DS told me today that his underwear "wasn't cool". Apparently American Eagle and Aeropostale are the cool brands.

$10 a pair!!
:scared1:

After shipping and tax I am looking at $55 for 4 pair of underwear at American Eagle.

Any good sales coming up at American Eagle or Aeropostale? I am headed to Ross tomorrow to see what I can find that may be "cool". I cannot spend $55 on 4 pair of underwear. My budget-mindedness won't let me!!

for AE sign up for emails and wait until black friday. if memory serves me correct they did 40% off everything in the store last year. also they have a frequent shoppers card, that will get occasional coupons mailed to you. finally if you can go to the brick and mortar store or check to see if there is one at your local outlet mall which may be the best deal. i went to the AE outlet near me for the first time and i found the stuff there was on sale for crazy prices. i don't buy the men's undies though so i have no idea what prices it goes on sale for.

I just saw the Aeropostale Black Friday Ad and it says 60% off everything, excluding markdowns and fragrances. I don't know if it's just in the store or online as well. It might be worth checking out.

Well, he said Aeropostale is okay, but American Eagle is apparently the "hot" brand.

I am going to wait until Black Friday. And hope for the best.

Thanks everyone!

I am used to the packs of Hanes & Fruit of the Loom at Walmart. He is a teenager now, and name brand matters.

Yup, aero is 60% off black friday. DS gets his boxers from AE, too. I feel your pain. :)

Oh my, I'm leery of having boys now, I didn't realize that boys cared about having the "hot brand" of underwear! :rotfl2:

DBF buys his Hanes from Target, I hope he doesn't catch on to this craze, LOL.

I'm having the same problem. I'm used to the 5 packs for 8.99 Hanes or fruit of the loom. This year DS wants either under armour or American eagle underwear. Holy cow they are expensive. I only buy them on sale. Check the tops of the clearance racks, you'll find some underwear up there usually. I'm waiting for Black Friday to pick up more for stocking stuffers.

Also DS is 12 and I have a super duper issue with buying him underwear that says "nice package" or "hung with care" on them so I only buy solids or stripes and you can usually find those on clearance. Guess I'm not a cool mom :(

They got so expensive when you bought into your child having to wear a brand name on an item of clothing nobody should be seeing anyway and get poop and pee stains on them. ;) If you want to buy the expensive ones at least wait till they go on clearance and have a promo code. :thumbsup2

I refuse to pay $10/pair. I have gotten them on clearance at American Eagle: $7.99 clearance price, less 40% clearance reduction. Even better when I have a 20-40% off coupon from the frequent buyer program. So, from $2.70-$4.80. Selection is alway limited, but I stock up when I find a good price.

I'd be more worried about who is seeing his underwear so often that it matters what brand they are. :rotfl2: FWIW, if my teen wants "special" undies or special anything, they pay the difference between what I'm willing to spend and what they want. That often helps re-align priorities when it's their money involved.

Thank goodness my teen boy is happy with Hanes or Jockey boxer briefs. I can't see paying top $ for a label basically no one will see. I can somewhat understand a shirt or jeans but not undies.

Totally not worth $10 a pair, BUT... The last few years I've ended up at Aero on Black Friday getting hoodies and T-Shirts for my kids. I picked up some underwear for myself because it was on sale and felt like a good weight cotton. I must say that they are VERY comfortable, wash well and don't get thin or stretchy. I'll be going again on BF to snag a few more pair.

That's our policy too - works wonders!

DD18 got like that in HS too and were also pricey at those stores. They are seen during changes for gym class and at sleepovers. AE is very good about sending coupon codes and having sales so DD would always wait for a good deal and use her own money.

My husband like the hanes from Target or Walmart too, I hope he never wants name brand, they'd kill my budget, lol!!

Your kids have poop and pee stains on their underwear? :confused3 Are they toddlers?

It is no different than some women wanting to wear Victoria's Secret or whatever other brand of bras/underwear.

If people can afford it, what does it matter what type of underwear they buy their kids?

Yep I have no problem buying DS American eagle underwear but only on sale. I like my Victoria's Secret it makes me feel pretty & girly even if only I know it's on. I wait for sales and coupons so I don't feel guilty. DH has certain brands of socks and underwear he likes and that's what I buy too. If DS want these special underwear i'll buy them but I wait for the sales. He'll get some in his stocking, he got some back to school shopping, his birthday etc. When they become gifts I don't mind.
