 Hi I have never rented or transfered points before and have found that I need to for my March Vacation. Does anyone have any hints on who to trust and how to do this? thanks for the help.

If you're looking for someone on the Disboards, I'd start with someone with a high post count (someone who has been around here for a while).

Ask for references and check-out a couple of them. Just make contact and make sure the transaction went OK.

It wouldn't hurt to call the person on the phone either, rather than just relying on email contact.

I agree with tjkraz but would also add that you should read the person's past posts and get a feel for him/her and his/her knowledge of DVC.

Don't be surprised if you ask for references and don't get them. I have rented to people but have never asked them to be references for me and quite honestly I really never wanted to bother them with that. But if you read my past posts you would see who those people were and how things went.

Good luck. I have rented to others and have rented from others and it has always gone well.

I know just how you feel! Last year in Oct we stayed at OKW in a 2 BR villa & a studio with rented points. I was very nervous about it & worked with a wonderful member who I don't know at all, but who did a great job working with us. We didn't have any problems at all, & even our special needs were met. Plus, she told them about my MIL birthday & she received a balloon bouquet with a signed picture of Snow white! I wouldn't hesitate to rent again, but definetly check out the member first. Look at how long they have been on the boards, not just # of posts. I am amazed that there are people who have only been on the boards for a few months, but have hundreds & hundreds of posts! My fingers get too sore for that,:)

good luck

most members who also post on this site - really want you to be happy....

plus you have a place to come to and complaint if the DVC member cancelled your reservation or anything like that.

You know I never thought about telling MS when my renters were celebrating a birthday - thanks for the great advice.

Other tangible ways to gain info is to check the status of there EBAY accounts(assuming they have one). You could even arrange it to put the points for rent on EBAY with a buy it now, then pay through Paypal. Not perfect, but might give you even more piece of mind.

You might also get a written contract signed as well to help protect yourself.

There are also escrow services that can be used(money isn't sent to the owner until after the reservation date is used), if you are spending $2000 or more, I'd consider it.
