Wk of Jun 4--2007 WISH Walking/Running Club

Hi Everyone,

Just a quick post here --- tonight I made it to the fitness center, another 3 miles on the threadmill :thumbsup2 not the best in the time catergory but I decided to take it a little bit more slowly and just enjoy (BTW - finished in 32.17 min).

Really excited that my DH is doing the 5k in October, we are hoping to train together this coming Saturday. I think I'm due for a new pair of running sneakers anytime now.....maybe I will see what else the running store has see if there is anything that makes me feel like I'm walking/running on clouds :goodvibes .

Still have to catch up on posts :guilty: Sorry, work has been hell this week

*hi* :lovestruc

I'm new. I'm a longtime lurker, first time poster. I think you guys are awesome and a great inspiration. I thought it was time for me to participate instead of just observing. I just signed up for the full 2007 marathon (have not told anyone else yet) and would like some company and support over the next coming months. I did the Minnie 15K and just got my certificate with a couple ads for Disney sports. One is for the Race for the Taste and includes a picture of the medal, which I'm totally psyched about. It looks like maybe a puffy chef's hat with a knife, fork, and spoon dangling off it. I thought it was silver at the Minnie expo but it looks like gold in the picture. If I can figure out how to post a picture I'll post it for y'all. Anyway, *hi* :goodvibes

Judy- What a great anniversary gift! Sure wish my MIL would get me a thoughtful gift like that. Do you think she has issues with your cat? :rotfl: Thank you so much for sharing that story. I laughed and laughed. I can always count on my WISH team to cheer me up. :goodvibes Happy Anniversary! I loved the wedding thread. :cheer2:

I worked all day and did not get to run. I guess I better get up and go to the gym tomorrow morning. I will try to squeeze a long run in this weekend before it gets too hot. It's supposed to be 96 this weekend. Yikes!

Lily- I am so happy that you signed up. You have to come, it would not be the same without you.

Gotta go put the DDs to bed.

Welcome Jenny! We really are a great group of athletes. ;) I am training for the full this year too. Keep posting and updating us on your progress. :Pinkbounc

:welcome: Jenny!

We head up your way fairly frequently these days...looking for some property in the area. What kind of training program are you planning for the full?

Good Morning TEAM: :surfweb:

My legs are starting to feel a little better. I don't walk with such a noticable limp anymore, and the pain is subsiding. I did 35 min on the elliptical yesterday, stretched, and iced. I felt OK. I definitely did not feel like I could do the treadmill though - so I didn't. Scheduled for more STIM today. Whoo hooo! :thumbsup2 My DW calls it my Frankenstein treatment.

Sunny- I've been thinking of you, and I hope your back pain is subsiding a little bit. Hang in there girl!

Judy- Thanks for the link to your wedding report. That was wonderful. I really enjoyed reading it, and you were such a beautiful bride. Oh, and your MIL is whacked!!! Happy Anniversary - thinking of your wedding reminds me of pets dying. Here's your present!!!

Hi Jodi :wave2:. Good to hear from you. We've missed your posts. I hope things are going OK with your FIL, home, and work.

Cam- Thanks for posting the pictures. You have a beautiful family, and must be so very proud of your daughter. Congratulations!

Jenny :welcome: It's great to have you here. Congratulations on signing up for the 2007 Marathon. Welcome to the TEAM!!! Everyone has been so supportive here. I wouldn't have been able to keep this up for nearly 6 months without the support I get here!

Heather- 96 degrees! Yikes. Take it easy in the heat!

Good Morning!

Welcome Jenny! Everyone here has been wonderful as I am sure you have read while lurking!! Way to go on signing up for the marathon.

Dave - Sorry to hear about your injury. Take it easy, you have come so far already and will get back there again. Don't push it. Take your time.

Judy - :rotfl2: On the other hand, at least she isn't trying to dump the contents of her basement in your house! We are getting that from both my MIL and my mom. What they don't seem to understand is that we have a family of 5 living in 1200 sq ft. Oh, as a cat lover please don't show your darling cat the grave marker - we wouldn't want to upset him! :rotfl2: :rotfl2:

Sunny - What can I say - my thoughts are with you. Hang in there!

Some day I will catch up with everyone.

My saga continues. PT now thinks the hip pain is due to sacrum isssue not hamstring. I don't really care what they call it, I just need it to go away. It seems like it is just getting worse not better. I have pretty much stopped walking. I am taking naprosyn for the pain/inflammation. The last time I went out, I walked a mile at a 24 min pace and was in terrible pain. I am very worried that this means I won't be doing the CDC this august. I hope with proper rest and PT that I will be ready to go for WDW in Jan.

