Will my kids be bored?

I have a 13 and a 16 year old. We were at Disney last month for 10 days for our 2nd trip and they were not bored! We still haven't seen and done everything that we want to do and they were really sad when we had to leave. Before we left Disney, they were already asking to go back again in a few years. They have no desire to go to Universal.

I vote for splitting up too. Universal is pretty awesome. I did not have boys, but judging from my daughter's friends at that age, they would not have been into the card games/quests. Maybe a few years younger? It really depends on the kids though. Universal appeals to teens more so than Disney, unless they were raised going to Disney every year. Universal also has more thrilling coasters, plus Reign of Kong is opening. Look at info on Universal, it might be something the whole family would enjoy. We wouldn't go to Disney if we didn't plan at least a few days at Universal (this trip 2 days). I agree you won't be able to see everything. We skip the shows at Disney (and Universal for that matter). Once was enough for those. If you want to avoid boredom, don't make your sons sit through the shows.

I have never heard of anyone being bored at Disney not young or old. There is so much to do that you will not get it all done in one week.

I agree, I would never be bored, my daughter would never be bored, but I know a lot of people who do not like it, my ex for one. He hated every minute spent there. But he did like Universal (FOTL for onsite guests sold him). In fact, half of the men I talk to Disney with, don't like it. It all depends on the individual. But 13 year old boys, just in my opinion, are at the ripe age of possibly getting bored. It is hard for the people like us who love it to understand, but they do exist.

My 13 year old really loved Disney. He was familiar with all the characters. Give it a try.

My 3 kids have never been bored.

And my school recently sent 500+ Seniors to WDW for their Senior Trip. The kids planned and saved and anticipated for 4 long years. They had the time of their lives, as they always do. My husband's high school had the same experience with their 400 boys.

I wouldn't anticipate any issues.

My DH is now bored with WDW and my oldest DD is really looking forward to try bigger thrill rides as soon as she hits the height limits at IOA.

You are on a Disney forum with mostly ultra fans on the boards so of course they will say no way we get bored! If you asked people in the general population that have been to WDW once or twice the answer might be different.

Personally I would go to all 4 parks as a family then send the boys with your DH at IOA one day while you go to MK with your daughter.

It is ok if your husband and sons prefer thrill rides and super heroes. You won't have to shun half your family if they want to spend a day or two at Universal. Ask your husband point blank if he would like to spend a day or two at Universal with your sons. If he does, you can take your young daughter and do all the Princess stuff with her while the boys enjoy a fun day of thrills with Dad.

I promise you they'll be able to get back into the resort at the end of the day and Disney will still let them in the parks the next day. ;)

We have 2 sons, 13 and 9 and a 4 year old daughter. My husband thinks my sons will be bored with just Disney and wants to head to Universal for a day or 2.
Im generally opposed to planning seperate vacations for different members of the same family. The risk of planning a concession trip to Universal Studios too soon is it reduces the incentive to find fun things at Disney for everyone. But try to determine what your 3 boys are hoping to find at Universal. Thrill rides? They'll find maybe 2 or three there that are worthy of that title. Does your name signify that you come from Ohio? If so, how about a pre-Disney trip to cedar point or kings island.

If they are huge Harry Potter fans it might make sense to peel off for a day but to see all of the Wizarding world you have to buy access to both universal parks. But now your talking $150 per person for that 1 day instead of the $60 or less for the same day at Disney. Take the difference and go rent jet boats or go para-sailing at Disney Springs after a short day at animal kingdom maybe.

I'm not opposed to doing a day outside wdw parks, but for the money I found universal to be a horrible value. A trip to the space center or to wet n wild would be much better.

Just my experience if course.

I went to Disney for the first time when I was almost 13, and I can't imagine getting bored there, especially on the first trip! If you were to start making more frequent trips, then yes maybe throw in US for the boys, but otherwise, I think it would be too much.

If kids are bored at WDW, I am not sure what would excite them.....

That being said, the 13 year old might like Universal a lot. It does skew a bit older because of all the thrill rides, and I do think that if WDW has a dead spot in terms of the type of rides it offers, it might be teens. But it depends on the kid. My daughter is going to be 14 on our next trip, and she is looking forward to both WDW and Universal.
