck with your foot. Do you think maybe it's your shoes?

Carrie--I hear ya! It is SO hard to get motivated, especially because I know I don't HAVE to start training until the end of August. :teeth: So I think I'm just going to do 30 minute runs like 3 times a week and maybe 4-5 miles on the weekend, that's not too time consuming. By the way, I read the thread, so I keep up with everyone, I just don't post.

Tiff--You're going to WDW this weekend? Is there a green with envy smiley face somewhere? Stephen and I are headed to Washington DC for his sister's wedding on Friday. I'm excited, I haven't been to DC since I was 7, so I don't really remember much, but WDW definitely trumps DC any day! Good luck with VBS, I normally teach, so I know how hectic it's going to be.

Cam--Awesome pictures! Your daughter is beautiful, she looks just like you!

Minnie--You are going to LOVE the Beach Club!! I love the whole Epcot resort area, it's definitely my favorite corner of the world.

Craig--Glad to see you back!!

Kristi--How creepy!! I don't like when I see people in our neighborhood who I know don't belong there. Makes me thankful that Hines has a very big bark and isn't afraid to use it!

Sunny--I hope you continue to feel better! How are feeling today?

Lynne--Are you going GOOFY!!!! :dance3:

I'd love to stay and chat longer, but work calls. I doubt I'll run tonight, it's supposed to rain and I need to clean the house and start packing for DC, but regardless I'll check in and see how everyone is doing. 7 months from right this second (8:32 am), I'll be running my first full marathon!! :cheer2: :cheer2:

Speaking of RW....Got mine yesterday and they have a wonderful tri training plan in it. However, I don't know about getting clip on shoes until a person is more sure on the bike....

Dave - :wizard: :wizard: :grouphug: for your PT today.

Sunny - I just hate this for you! Glad you are feeling a little better. :grouphug:

Jodi - Glad to hear from you! :grouphug: to you too! WTG on the dreadmill running! :rotfl:

AmyBeth - You will do great on your trail run! Have fun! :Pinkbounc

Kristi - GIRL! You sound like me! I know I watch too much CSI! :happytv: I think everyone is trying to commit a crime. I am glad I sometimes run with CMPD members! :magnify: Also like you, I do like to run alone sometimes...but after 11+ miles, I start to get board b/c I normally don't listen to my IPOD. :rolleyes1

I whined and cried to Ron (the person who trained me for my 1st marathon and tri) and he invited me to join a group down town to run today! :Pinkbounc We started at 0600 and did 8 miles at about a 9 MPM. We started out at about a 8 mpm pace for the 1st few miles, but then (THANK GOD) traffic slowed us down. We would stop, go, stop, go, stop, go.... but IT WAS WONDERFUL! Whining does sometimes get you what you want! :lmao: :teeth:

Cool! :cool1:

Christa, 8mpm, you are doing so well! It is amazing how well running has come along over the years.

OK, Goofy is 90% full, it is killing me!!! I really don't know what to do. I wish I had a crystal ball to see into the future. To be honest, I don't know how important the Goofy medal is to me. Is a full marathon PR more important?? :confused3 I don't know. I know I would have no problem running/walking Goofy, or do I register for the full to better last year's marathon time? All you Goofy people from last year, what are your feelings now that you are finished? Was it worth it? I realize it is just a one time thing.

Colleen

Dave- REST your shins. That means no biking, no running, no walking. Rest, Ice, Compression, and Elevation (RICE). Here's PD that you heal quickly. :wizard:

Minnie- Woo Hoo on the BC! I am so glad that you were able to get what you wanted. You will truly have a magical vacation.

Krista- Love the sock story. Maybe you could sneak out there when no one is looking and pick it up with a plastic grocery sack. That way you wouldn't have to touch it. Doesn't Steven want his sock back? :lmao:

Cam- You look absolutely fantastic! You have such a beautiful family. I am glad that everything went well with prom, after prom, and graduation. Did I miss the news about college? Did DD get in to the school she wanted?

Welcome back from lurker status Craig! We missed you.

Jodi- I am glad that FIL is doing better. Good job getting in a workout.

