What did WE celebrate? .. 30 days of Disney fun and food! Update 04/02

My oh my Karin your dessert at Tritons looks divine...mmmmmmmmmm.

My worst nightmare would be Mr Know-It-All and Mrs Follower of Know-It-All, yuk, you did well describing them, have a very clear picture in my mind!

it looks as if our August cruise is not to be this year, but one day, one day!

So enjoying your reviews.:thumbsup2

mmmmm....rumcake!!!!:cloud9: We have a Tipsy Cake here that is similar, but with Jack Daniels. It's good, but not rumcake!

That dessert was so worth waiting for! It was just so good, light and soft and the toffee sauce! :cloud9:

We really hit it off with our tablemates on the second cruise - we had so much fun! Don't worry about it too much! :thumbsup2

So sorry if you have to cancel your plans for an August cruise! :sad2: It would have been fun to sail together!

We didn't even know about rumcake until we heard about it on our first cruise in 2009 - never tried it though! :lmao:
Last summer we were determined to try it! And we did ......... and took some home! :rotfl2: :thumbsup2

Ooh that rum cake sounds and looks delish :teeth: Must look out for that shop next year.

So you weren't that keen on the tour of Atlantis? I need to research the place and see if it is worth exploring for next year. I know they have a casino and aquarium and the water slides are supposed to be excellent, but not sure if you can use those if you aren't a guest.

Can't believe "that guy" was on your tour, was he awful?

The Bacardi Factory is just up the street from the harbour, you can even see it from the Wonder. There is another place that sells the rumcake and they are yummy too. I need to look what it was called, but I can give you directions if you want me to. They DO give out samples! :lmao:

The water slides were NOT part of our tour. We have actually done two tours in Nassau - first time the Sea and See Tour. They put you in a submarine and even though you are under water it is boiling in there. We DID see lots of fish and it was interesting, but I was happy to leave after an hour. Then it was the SEE Tour. A sightseeing tour in a bus where we could not sit where we wanted as the "weight" needed to be distributed evenly, so the bus would not tip over! :scared1: :rotfl2: There is NOT MUCH to see in Nassau - a place that calls a watertower, a hospital and a police-station its sights is not worth doing the sightseeing tour. You can walk a lot of Nassau and if you want to do the Atlantis you can either get a taxi or do a tour that includes the water park there.
The second tour was last year - the one I just talked about in my review. It was mearly the aquarium and shopping. No water slides included!
But you can look into it - there are a lot of resorts who share the water slides, you can rent a room there, check in, and the room key is your "key to the slide". Check your cruise thread and several can team up and rent a suite together and share the cost. (If you need more info, just ask!)
On our second day in Nassau we just explored on foot and enjoyed the Wonder. With some people off the ship it was quiet and fun. Next summer we will have 3 Nassau days and we won't go on any tours, just walk into Nassau, do some shopping and enjoy the adult pool! ;)

Stefy, are you doing a 3 night or a 4 night cruise - I keep forgetting! :lmao: If you have not booked yet - I would recommend the 4 night! So much more relaxing and the day at sea is just the best!!!!!!!! Brunch at Palo! Yummo!!!!!!

Ah I see, thanks for that :) So maybe just making your way there is the best option. I'm not that fussed about the water slides, but if the Aquarium and shopping is still something to see/do then maybe we will do that instead. DF isn't all that keen on going into Nassau, but I figure its the first time we have ever been to the Caribbean we can't not.

We are going for a three night for now, we were contemplating four but because of the wedding and moving out we gotta watch the pennies.

Of course brunch at Palo's is a must, I believe a certain someone on this thread, lets call her Tarin ;) converted me to Cruises and to Palo!!!

If you just want to do some shopping, take a taxi or the water shuttle (or whatever it is called,).
As I said, Nassau is nothing to write home about, but at least you can stock up on souvenirs and some liquids! :lmao:

That's why I suggest the 4 night cruise, Stefy, NO brunch on the 3 night cruise! It is only offered on the day at sea!!! Maybe you can squeeze in the extra day! ;)

I had the same issue with chocolate mickey waffles!

I saw them at Crystal Palace last December and got sooo excited. "Hmm I love Mickey Waffles and I love Chocolate....so this must be devine!"

