What color is your daughter's prom dress/son's colors

DGD's prom was last Friday. Actually BF's senior prom, but since she's a sophomore I told her I wasn't spending a fortune on a dress. She found this one on David's Bridal website and liked it so we went to try it on. She loved it and never looked at or tried on anything else. It was $110 with tax plus $45 to hem since's she's pretty short. I paid for her spray tan, eyebrow threading dress, shoes, stylist's tip. She paid for hair/makeup, earrings, garter, acrylic nails (she has a job). All together we spent $370.08. BF paid for prom tix and drove his truck. They went to Chicago the day after prom and BF paid for the whole day.

I've been putting money away every week for her senior prom for two years already. For that, if she wants the $800+ dress she shall have it!

THat is a gorgeous dress! Pretty enough to be married in.

DD's dress for her boyfriends prom is coral. It's a really pretty color and DD has dark hair (at the moment) and it really stands out with the color. We bought it at a bridal shop for $120. Shoes are from 8th grade homecoming. We found some hair accessories on Amazon for like $30 (kiosk at the mall wanted $90!). Hair will be done at salon, makeup done by DD. Boyfriend is buying prom tickets ($60 each). No limo they will just drive. And never thought of a purse or something, will have to look around.

To the poster who commented about only needing a straight hem - be careful! We took DD's to be hemmed and that's exactly what the woman did, hemmed it straight all the way around. Well if your daughter has any kind of butt, the straight hem will not work! DD's dress was 4 inches too short in the back with her shoes on (yup, she had her shoes on when she was measured for alterations). Needless to say, I had to scour the entire USA to find the dress again, in a size that could be altered down to her size. Luckily, found a small enough dress in Texas, have the 2nd dress and it is currently at the bridal shop being altered correctly this time. And yup, alterations at the bridal shop cost as much as the dress did. Dress was $120, alterations, $120! (and FYI - the woman who messed up the first dress did pay me for it and returned the money I had paid her to alter it - so luckily I only paid for one dress and one alteration!) Next year is DD's prom, so I have learned my lesson about alterations.

Ok update on this. So after I paid David's Bridal $120 to alter DD's dress, she went to pick it up this past Wednesday, had an appointment (that THEY made for her - day/time). Dress hasn't even been touched!! No alterations done to it AT ALL! Prom is tomorrow - Saturday. She had to wait there for over 2 hours for them to do it right then and there. How can you have a dress for almost 4 weeks, make an appointment for pick up and not have it finished?? The manager ended up giving us our money back but I can't imagine how they make any money. The same thing happened to DD's friend. Dress wasn't done, gave her money back. Unreal.

But we have the dress, it fits and prom is tomorrow! Phew! Can't wait until this is over!

Hope everyone else's prom bound kids have a great time over the next couple weeks!!

Wow. Glad you got it done!

DD is a sophomore and didn't expect to go to prom, which is tomorrow. She was asked by a junior at the last minute, and we didn't want to spend a fortune, so she borrowed a dress from a friend. It is light blue / aqua, strapless, with a jeweled bodice and a fairly open back. I spent several hours ironing it, and had to move a snap and a couple of hooks to make sure it stayed snug on top. I was pretty proud of myself for doing that, BTW. It isn't what she would have chosen herself, but it is lovely and she looks beautiful in it. We spent $100 on shoes, jewelry and a "sticky" bra. We will probably spend another $75 on her nails and $50 on her hair. Her date bought the tickets and ordered the flowers, and I will pay his mom back for the boutonniere. I don't know what he is wearing, and I guess we will see tomorrow.

It is kind of nice to do all of this at the last minute, and in her sophomore year, because there is no stressing to make sure everything is just perfect. I am only a bit concerned because DD is in Canada today at a hockey tournament and won't be home until the week hours of tomorrow morning. She had better not be grumpy! I am looking forward to tomorrow.

Story of alterations everywhere I think. I lied to a seamstress last year because I was so anxious about needing to leave a dress for a month simply to be shortened. I said prom was two weeks earlier than it was just so I could sleep at night. Finding a seamstress was enough of an expedition in the first place.

DD's prom isn't for another two weeks and we don't have a finished dress yet. We go Wednesday for final adjustments and dress pickup. Ordinarily this would have me in need of therapy, but luckily I know the designer will not let us down.

This is DD18, in the rain, from her prom back on the 30th.

She ended up getting spoiled by her uncles. She had 3 different corsages to choose from. Two of the girls she went with didn't have any, so she took her choice, then gave each one of them one. So it ended up working out with the extra 2. She choice the one that lite up. The one on the left has a butterfly in the center. The one on the right is the original one made for her.

She looks lovely! Although I give her props for dealing with that corsage all night. It would make me crazy all across my hand like that.

Me too! I would have scratched my skin off by the end of the night.

I guess she was ok with it, she picked it all out. Her date did not pick out anything without pre-approval from dd. He even texted her that day and asked her which of two pair of black socks he should wear! LOL. She kept saying it was ok, it didn't matter so much and he kept saying "but I want everything perfect for you." Too sweet.

when my son went to his Senior Prom, his date told him her dress was "dirty gold" :confused3 he was more confused after she told him than before lol. He chose a black tux and they chose a tie together, and his camo socks lol. Apparently dirty gold is black and gold woven material... kinda shiny but not not overly so.

My daughter is only a sophomore, but a friend that's a senior asked her to go. Since it's his prom, she asked him if he wanted her to try and wear a certain color-he said navy blue, so that's what she found. It was very easy, tons of navy dresses this year. She got hers at Macy's. Navy with gold beading. I have to get it hemmed a bit. The prom is June 2nd, I'll post pics after.

DD was requested by her boyfriend and his mom to help them tux shop. I can't remember what she said he's wearing, I think it includes a vest this year. I know the tux itself is classic style black. He was pushing for some kind of crazy socks, but his mom was begging DD to nix them so she did. I don't see what the big deal would be about some fun socks, but DD felt obligated to follow his mom's wishes.

DS was gonna have camo SOMETHING , so the sox were perfect. His date loved them( and he was wearing them even if she didn't, I mean , he would have never told her to not wear something she wanted ), and it inspired a leg shot of the guys lifting their pant legs to show off when the girls did a garter shot, lol.

I noticed someone else in the thread mentioned garters. Is that a thing in your area? It's not done anymore in the Detroit metro area anywhere I'm familiar with, I guess just fell out of fashion here between my day and now.

I think the sock pic sounds fun. After all, guys don't get much time to shine in the fashion arena IMO.

it was completely impromptu, and when the rest of the group saw my DS socks, they were all bummed THEY didn't wear fun one's~girls included in wishing their dates had. Garters, yeah, still a thing here( well, DS was 4 years ago and he was the last in our house) but I agree possibly on the way out.

Garters weren't a thing when my older DD went to prom four years ago either, or when my friends' daughters went to prom within the last seven or so years -- all at schools across the area. I guess maybe that's why it never occurred to me with DD. I had forgotten all about them until mentioned here & have no idea when that went out of tradition here. Just curious about what it's like for those in other areas.