Lynne- I am so glad that you decided to join us again in Jan. This is for you: :goofy:

As for me, today is my rest day. I did 30 minutes on the elliptical yesterday and then lifted weights. My shoulders are still a bit sore today. I am headed to the driving range later today. I have to play golf on Friday, and I do not want to embarrass myself.

Krista-- On behalf of all those who trained alone every single day for thier first full marathon last year, sometimes in blazing heat, sometimes in driving snow...... no, no we don't. :teeth: (Kidding, kidding)

Cam-- What great pictures!! Your daughter looks just like you! Congrats on graduation! :thumbsup2

Sunny-- Wait, Bingham did a goofy report?!? Hang on.... (Pulls RW out of the briefcase.... reading.... reading.....) Wow, that is going on the fridge during training time. :thumbsup2

Folks on the Fence-- According to the WDW Marathon website this morning, The full is 50% full, the half is 60% full and the Goofy is 90% full. Just FYI!

Yesterday evening I did manage my weightlifting/crosstraining workout with no problems. I was dead tired by the end of dinner last night, though. This new running in the morning and lifting in the afternoon thing is going to take some getting used to. This morning I have no idea how far I went, nor how fast. My Garmin was slow to catch a signal and I just did not feel like waiting around for it, so I took off doing whatever intervals I felt like. I probably went about 2 miles.... maybe 10 minute miles. :confused3 I was wrong yesterday... my five-miler is actually this weekend. I should really start looking at my training plan, LOL.

Happy training all!
Kevin (Solotraveler) :earsboy:

:moped: Drive-by...

just booked BCV for marathon weekend :cool1:

Just take the plunge!! I am NOT going Goofy this year but if we weren't bringing the kids this year, I wouldn't be totally opposed to doing it. Try for a PR in Chicago and then go Goofy

Cam - Loved, loved, loved the pics. You dd is just gorgeous. I hope the weekend was nothing but magical for your family. These are days...

Heather - So psyched to see you were able to snag the DL hotel for the 1/2.

Krista - Yeah for getting back in the swing of things. :rotfl2: about the sock still being in the street.

Dave - Boatloads of :wizard: for your PT appt. today.

Sunny - :grouphug: Thinking of you and definitely betting the guns are just NOT jello. As a longtime weightlifter, I completely understand...

Jodi
- Glad your FIL is improving and that your DH signed up for a 5k.

4 miles for me this morning on the treadmill. I am currently following Active's virtual trainer for the Marine Corps Marathon and I am enjoying it immensely.

Happy training to all :cheer2:

Colleen - If the PR/Goofy stuff is in question, you can just say "hey, goofy is my first ultra, so any time will be a PR!" I'm not going to do it again, but it is simply b/c I thought it was a really expensive 1/2 and the course was a little dissappointing (not to downplay it,, b/c it is still a great accomplishment) I just don't want to pay that much for a 1/2 instead of using that day to play inthe parks more. Also, I spent the afternoon after the 1/2 resting b/4 the full, so I felt like i was taking that whole day away from my family! that's just my 2cents. Good luck deciding. I can say that if i hadn't done it last yr., I would be doing it this yr!

Colleen

I am going for my 2nd Goofy. I am just looking to once again have a good time and enjoy the running through the parks. It was definitely worth it, which is why I am doing it again. For me, it is the feeling of accomplishment and the pride of knowing that I am one of the relatively few who were able to do a half and a full in consecutive days. In addition, my brother and my wife are both going Goofy this year, and I just couldn't let them have all the fun! :goodvibes I think they will need my support during the run. :cheer2:

I plan on using everything I learned from last year's Goofy and using it to help me this time around. Will my times improve (2:28 1/2 and 6:30ish full)? Probably, but that is not why I am going back. In my opinion, Disney is not the place to try and PR. There is just too much to see and so many people to interact with that a PR just is not my goal. Better times will only be the icing on the cake. Once again, the goal is simply to finish and have the energy to spend a few days in the parks afterward.

I say go Goofy! If you are not sure when race day comes, then you can always only do the full (only do a full...never thought I would hear myself say that!! :rotfl: ) You can always go from the Goofy to either the half or full, but you can't go the other way once the registration closes.

Paul
