What was the first 78, 45, 33 or CD you ever bought?

LOL!

I don't know what year it was, but Janis Joplin had a hit with Me and Bobby McGee. I remember going to the Grant's Department Store with my mother and I had a dollar, my very own first dollar! :bounce: I remember buying the *eh hem ... cough cough* 45 and a candy bar and STILL having like 40 cents left over. LOL!

I *think* my first 33/album was Carly Simon's Anticipation. Either that or a Monkees album. :p

My first CD was Bruce Springsteen's Greetings from Asbury Park, a replacement for the album when CD players first came out.

How about you? :hyper: :teeth:

My first album was some Disney thing, my second was John Schneider.

my first record album was thriller, my first tape was madonna, true blue, and i don't remember what my first cd was.

I am not sure which was the first one I ever bought, but I remember someone gave me Ricky Nelson's Travelling Man for my tenth or eleventh birthday. I was too embarassed to admit my family did not own a record player LOL

If I had been a bit younger it would certainly have been Me and Bobby McGee. I absolutely loved that song. Still do....It's a Kristofferson thing for me LOL But I did love Joplin's rendition. Did you know he gave her the song to sing when they were living together?

My dear sister and I pooled our resources and purchased the Bay City Rollers "Saturday Night" (S-A-T-U-R D-A-Y. Night) on 45. I remember the day so well. We walked up to Pergaments and declared the day "Sister's Day" ( a tradition we continued monthly while growing up). Thanks for the memory, OP.

First LP was Elton John's Greatest Hits--the first one.

Gosh--I know I had Steve Miller Band on :earseek: 8 track, but do not know if it was my first. Don't remember my first cassette or CD.

The very first 33 was Donny Osmond. Mom bought it though. You know, most of my albums were given to me for presents. I can't remember any that I actually spent my money on. 45's the same way.
Let's see. I have bought some CD's, but most of them were given as well.
Oh, I know one. I bought myself a Michael Bolton cd, right before christmas. Guess what I got for christmas. lol yep, another one.

You forgot to mention 8 track!

My first CD's, I bought them all at once was

INXS Kick, Sinead o Connor Lion and Cobra, Tracy Chapman Self Titled, U2 Joshua Tree and one more.

I didn't really do records that much.

Oh my gosh, I had such a crush on Ricky Nelson, all my life. Garden Party is one of my all time favorite songs. I had no idea Kristofferson lived with Joplin!

IMGONNABE40 ... "Sister's Day"! That is too cool!

To all you other music people

If you ever see Kristofferson's biography being shown on A&E, check it out.

Interesting you should mention Garden Party....my husband always tells me that song changed his life. He was driving down the road listening to it, and he suddenly realized the validity of the words. He literally stopped trying to please everyone from that day on and became a much happier man. I bet that song had that efffect on a lot of people. Ricky himself wrote it after appearing on stage and trying to deliver new material. The crowd only wanted to hear the oldies, and were very unkind to him. The song came from what he learned on stage that day.

I heard that story too, from his sons. They were the opening act of the Frampton/Styx concert and sang it after they explained it.

Paper Roses by Marie Osmond.... which I played over and over and over and....................................over:crazy:

It was either Iron Butterfly "Live" or The Royal Guardsmen of "Snoopy and the Red Baron" fame. :earseek:

my first 45 was 'From Me To You' by the Beatles on the Vee Jay label, bought at a small record store on the corner of Damen, Milwaukee and North Ave. in Chicago. Wish I still had it! My first LP was 'Meet The Beatles' bought from the same store. I do still have that! My first CD was "Dark Side of the Moon"

Oh, this is embarassing...

1st 45s (at the same time) were Melissa Manchester's "You Should Hear How She Talks About You," and Men at Work's "Down Under." Billy Ocean's "Caribbean Queen" came soon after.

1st album (my own, not my brothers) was Lionel Ritchie's "All Night Long."

1st tape...not sure but it might have been Depeche Mode (yes, my music tastes changed drastically)

Didn't buy a CD until college...probably the Indigo Girls, self titled (again, another drastic shift)

Thanks for the stroll down memory lane...

My first "45" was "I Can't Help Myself" by the Four Tops. My second was "I can't get no Satisfaction" by the Rolling Stones. The 1960's had some great music.
:D

1st 45 was Henry The Eighth by Hermans Hermits

1st Album was The Monkees

Not sure what my first CD was.

I had many 33's that my parents bought me, but I do remember the first album and cassette and CD:

Album - Michael Jackson's Thriller
Cassette - Stray Cats' Built for Speed
CD - Acappella Vocal Band - Celebrate and Party.

YES! I was a teen in the 80's!! :teeth:
