Wk of Apr 8--WISH Walking/Running Club

Martha - Great timing on your run! To answer your question about snow, yes we've gotten well over a foot since Monday and it's not suppose to end til Saturday. The mountain closes on the 15th, so the snow can stop anytime now. lol

Leana - Wow, you're doing great with your workouts....I love going to organized fitness classes.

Christa - I agree w/you $65. is expensive for 8 miles, but what can you do, it's Disney. By the way what is "the stick"?

Beddiz - Welcome:flower3:

Matt - 89 miles in one week??? Man, that's great!

Stephanie - Have fun on vacation...lay out in the sun for me.:3dglasses

Jimmduck - Welcome:flower3:

Mel - Are we sticking with Pop for dinner, or trying another location?

Carrie - Glad to hear you are pain free:grouphug:

My training is going good although my tm is acting up again:mad: I'm going to use it til it blows! ha,ha. Anyhoot, I'm walking every other day and taking muscle madness @ work. I've been wanting to try a spinning class, but I'm afraid it maybe too hard for me, ,plus those seats are killers on the backend.

Hey all. Not much new to report. It is starting to snow here, so I am really bummed. I did a little balance ball work in front of the TV last night and tonight I will run the indoor track while DD6 has gymnastics.

Claire - During the 1/2, there were bananas as your exited MK, I think that is around mile 6. The Cliff Shots were around mile 10, on the highway just before you go up the on-ramp.

Carrie - YAH on no pain. I have pain on my right foot on the rear part of the arch. It comes and goes and I can't figure out what is causing it. It started about a month ago, on and off. Hmmm..

Mel - We are thinking of heading to WDW on 8/18 for a week. Right before school starts. I worry about hurricanes, but I figure I can take my chances. Stuck at WDW can't be that bad. We are thinking of trying POP for the first time.

OK, gotta get to work. Things are very stressful here, which makes it no fun at all.

Jen - Oh no! That does nto sound good. It sounds like PF to me, but I'm not a doctor. There's a lot online about it, you may want to look. Thanks for warning me that the snow's coming. :( We're supposed to get 1 to 4".

monica - Grrr..I hope your TM starts behaving!

MOre good news. I do have one leg longer than the other. Doesn't sound liek good news, but it could be causing my current issues adn it coudl cause teh late fall hip issues I get every year. So, it'd be nice to fix that!
The Dr.'s office is supposed to be setting me up with an osteo manipulaor? :scared: Anyone else been there?

ooo ooo memory i think....were there clif bars in there somewhere??? THanks for those of yall with better memories than me!

Leana--How bad is Sanjaya going to be tonight?

Last night was terrible...so boring...I can't believe they finally had something negative to say to Melinda and Lakisha. I really did like Blake's performance though. I'm surprised that Simon didn't tell Sanjaya that his performance was cabaret because it seemed so "lounge act in Vegas" to me. I'm betting Haley, Phil and Chris for the bottom three (although I didn't think Chris was that bad).

My trip yesterday afternoon was cancelled so I was able to get a workout done in the evening. Did 50 minutes of total body weights with a few cardio moves thrown in here and there. I'm sticking with my "Firm" series of workout videos for my XT days. I feel like they give me a pretty good workout. Today is supposed to be another XT day so I'll probably go for some aerobics. Really need to do some ab work too.

Carrie - Glad you have figured out a source for your problem. My right knee used to bother me as a kid and my dr at the time said that one of my legs was longer than the other. Never did anything about it though and over time my knee stopped bothering me (knock on wood). Thanks for the stretches by the way!
Jen - Yikes, hope your foot feels better soon.
monte - I haven't tried spinning but I hear it is a great workout.
Mel - Glad your foot is feeling better. A Monday breakfast meet up sounds great. I want to try and hit Chef Mickey's for their breakfast to get pictures with the characters and my medal. Me and probably thousands of other people!
Howard - Good luck with studying!
TxAng - Those shirts at Target are a great deal. I picked up a few in SA last month. I miss Target....unfortunately we don't have them up here.

OK, I must get some work done....

OK let's not even discuss this morning's XT.

Next.

Minnie - Prior to this "racing thing" we've gotten involved in...we ALWAYS went in September. It's a fabulous time to go! :thumbsup2 We usually walk right on attractions. The weather was always so pleasant. Once, though, we were there between hurricanes....I think it was in 2005. As bad as we felt for the residents - We saw a LOT of damage - We practically had the parks to ourselves!