I keep asking myself how I got to be 33 years old, 10 lbs overwieght and in too much pain to walk! I could deal with this better if it was just keeping me from running but WALKING too! :sad2:

Thanks to you all, I won't give up!

Good for you that you are determined not to give up Maggie. We're in this together. I won't give up if you won't. Your last couple sentences really got to me. As I've been wondering how I got to be 37, overweight, and having trouble running too. Running was always something that came so easy for me. I know how I got to be overweight, new job, new kids, no exercise, more couch time, that would do it. I guess you don't undo 8 years of sitting around in 6 months. Hang in there. We're with you!

Maggie - I battled this problem last year and it is still on going. I had been first diagnosed with a sacrum issue but after xrays and finally a specialist that did an MRI they found that I have a bulging disk in my lower back which causes the back/hip/sciatic pain. I sure hope they find a solution for you soon!!!!

Hey! Just a very quick post due to having to go to work. Work really gets in my way of fun! :goodvibes

Anywho...
Jenny - :welcome:

I just got back from a very hot but wonderful 10 mile run. I prayed for 1 person for each mile and the time just flew by....I got the idea in RW a few issues ago and it was also in this one. I really did not feel like I was pushing but did end up at right below a 9 MPM.
I hope all is well with everyone today. gotta go will catch up later!

Good morning and T.G.I.F! :jumping1:

Well, after two days of "tapering" :lmao: I got on the TM this morning, and in honor of my One Year of Wedded Bliss...and my cat's continued good health...I did 51 minutes @ 3.8 @ 1% with 6 of those minutes running @ 4.5! Six minutes! I ran for six minutes! I could have gone longer but my knee was starting in with "Pssst! What the he** do you think you're doing???" So when I was done I iced them while I watched Kenny Chesney on GMA. But can you believe I ran for six minutes straight??? Geez, I can't.

Minnie - I am touched that you, a fellow equestrienne, was the first to respond to my wedding thread. :goodvibes

Sara - Thank you! I got teary eyes just writing it! :bride:

Jen - I loved the cake topper! I have it on a shelf with all my other wedding keepsakes. :lovestruc

Oh Mel - OUCH! Can you stretch it out? Ohh that sounds so painful. I hope changing shoes works. :wizard: Someday we will do a vow renewal at WDW. Maybe at the WL again. I just can't get enough of that place!

Christa - Is my MIL a Piece Of Work or what?!?!?!?!?! :rolleyes2 What a sweet sweet girl you are, praying for one person per mile. And may I just say, I am WAY impressed with your speed. :worship:

Jenny - Hi and welcome! :welcome: If you want company and support this is THE place to get it! We also offer the occasional entertainment, pity partys and commiseration on injuries, race reports, and hints and tips.

Heather - Gee, if your MIL doesn't give you "thoughtful" gifts like mine, I'll be glad to send her right over to you. You can have her. Please.

Dave - Ohh glad to hear the legs are feeling better. :thumbsup2 The Frankenstein Treatment works! Yay! Interesting thing I read this morning.....too much time on an elliptical can cause pain in the legs, due to constant compression on the nerves in the foot. It's not like a stair stepper machine or walking/running where you pick your foot up. Hmmmm...I don't know if that applies at all and also they didn't define "too much time", but it's something to think about. Maybe ask your PT what he thinks. Oh and thanks for your comments about my pictures. Yeah, ain't my MIL something? You made me laugh with your comments! :teeth:

Maggie - Oh you poor thing! I hope this gets resolved. I feel badly for you. :wizard: You guys in your 30's are killing me! Just you wait until you hit 45! Trust me! :rolleyes1

Hello and "we miss you" to Cam and Howard! :wave2:

We're off to Dutch Springs, PA :drive: so my husband can dive and I can have some R&R. I can't wait!

OK, Ok, back to work. :surfweb:

TGIF!!! Been quite a week! Not much time, but wanted to get a last reminder to get those shirt orders in tomorrow!
Have a great weekend!

I ran with my group last night and today my legs ache. They run faster than I am used to, so it is a hard time. But I keep at it hoping to gain some speed and endurance.

I decided to sign up for a 5K on July 2, it's a Firecracker Run. Then since I am in my running group, I am automatically signed up for a run on Sept. 9. I may try the 10k in prep for the 1/2 marathon. I am also thinking of signing up for a 10K on Oct. 28. They are doing a 1/2 marathon that day also, but you have to finish in under 3 hours. The awards ceremony is 2 1/2 hours after the start of the race and the course will close 3 hours after. I am not sure if I will be ready at that point to push it, so I think the 10K is a better option and let the WDW 1/2 be my virgin 1/2 Marathon Run!!!!

