Where did this heat and all these people come from? The new PTR/TR link 5/7

following you from Memom and Wigd's reports...

I'll probably mostly lurk here too...LOL!... But I'm excited to hear about dealing with this heat before we go on our adventure too!

Hi, I'm joining!

I'm kind of new to trip reports, but since I just got back May 11 from my Disneymoon, I love reading everyone's TR's from the time I was there! It was HOT and CROWDED!!! 2 things I did not expect! Can't wait to read more! I'm going to start my own TR soon, hopefully in a few days I hope some people will read it! :rotfl:

Okay, I was sooooo behind that I missed your going away till I saw the pictures on Facebook... :headache: However, now that my class from h e double hockey sticks is over and I'm on break, I'm joining in  Can't wait to hear about it!

Holy Crap Katie - That is a lot of pictures! And I don't remember you taking one picture at the AK. Did your hand get tired????? I bet you took half those pictures in the ditch! :lmao: Kidding...I can't wait to see what you got!

Actually I took A LOT of pictures before I met up with you at AK but you are right, I don't have many from our time together!

Hi Katie, thanks for sharing your trip report with us, I will be following it. :thumbsup2

Welcome! glad to have you along!! :thumbsup2

Katie-I am here, and I can't believe I'm already on page 3---WOW-you got a lot of attention fast!

I'm sorry the heat and crowds were not what you had planned for; not to mention those nasty blisters! But you seem like you have such a good attitude toward life, so I'm sure you worked through it all! :thumbsup2

BTW---as someone who had to take a Flat Stanley to Disney one year, I think it is so funny that you have a Flat Beth! :lmao: I can't wait to see what sort of adventures she gets into!

I figure life is much nicer if you focus on the good so I TRY not to let the negatives get me down!

I wish Flat Beth had come out more on attractions! I tended to think of her when I was sitting which means I have lots of pictures of her eating and drinking :rotfl:

Joining in! Sorry about the heat/crowds!!

it was definitely not what I expected! But I had a great trip anyways!! Happy to have you here! :goodvibes

Joining in!

Thanks for coming along on this ride with me :flower3:

I saw yesterday it has cooled down into the 80's again so maybe you will luck out with the heat! Try to say hi occasionally OK!

I'm in!!!!!!!

Oh yea I sign my papers on May 25 to become a disney employee :smickey:

:yay: YAY!!! I wondered how your second visit had gone!! Do you know where you will be assigned yet?

Day 1, Saturday May 1

I had finished my pre-trip jobs the night before which left me just the basics for Saturday morning (packing final toiletries, last minute house chores, etc). Of course I had lots of excitement which made getting up and finishing the jobs easy!! We left home about 8:30 which was when I had said I wanted to leave. Greg then decided he needed to stop at the gas station for drinks then swing by a garage sale for…well, I really have no clue! Luckily whatever he had seen in their ad wasn’t there or not something he wanted I guess because he was back in the car in mere minutes.

Finally he turned the car toward Des Moines and we were off! The trip was easy as usual and we arrived in plenty of time to check in and of course visit the gift shop (for some reason, the kids HAD to stop here). The boys were starting to say they were hungry so Greg used breakfast as a reason to leave. After quite a few hugs and kisses, and a few tears, we said goodbye. I breezed through security, grabbed a couple bottles of Diet Pepsi (those of you who followed my PTR know how critical this step was!!) and a bad cup of coffee and headed toward my gate.

By now it was about 10:30 and my flight was scheduled to take off at 11:05. Like lots of small airports, they basically run a flight from MCO to DSM, refuel and turn around and fly back. Well, at 10:45, there was still no sign of the incoming flight…I knew we would not be departing on time!

I sat and chatted with the people around me and met my new friend Corry

florida2010002.jpg

It’s easy to see why I picked him to chat with…he was headed to our happy place too and very excited! Turns out he and his parents sat across the aisle from me on the plane and they were also on the same flights coming home so I spent a lot of time talking with him. It was fun being entertained by someone else’s kid for a change!

Finally this sight appeared

florida2010001.jpg

And the passengers started to get off. This next part I found odd…these guys started to come off the plane

florida2010005.jpg

This is the least blurry of the pictures so maybe you can’t tell but the plane was full of the Iowa Barnstormers players (our semi-pro football team) First, I was surprised they have to fly a public plane (even our college teams fly private) and second, I wondered HOW these guys fit into those tiny seats!!