I sat down to eat it, and like you, had the same reaction...it just taste kind of burnt and icky. Something just doesn't work with them....guess you can't top perfection!

I did see them at CP too! But they were way back and I didn't want to lean over the whole buffet, so I took a regular one - guess it was good that way! :thumbsup2 :goodvibes

Still Day 14, August 27

Disney Wonder - Goofy's Galley, Pluto's Doghouse and Scoops

After our shopping tour to the Bacardi Store we were hungry and went up to Goofy's Galley for a snack.

IMG_6581.jpg

I had a sandwich, guess it was mozzarella and tomato and some mixed green leaves with balsamic dressing to go with it! We were sharing both plates so I got a taste of Tom's plate too.

IMG_6582.jpg

Tom had the grilled ham and cheese sandwich, which was really yummy. Crispy toasted on the outside and filled with salty ham and gooey cheese! Yum!
His second choice were the chicken caesar wraps, which were really good and just the right size.

Once we had finished our snack we decided to have another one!

Tom went over to to Pluto's Doghouse

IMG_6585.jpg

IMG_6586.jpg

and got a Hot Dog! Now before anyone asks about the missing condiments - we wanted it bland! :lmao:
We had had a Hot Dog at Casey's in the MK and hated it. Now the ones on the wonder smelled yum and we thought we not share one. And I don't know what it was but this one WAS nice. We really loved it and always talked about getting another one during the course of the cruise, but we never made it back to the Doghouse! ;)

Well, that's not all ............ we still wanted ONE more treat!

IMG_6601.jpg

IMG_6602.jpg

Ice-cream!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I think the first one is a chocolate and vanilla swirl with chocolate sauce and the other one vanilla with caramel sauce.

We enjoyed the ice cream while taking a walk on deck. You need to burn those calories again, don't you?

Next up - Disney Wonder - Dinner at Palo

Oh no, that sucks!!! Wonder if the dream has anything similar to Palo where we get yummy buffet food and desserts.

I just looked to see if we could do a 4 night, but dates conflict with other plans, so its gonna have to be a 3 night for now and then maybe a 4 night next time, as you know and I know we will defo want to go on another one :teeth:

I am with you on the bland hot dog, when we go to Caseys I ask for plain and add my ketchup (no mustard or onions for me) and that one in your pic looks gooooooooood! and that ice cream :cloud9:

So sorry if you have to cancel your plans for an August cruise! :sad2: It would have been fun to sail together!

I know Karin,, but we have to fly home on 23 Aug to make some more £££ (or should that be $$$) for us to give to Walt the following year :rotfl:

You need to burn those calories again, don't you?

Nope, I told you before, Walt said that there are no calories at Disney or on his ships:lmao:

Rum Cake for Breakfast - LOVE IT :yay::yay::yay:

Yes, we had to sacrifice ourselves and taste it, before we went back to buy some more! :rotfl2:

The Dream will have a Palo Restaurant. You can book your dinner there, but it will be an extra 20$ charge AND you will lose one of your assigned dinners (you'll dine in one of the three regular restaurants every evening). Brunch is only offered during a day at sea.
Maybe you can work your schedule around so you could do the 4 night - so worth it! ;)

I completely forgot about the no calories on Disney ships! ;) Thanks for reminding me - another reason to snack a little more! :rotfl2:

I do understand that sometimes you have to cut your vacation a little short in order to be able to go another time! And Mickey definitely NEEDS your money! ;) :lmao: ......... and mine! :rotfl2:

Disney Wonder - dinner at Palo

Shortly before we left Nassau we went on deck to watch the ship leaving.
While we were waiting we bumped into a friend who was already dressed for this night's occasion - the Pirates IN the Caribbean party!

IMG_6612.jpg

Our dinner that night was at Palo, the adults only restaurant on board. We were happy to get away from Mr. Know it all and were sure NOT to meet him there as he had told everyone that he thought paying extra for another restaurant was a rip off, especially since they had nothing he liked on the menu - he was a meat and potato kind of guy! Thank you, sir, for not spoiling MY dinner! :rotfl2:

Our server was Oliver from Australia and we requested him every other time we ate at Palo!