Terri - Oh I was hoping you would autograph my CD! Can you believe...we haven't even had a chance to watch it yet??? UGH!

Oh! Oh! I think that was Howard I just saw! :yay:

Mel - Even though this year's PC Meet was my first ever WISH meet, I thought it was a great. I vote for PC again in '08. :)

Bill - OK, who's screaming at you? :upsidedow How nice of the officer to ask you if you needed a ride.

Jen - Can you believe this? More )*!%@# snow!!:headache:

Martha - HA! Sounds like I should be delivering mail! :rotfl:

Dave - We miss you.

Jen

That absolutely sounds like plantar fasciatis coming. Is the pain at the back of your arch where the bundle of tendons attaches to the bottom of your heel? If, yes then welcome to the club (we even have jackets).

On page 2 of this weeks thread is some information from Jackie, and my comments to her on how I beat PF. I'd encourage you to look at them and do some reading about it. Basically your tendons flex at every stride, and for some people, most with high arches and rigid feet, the tendons get sore and inflamed in the bundle under the ball and heel. Supportive and cushioning shoes, supportive inserts, ice, and advil got it under control for me years ago when I was much younger. Now I run, bike, and lift, never running more than 3 times a week, and PF hasn't bothered me in years. Good luck.

Carrie

Good for you getting healthy. 10 miles is impressive given your pain and tightness. We are counting on you on May 6.

For all inquiring minds, Lesley is doing very well after her foot surgery, but for me it's like having a middle schooler again. She isn't allowed to drive, so I'm taking here EVERYWHERE. The surgeon ordered her to stay on crutches for 11 days after until he saw her again, but in recovery she was doing really well and the recovery nurse whispered to me, "she'll be off the crutches tomorrow." Wrong, she was off them that evening. I have a cane from my many past leg injuries, and she gladly exchanged the crutches for the cane that night. She is allowed to put pressure on the heel only, so she can get around with the cane. Her comment was, "I feel like Martin Crane in Frasier, all I need is a Jack Russell terrier following me around."

I got my certificate and cd-rom and it brought back really bad memories. Seeing the weather on marathon sunday, including the scenes at the Magic Kingdom when you couldn't see the castle through the fog when it was only 100 meters away, reinforced just how horrible the weather was that day. Easily the worst conditions I ever raced in, and easily the worst race result ever. I mean, I've broken down before in the heat, but come on, breaking down when I only had 15 miles to go? Positive waves for 45 degrees and dry on January 13, 2008. And hopefully not too brutal at 9 p.m. on Saturday, October 27, 2007.

I lifted and biked hard yesterday, and am feeling pretty good and injury free.

Take care

Craig

10 miles is impressive given your pain and tightness. We are counting on you on May 6.
Actually, 10 miles is Splanned fro Saturday. I "only" did 60 minutes last night. GOod enough fo rme , though. It helps that the pain came and went so I know that it will get better if I wait it out now. Plus, knowing there were no repercussions this am is great. Ugh, the May 6 pressure. ;) Still by no means unattainable, but I can't even think speed until next week. BTW, I love that you are going fro distance and speed now. IIRC, you always got injured when you wanted to do more than a half before. I'm so glad you've found a good balance.

Leana - I hope the one leg longer thing never does catch up to you!

Craig - Thanks for your info. I guess I should have it looked at. It started a month ago and I never had any problem before this. I wear a good shoe, so that's not it.

Is it recommended to go to a podiatrist? Or should I try the running store first. I know there are over the counter orthotics you can get. My worry with orthotics is... will they rub more and cause more risk for blisters? I really don't want that.

The pain goes away after a day rest and doesn't hurt really while I am running. Just for the day after. And like I said, no problems when I was training for the WDW 1/2. I am befuddled. The pain is not so severe that I can't live through it, it's more annoying than anything.

Jeanne--- I did all 14 miles on the TM and my body has not fully recovered. It was cold and windy and need to do my LW so I just keep going and going. I did the first 10 miles at 4.1 pace and then 10-13.5 at 4.2 but the last 1/2 mile I just walked at 3.5 for a cool down. I felt pretty confident after I completed that walk that I should be good to go at Allentown. My L hip has bothered me even since not sure what that is about. I think trying to maintain my balance for that long may have had some effect on the hip. I am going to try for 4 miles tonight. We are scheduled to be at WDW 10/17-26, but am looking to maybe extend it for a couple of day or not come down until the 21st when Erik and his GF are coming down and then stay until 10/30. I borrowed the DVC points so I have to use them. Which child didn't make it home for Easter?