Regardless, we were soon loaded on the plane (about 25 minutes late) and headed out. The first part of the flight was easy and clear then after awhile the view turned to this

florida2010011.jpg

(confession, being the science geek I am, I took this picture to show the change in color of the atmosphere as you move up :rolleyes1) But it also shows the thick blanket of clouds below us! I didn’t think a lot of it until we started to hit turbulence. I wouldn’t call myself a frequent flyer but have flown a number of times, some quite long distances, and have only gotten sick on 1 flight, a much smaller plane than I was on this day. OH BOY…my inner ear condition started to kick in and the vertigo began! :faint: I had some Dramamine in my bag in the overhead compartment but couldn’t get to it. Corry’s mom came to my rescue by reaching into her bag and finding just what I needed!

The stewardess (is this still the proper term?) was telling us that the flight from MCO to DSM was one of the worst she had ever been on and was far more turbulent than what we were experiencing at that time. Later of course after hearing about the storms in Tennessee I realized what exactly we were flying over. Watching the news the next day was much to reminiscent of our 2008 trip when we watched in horror the devastating flooding going on not far from our own homes in Iowa.

About 45 minutes before arrival, the clouds once again cleared and after landing, this lovely sight appeared

florida2010030.jpg

Aaaaahhhhhhhhh! Palm trees, sunshine and the fake monorail! :goodvibes I quickly ran off the plane and onto said monorail

florida2010031.jpg

I was on side B and easily found the escalators down to level 1. As I approached the ME desk, I was ushered to a podium where I checked in and was pointed to the correct line containing only 6 or 8 people. I was a bit worried looking at other lines with dozens of people in them that I had maybe just missed a bus but it was less than 5 minutes before I was escorted outside. Given our 15 minute late arrival, I was thrilled at what great time I was making!! :yay:

florida2010035.jpg

Within minutes, our driver

florida2010039.jpg

(your guess is as good as mine on that one!) had us on the road watching a lovely video

florida2010042.jpg

I must say, I know it was only 20 minutes or so but I was about busting with excitement and it seemed much longer before we finally saw this wonderful sign

florida2010046.jpg

Then not long at all before our first stop, my home for the next 8 nights

florida2010050.jpg

Now this is a sight that makes you worry some…I never heard anything about what might have happened

florida2010052.jpg

I had done online check-in and had noted on my ressie my room requests and despite the note on my check-in packet, I was informed my room was in Ranchos 6B. I was not thrilled with this and asked if there were any options in other sections but was told that due to a conference going on, the other sections were full. The young man who checked me in was not very good but he did do one nice thing by letting me know that there would be a lot of check-outs the following day if I wanted to return in the morning and request a move.

I took the long hike around the lake to my room which I finally found in the maze of building 6B (I tell you, I never did figure out where I was!). When I arrived I quickly took off my jeans and sneakers and changed into shorts and sandals to head out but first took a few pictures of the room while it still looked nice.

florida2010055.jpg

The rooms at CSR are SO beautiful! But I wasn’t interested in the room…I was starving and wanted to GO!! I swung through the dig site pool looking for Michelle and her Mom but didn’t find them. After another stop in El Centro to get my gift card not given to me by the first CM and checking on dinner ADR’s at the concierge desk, I hoped on a bus and the time was now

florida2010060.jpg

And was headed here

florida2010058.jpg

I stopped only for a moment to say hello

florida2010061.jpg

But this was not my destination…I was actually on my way here

florida2010063.jpg

Ick, feeling yucky on a plane is the worst.

I have no patience for the Magical Express bus rides. I love that they have the transportation but I just want to get THERE. I have zero patience.

Your room is beautiful. Good idea taking the pictures before the room got messy, I do that too. :rotfl2:

Excellent update. One day I will only have Coronado Springs as the only resort I haven't stayed at and will be forced to stay there until then I will visit it through your pictures and talk about the fact I do not want to stay there and have another run in with Maria Consuela!

Nice update, Katie. Four months until we're back in those wonderful rooms at the CSR. I hope it was nothing serious with the fire department/ambulance there. We've never done ME (we always rent a car), so it was neat seeing the photo of the "welcome" they show.

Love your pictures! I don't know why I don't ever take pictures at the airport, I love that little monorail! :cool1:

Wonderful Update Katie!!!

You are right the rooms at CSR are beautiful!! I hope I get a better CM though when I check into POR in the fall, I MUST have a Mansion room LOL!!!!

OH THE MAGIC KINGDOM...hmmmm...someone was headed to the Contemporary......LOL!

Can't wait for more!

Great update. I'm sorry the plane ride was so tough. But nothing like a view of the fake monorail to make one feel better! ::yes::

Can't wait to see what you did in the MK on your first evening!

Always itching to get going when we get there too! Can't wait to see where you ate at the Contemporary!

Ugggg, sorry your flight was less than magical :sad2: feeling ill on a plane is the worst!

Looking forward to hearing about the rest of your night. I know where your going.......... :rolleyes1

I'm new to your TR too. MeMom sent me over as I am currently considering a girls' only trip. I cannot wait to read more! Dramamine is my best friend. ;)