Also, I have lost 14 pounds since starting this running gig and am very excited about that. This week I pulled out my WW stuff and am doing that on my own to lose more. First goal is to get back to my Pre-pregnancy weight before my FIRST child. Then I want to lose an additional 20.

Happy Running this weekend!!!!

Hey everyone! I've been trying to keep up with all the threads, but our group has gotten so big - Yea!!! I haven't posted much since the triathlon. I've been dealing with health stuff - nothing major, just changing doctors/meds/etc. My body is not very fond of change apparently... :crazy2: but I am starting to feel human again. Yea! I've just been walking, swimming, and biking, but not really on a training plan. Time to get back in gear! ;)

I don't know if this has already been posted, but for anyone interested, Disney is doing an Aquathlon on Sept. 23. It is all in Ft. Wilderness - 2 mile run, 400 yd swim, 2 mile run. This is only 4 days after we get back from CA, but I am seriously trying to figure out how to add this to the schedule! :rolleyes1 Anyone want to join me??? :thumbsup2

DH is doing great with his running. He is right on schedule for his DL and Goofy training. We can't wait to see many of you soon!!!

I will definitely try to de-lurk and check in more. I need your accountability to get going again! Lots of PD for all the injuries! And congrats to so many of our racers! Keep up the great work everyone!!! :cool1:

Hi, guys! Just a quick hello! We are back from special olympics for the night -- much earlier than any of the past 10+ years. YEAH! Just laundering clothes because we have to wear our official shirts again tomorrow, so I'm still up (so that Howard isnt waiting alone for the washer  ) (yes, he does all the laundry. Am I spoiled rotten, or what? ;) )
So do you think driving half an hour and being on my feet from 6:30 a.m. to 10:15 pm literally every single minute (except 5 mins to eat dinner and and 40 minutes at opening ceremonies) and then driving 1/2 hour home counts as cross training? My legs think I just did a 1/2 marathon or a minnie or something! :cool1:

I left the house before 6, Howard and Andy around 7, and Jenn shortly thereafter (yes, she drove down there by herself for the first time-- I was worried sick but proud of her confidence and courage). I know she was excited to be at "her university" so soon after high school graduation, doing something she is wonderful at and passionate about. What an awesome day! Can't wait to get back tomorrow (after I take some aleve, of course! :) )

So glad to see we have another new team member. :welcome: Jenny!

Christa -- what a sweetie you are to spend your running time praying. I can't think of a better multi-task set. How much more wonderful could you be? Maxed, kiddo, maxxed!

Judy -- LOVED the story and the pix. CANNOT wait to meet you and Charlie. :grouphug:

Minnie and others still battling ailments -- I admire you even more for still fighting through and being here. How many people would use the aches and pains as justification to cop out. Instead, you all look at it as something to work through. It makes us stronger, doesn't it? You aren't just people trying to do athletic stuff. Instead you are athletes who are dealing with health issues to get back to training. Kudos, guys!

Wow, thanks for all the welcomes!

Mel - I'm planning on using Galloway's training plan. It seems pretty manageable with the low mileage runs during the week. It's funny, I actually get down to your neck of the woods pretty often too because my parents live in Osprey. As for Gainesville, it's a great town to live in or even just to purchase land for an investment. The town is definitely "growing up" a little bit but it's still a cute college town.

Is anyone in the Jacksonville, FL area doing the Run for the Pies on June 17th? If you break a certain time you get a pie (20min for men, 24min for women). I've been thinking about it but it's kind of a drive for a 5K, plus we're in the process of moving so it's during a hectic time. But... FREE PIE, people! I think I'm too slow to win a pie though :(

Oh wow, FREE PIE!!! All we get here in Wisconsin are T-Shirts, if you are lucky!!!! I don't think I could run a 5K in 24 minutes tho, unless I got super woman powers!!

WELCOME JENNY, from one to another (I'm Jen!)

Jenny :welcome: This group is great for motivation!

Dave - Great news on your progress. Hope it continues!

Maggie - 33 is nothing. Wait till you hit 43 and wonder where all the aches and pains come from... I just keep telling myself that starting to run will make me feel younger, but most days I don't feel all that young!

Ran the Race for the Cure 5K this morning. Finished in 37:16, which is 1:29 better than the Minnie! The first half mile both shins were aching and cramping, and I thought "oh no," but I just kept talking myself through it and reminding myself that half the people on the WISH were struggling too, and finally the pain went away. So thanks guys for being there, even if just in my head!

Just back from the xterra. EC won womens overall. I'm pretty sure i came in last in my age group but made the bike cutoff no prob. The run took a lot longer than expected. I'll post race report tomorrow!
