Just wondering what people think about changing Tom Sawyer's Island to Pirate's Lair? Thanks

I say leave it alone and make Dicovery Island and River Country Pirate themed. River Country could be Tortuga and then guest could shuttle back and forth from RC to DI in the form of Pirate ships that fire cannons at each other as they pass.

This could even be one of those High priced ticket parks like Discovery Cove.

i think it would be a great idea for a Pirate themed Island but I wouldnt take away Tom Sawyers island...(hope disney is listening to this thread!!!) I love the idea of the Pirate ships w/ the cannons but paying extra is no fun! :)

I've not been to Tom Sawyer's Island at MK (we didn't have enough time!), but the one at DL was in dire need of a makeover. They had removed so many things from there due to injuries, lawsuits or the fear of lawsuits that there really wasn't much else to do there anymore. All the fun stuff was gone. I'll be sad to see it changed, but I also cannot wait to see what they have done with it.

That said, I hope that they at least keep the one at MK the same and add the pirates themed place somewhere else. Just a touch of nostalgia, that's all.

Awesome idea!

Wow! I LIKE this idea.

I agree that TSI is fine as is. Maybe kind of simple, but that's what makes it cool IMO. Look for me eating an ice cream at Aunt Polly's in June

We recently rediscovered the greatness that is Tom Sawyers Island. Nothing beats a hot, tourist filled day at the Magic Kingdom like a quick trip over to Tom Sawyers Island. Especially if the ice cream and lemonade stands are up and running!

For one, I just find the whole layout of it very peaceful and relaxing, and it's a great place to have a snack or lunch. There is lots of shade, so it's a nice way to get out of the sun, and the caves are great for kids (and adults too ;) ).

Plus, it's one of the few places that Disney hasn't taken the whole "gun" theme away from, since you can still go to the fort and take shots and hear your gun fire just like when I was a kid. You won't find that hardly anywhere else in Disney now a days (Ft. Wilderness has almost all references of a gun removed).

It's not like it's a dead attraction, I still see full boats heading both ways every time we go.

Plus, who doesn't love jumping up and down on the barrell bridge, watching as your dear wife hangs on like she's about to fall in the water...lol

1) I like Tom Sawyer theming.
2) So do the grandkids.
3) It is a good respite during the day - and a lot of fun.
4) Sure, I like Pirates.
5) But I don't WDW to go overboard with the theme. - they already have
. . . pirates & princess party
. . . two pirate cruises
. . . a pirates section at bibbity bobbity boutique
. . . jack sparrow tutorial

While I am in favor of new innovative attractions, I would like to see Disney continue to offer a variety of entertainment. While I understand Disney want to capitilize on a popular brand, I would be unhappy to see a glut of quick Pirate "paint jobs" to the exclusion of other possible Imagineer ideas.

They did take it away at Disneyland, after a kid lost a finger (sorry for being grim!). They closed the fort and that was that. AND they took away the stone "merry-go-round".

You're SO mean!!! :goodvibes

The biggest problem is that Tom Sawyer island is in frontier land, and the pirates would put it in adventure land!!! frontier land is suffering enough as is.

i agree with making river country and discovery island pirate themed

I love TSI. I would hate to see them change it. But a pirate-themed River Country would be cool.

Where are these places? I haven't been to WDW enough to know.

Thanks!

I just love Google Earth. Here's a photo. Discovery Island was in Bay Lake, behind the Contemporary. River Country was just to the southeast, near Fort Wilderness.

aww:sad2: I love tom sawyer island! One time when my dad went with my mom they were feeding the birds 10 ft. away from the ice cream stand. By the time my mom went to get the ice cream and it closed!:lmao: It is such a great funny memory and now disney has to go and destroy it!:sad2: :sad1:
Oh well my mom and dad will see it the second week of june!:)

We've never been over there - but were planning on taking DD when we went in October. I heard it was a good place to let little ones run around. As usual, Disney is going a bit overboard with "branding." The Pirate and Princess party annoys me enough. I should be able to stay late in the parks w/o having to pay extra.

Well I am not sure. We have never been over there because we were told it is not a very accesable area for DS's w/c. So if they are going to make it where it is easy to get around for us I am thrilled with whatever they do over there. Plus we love pirates . :)

We want TSI to stay as it is. But we felt the same way about Mr. Toad's Ride. I understand changes, we just like the nostalgia.
I agree with doing a Pirate theme at River Country.
:hippie:

My family loves Tom Sawyer Island. We love Aunt Polly's, the caves and of course the barrell bridge. On our last trip DD and I took a break sitting on the rocking chairs and watching BTMRR.
I love Pirates but don't want to see them replace Tom Sawyer Island.