Martha--- So you plan to do the ToT. Where will you be staying at?

Pixie dust to all those with aches and pains.

Nancy

Hi, everyone!
Craig - Thanks for letting us know how Lesley is doing. She is a trooper, isn't she?

Speaking of troopers, Martha, I have been meaning to tell you how much pleasure I get every time I see your siggie. I remember on January 6 you weren't sure you could do a 15k after your hip problems. To see how far you have come and the amazing times and distances you are posting is just so exciting! Good for you! :woohoo:

Nancy -- I am sorry you had some hip pain after your LW on the TM. I am convinced that the TM is hard on our bodies because it is relentless. All that being said, I highly recommend Aleve! ;) Take it from one who has suffered achilles tendonitis, inflamed sacroiliac joint, and severe hip pain. Sending you :goodvibes: and pixiedust: for your next LW to be pain-free!

Jen -- so sorry you are dealing with PF. That is definitely not unheard of here. I think Mel has had some good results using inserts. She'll be able to tell you better what she has learned through the process. Do you wear heels for work? My podiatrist said that actually contributes to PF and heel spurs because that tendon (?) shortens (contracts?) in heels. When I was having bad heel & tendon pain, I bought a foot wheel (I think LisaLovesPooh made the recommendation) and whenever I could I'd use it under my desk to help the bottoms of my feet. Good luck!

Hey all! It is cool and rainy today!
Just a real quick post as I have a client soon......
got in a QUICK stationary bike ride (like 6 miles:lmao: ) and 150 sit ups....not much, but it is all I had time for btwn clients.

Nancy, you ran 14 miles on the dreadmill! The most I have ever done was 10...you are DA WOMAN! I hate the dreadmill and it hurts me more than road running.

Jen - The people I know who has had PF says that it really hurts in the morning and at the beginning of the run. Once it "warms up, or gets streched out it doesn't hurt. Until the run ends then it does.

I know I missed so many, but work calls!

Nancy - The stretches I got for my piri formis are for hips, too. I've battled my hips a lot. If you pm me your e-mail address or just e-mail wtpclc@sbcglobal.net, I'd be glad to share the stretches I have.

Grrrr....what is it with docs? I have an appointment to address teh leg length issue on May 15. WTH? Oh well, probably best not to start messing with too much so close to the Minnie. I have PT again tomorrow and I can see if there's anything else they recommend.

Jen - I'm going to the podiatrist tomorrow morning to discuss my PF issues. I'll let you know what he says! I've been using Craig's advice - icing, stretching, etc, but the pain is getting worse and more frequent, and I haven't been running at all. I'm getting worried enough that I decided to get professional advice before I do something stupid and cause long-term damage. I haven't registered for the half yet - was planning on doing it this week, but want to make sure I can run before I spend the money!

Christa - Completely :offtopic: Is your JRT a cuddly dog? DH is becoming obsessed with the idea of a JRT as our next dog, but DD and I are determined that the next one will cuddle. As much as I love Mystic, she does NOT cuddle!

Minnie - We've been once in September, and LOVE it then! The weather is great, but the crowds are non-existent. (Of course, we went before they started offering free dining). If DD were still in year-round school, we'd be there every September.

Carrie - Hooray for no pain! Hope the improvement continues. Between all our doctor and PT visits, maybe someone can set up a WISH discount for the medical community?

Most of my news is above in my comments to Jen. I keep trying to get up and use the bike, but the motivation isn't quite the same. Maybe tomorrow? DD leaves for her band trip and will be gone until Sunday, so I'll have a little extra time. I hate to lose all the momentum I've gained. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that the doc tomorrow doesn't give me really bad news... I just want him to tell me it's okay for me to keep running!

Jackie

Gatorphipps----Worse than running, I walked it for 14 miles. My only life saver is that I am able to read while I walk so was able to finish the good book that I was reading.

I sent you an email. Good luck with the PT.

I had terrible PF issues in the past and had to have mutiple cortisone injections to resolve the issue as all the conservative treatments didn't work. Also had the heel spur which they were thinking of shock blasting it off (sort of like they do with kidney stones), but eventually with inserts they resolved. Being a nurse I was on my feet all day and would be in tears with pain by the end of my shift. I feel your pain.

Cam-- I have never had much luck with Aleve for some reason. I'm an Advil girl. Just wonder if someday I will have a bleeding ulcer or kidney damage from all the Advil I have consumered. I used to rotate between Tylenol X strength and Advil to even out the liver and kidney damage, but now just do Advil.