After taking our drinks order we were served these -

IMG_6614.jpg

Homemade dips, olive tapanade, aioli and roasted pepper

IMG_6616.jpg

Tapanade

IMG_6617.jpg

Roasted peppers

IMG_6618.jpg

Aioli (garlic mayonaise)

IMG_6613.jpg

Specialita' Del Palo: Antipasto Freddo, Prosciutto, Bresaola, Parmesan Reggiano, Marinated Olives and Sun-dried Tomatoes and

IMG_6615.jpg

Pane Casalingo, Freshly-baked Bread in the Pizza Oven, served with Palo's Famous Dips. Grissini Sticks, Olive Rolls, Ciabatta Rolls and Six Grain Wholemeal
Comment: :cloud9: :cloud9: :cloud9:

IMG_6619.jpg

In the meantime our drinks, Diet Cokes had arrived and so had our drinks from the bar. Tom had a Whisky Sour.

IMG_6621.jpg

And another Strawberry Daiquiri for me!

We ordered our starters and they came out promptly.

IMG_6626.jpg

Tom had the Tuna Carpaccio and Lemon Oil Dressing, Thin Slices of Ahi Grade Tuna brushed with our Chef's Special Lemon Oil. We had tried this the year before and it was heavenly and it did not disappoint. Paper thin slices of Tuna, ever so lightly scented with lemon oil and some frisee, which added a bit of bitterness to it. Heaven!!!!

IMG_6624.jpg

The year before I had made 3 attempts to order the Melanzane al Funghetto
Lightly-salted Eggplant sautéed with Garlic and Parsley served with a Balsamic Dressing. This year I finally ordered it and it was so good! The eggplant was sauteed perfectly and went so well, with the lightly dressed green leaves and the Parmesan cheese!

Once we had finished our starters Oliver brought out the palate cleanser!

IMG_6627.jpg

Lime sorbet. Tart and cold and so refreshing! We loved it.

To be continued ...........Next up - Disney Wonder - Palo Part 2

Disney Wonder - Palo Part 2

IMG_6631.jpg

IMG_6632.jpg

Next came the main courses. I ordered the Beef Tenderloin "Palo"
Served with Palo's Gorgonzola Sauce. Cooked to perfection the meat melted in your mouth, the potatoes were devine and the Gorgonzola sauce had just the right amount of blue cheese to be not overpowering. Veggies still crunchy - what else can ask for! :cloud9:

IMG_6633.jpg

IMG_6635.jpg

IMG_6637.jpg

Tom had the Grilled Monkfish with Braised Radicchio and Prosciutto
Served with creamy mascarpone Polenta. Oliver introduced it to us as the dish with the long antennas! Well, antennas or not, Tom loved his entree. The Monkfish was moist and ever so delicately spiced and the combination with the polenta and the radicchio was a marriage made in heaven.

IMG_6639.jpg

There is only one photo of dessert, as we both had the same! The Chocolate Soufflé With Vanilla Bean and Chocolate Sauce. Well, yes, I had both sauces - I could not decide so Oliver decided for me and let me have both.
That Souffle is like having died and gone to heaven good. Light and airy, which a rich chocolate taste, still soft in the middle! It takes 20 minutes to prepare, but is so worth the wait! ;) :goodvibes

IMG_6644.jpg

Every dinner is finished with a "farewell drink". Lemoncello with lemon sorbet! It is so good! Fresh and lemony and the perfect ending to a perfect dinner!

We finished our dinner just in time for the Pirate Party and the fireworks! Disney Cruise Line is the only Cruise Line that does fireworks at sea, so watch out for our cruiseships being "parked" around the Wonder (Dream) to watch them too!

And this is what we found when we returned to our stateroom!

IMG_6666.jpg

Our stateroom host Arturo had done a really good job!

Next up - Disney Wonder - Roomservice Breakfast

Karin - Just wanted to pop in and say I'm reading along and enjoying all of your reviews. I'm super busy and am having a hard time keeping up with all my favorite threads!

Wonderful Food Porn Karin!!! The grilles tomatoes for breakfast were a favorite of mine growing up !!! Palo looks delish !!! Thank goodnes Mr Know It All didn't spoil that evening !!!!

WOW! Palo looks amazing. I cannot stand people like the Mr. Know It All you described from your first night. I'm sure he probably claimed to know Austria better than you and Tom. :lmao:

The tuna carpaccio, breads and dips, and the chocolate souffle are really calling my name. I might have to consider a Disney cruise next time just so I can go to Palo!