Tonight did the 45 minute stretch class at the gym and that seemed to help me make it through 4.5 miles on the TM. By Friday it is to be nicer and hopefully can get to walking back outside.

Time to get dinner on the table.

Nancy

Good evening everyone!

Tonight was XT on the power rack.

Pushups - 1 x 25, Diamond pushups 1 x 8
Crunches - 2 x 50
Pullups - Static holds x 2
Knee Raises - 2 x 12
Chinups - Static holds x 2
Dips - 2 x 2
Burpees - 1 x 6

Did the first circuit nonstop (and felt it). The second circuit was a bit more relaxed. Ended the session with a set of burpees.

Hope everyone is doing well. Keep up the great training!

:)

Just got home from work! Wed are so long.

Christa - Completely :offtopic: Is your JRT a cuddly dog? DH is becoming obsessed with the idea of a JRT as our next dog, but DD and I are determined that the next one will cuddle. As much as I love Mystic, she does NOT cuddle!
Jackie

Jackie, Zoe, our JRT is cuddly. Is Mystic a JRT? Ours is a girl that has been fixed. She really LOVES:love: me b/c I take her running so she is most cuddly with me. The princess: princess: , not so much. She puts up with them, but that is it...I let her sleep in the bed with me and she sleeps right up on me.

AHHHH! It is thundering so I gotta get off.....JRT is going crazy!:scared:

Hello again!
I'm finally back. I came down with a flu/cold thing last week and unfortunately yesterday was the first day I actually felt better. It was an awful feeling not being able to do my LR this weekend and to miss all the other runs I had scheduled but I knew if I pushed myself too much it would just take longer to recover. Still, I felt fat and lazy all week. Yesterday I got back on track thought and did 6 miles on the TM in 61:00. I think in a way the illness was a hidden blessing because I REALLY missed running during the week I was out of commission. It finally stopped raining (1st sunny day in a week) today so I'm hoping to do my 4 miler outside. The treadmill is getting old but we are in our rainy season now so I think I'm gonna have to get used to it.
Kristin

Coco: welcome back to training mode! Hope to hear good things re: training soon

Claire: EXCELLENT job! :thumbsup2

Angie: rest hard so you can play hard!!

Vic (Fabio): still waiting on those pictures ;)

Minnie: depends on what you are looking for. The weather will still be hot but during the week the crowds might be a bit smaller as kids are back in school. Personally, I'd wait until October but I'm single-handedly trying to get as many people to the ToT run as possible!!! :lmao:

Howard!!! Great to see you poke your head out!!! I totally understand the study thing and hope you take a break soon. The semester will be over before you know it and you can spend some very much deserved time with your excellent family!!!

Mel: hope things go well with Kaley!!!

Carrie: woo-hoo for a pain free morning!!! Wait, I'm confused. Do you have the leg longer than the other or does Judy?

Monica: I hope things quiet down once the mountain "closes."

Jen: when you do the balance ball, do you use a DVD or something on TV? If you can find one, I'd recommend a sports podiatrist over a regular podiatrist.

Leana: have fun with the weight workout!!!

Nancy: we are staying at the Swan in October. Craig, DH, being in academics, can get a discount there. Plus they have the "heavenly bedding" which beats anything hands down. I purchased the "heavenly" sheets from Nordstrom and I gotta say they are amazing!!!

Cam: Thanks!! I do take time to think about what I'm going to put for my siggie each week. I, too, am pleased with how my hip is doing. I would NEVER have thought I could do this last fall!!!!

Vic: geeze--slow down!! Where's the fire? :lmao:

Kristin: glad you're feeling better. Fat and lazy? I think we have different definitions of that! :rotfl:

Today was an off day for me. Tomorrow morning, early, i.e. 6:15 am, I'm with my trainer. She'll kick my butt but gud!!

Have a great evening everyone!!!

Kristin - welcome back. so glad you are feeling better.

Vic -- Are we even going to recognize Mr. Stud at the next WISH meet? THat is some workout! :woohoo:

Couldn't get near a TM tonight. Did the elliptical instead for 30 minutes to Broadway Disney music. "He Lives in You" just rocks!
I also made it a point to listen to Seal's "Crazy" -- "In a world full of people only some want to fly -- Isn't that crazy?" Thanks to whoever pointed this line out. My memory is so bad. Krista -- was it you?
Anyway  -- 30 minutes elliptical -- 2.7 miles -- 310 calories according to the elliptical (sparkpeople says 430! YOWZA!). I went with the 310. ;)
