What color is your daughter's prom dress/son's colors

DS18 is wearing a black tux, emerald green vest and tie. His girlfriend is wearing an emerald green dress.

DS16 is wearing a white tux, pink vest and tie. His date is wearing a white and pink floral dress. He's so excited for the white tux! Lol!

Just curious where you get prom dresses from. I'm still a year away with my daughter but she said they order online. I'm not a fan of that. In my day we went to bridal shops. Love hearing about prom dresses and gowns. So much fun.

This year her dress came from a Bridal shop, on sale but still very pricey. Her dress last year was from Macy's, on sale. The year before, G-Ma bought it for her at Burlington Coat Factory, super cheap. The year before, she wore a dress that came from Macy's purchased the year before after prom season and on clearance on $12.00.

She still has another dress bought at the same time for 9.50, but because it is pale pink she won't wear it. We have hung onto it, just in case someone she knew needed a dress and we would help them out. Just after the 1st of 2017, all of her formal dresses are going to be going to FWMS Alliance Cinderella Day. They work with a local dry cleaners who get the dresses in tip top shape, then hold an outing where any girl can come and get a dress for free.

I had post a picture of her dress for this year on another post, that we had taken at the store. The picture did not show the color at all well, it looked blue. The dress is actually:

I'm going to just give some advice for those still shopping, check Group USA (Camille La Vie) website. We got dd's dress at the store last year and this year and the dresses are less expensive than other places.
The dress she wore last year I paid $190 for and saw it in Macy's last week for $250.
This year her dress was $180 and I just saw it on Nordstrom's website for $258.
So, if you find something in a store that you love, check the Group USA website to see if they have it for less.

Not sure how widespread it is, but Group USA may also have a physical store at an outlet mall in your area. DD and I visited the one in Detroit Metro area to help come up with ideas about what she really liked and what suited her.

We had to travel to NJ because the one in NY closed. They don't have many locations but if someone has one near or within a reasonable distance they are definitely worth checking out. HUGE selection.

Many girls here get their dresses from that store, but it's best to go in the winter, because some dresses get damaged from being tried on so much.

You can say that again. DD and I were in there in December, tumbleweeds, and again in February, pandemonium. There were ropes set up inside the fitting room entryway to keep the traffic through the doorway flowing and the line in some semblance of order. Made me sick to see so many dresses damaged by being mishandled. I wondered how they address that fact in the pricing. I literally saw dozens upon dozens of dresses so messed up they looked like they'd been dragged from the bottom of a little girl's dress up trunk and been played in for many hours with all the care a six year old takes when playing royal ball and tea party.

I bought my DD's dress from a Chinese company www.dressv.com . We ordered it custom made and it still needs some tailoring, mostly because of my DD's bust is big in comparison to her waist and the bodice gaps a bit. Even if I have to pay a bit more to have it altered, it was a real bargain and it came within 3 weeks.

The dress is a pale blue.

ETA: I *thought* that I wouldn't have to alter it too much, but I ended up spending $80. One quarter of the bodice was not beaded, the bodice gapped at her waist, the pads that covered her breasts were sewn on by only 2 threads each and one of them was about 2 inches higher than the other. I just wanted people to know if they look at this thread in subsequent years.

One of the girls DD dances with was just at Group USA in Auburn Hills MI this past weekend. They had a competition up there and she had 6 hour break between her dances, so she thought no problem. She said she was lucky to get into a dressing room with the 12 dresses she wanted to try on. She saw girls going in with 25+ dresses and moms and friends holding others that they wanted to try on. Said it was a MADHOUSE. I can't even imagine. DD kept it simple, she picked out a couple of different styles - ball gown, mermaid, and two pieces - and she tried on 10-12 dresses and her dress was actually the 2nd one she put on. She tried on the rest to make sure, but it wasn't dress after dress after dress.

And we were very careful trying them on and getting them hung back up. The one sales lady even told DD she was making their job easy with her.

It was kind of crazy there and I did see some damaged dresses but inside the dressing room was being run pretty well. The girls could not wear their shoes inside, and there were numerous workers there making sure everything was hung up on the rack properly and wheeled out of the way.

Last year some of the crystals (those plastic ones, not real ones LOL) were coming off dd's dress before she even tried it on and I pointed it out and asked if they would fix it for us if she took the dress. They said yes but were going to charge me. I said no that I wasn't paying for damage that wasn't done by us and they went and got the manager and she Ok'd it. I don't know if the individual stores do things differently but I couldn't believe they were going to charge me for that. This year we inspected her dress very carefully to make sure everything was perfect.

Exactly the store DD and I visited. To make matters worse, two of the clerks working the fitting room weren't any more careful than the customers trying on the dresses, including two apparently 40-ish year olds shopping for dresses for an event. Most of the damage I saw was unrepairable in my opinion. I just can't imagine anyone buying them at any price -- maybe some might work for theatrical productions where no one might be able to see the snagging, etc.?

There were no restrictions at our location. Even the inmates running the asylum were contributing to the problem, because I watched it while waiting in the line to get a dressing booth. If I get a chance I'll ask DD if it was handled any better two weeks ago because she was in there again helping a friend shop.

My son waited for his girlfriend to pick a dress before picking out his tux. She got a beautiful black and beige dress, so we are going tomorrow to get his tux. He's thinking black tux, vest and tie with a white shirt, but I might have him try on all black, including the shirt with a beige tie just to see. I know he will snapchat his girlfriend for approval, but I think it will look nice.

My daughter will go to the prom next year so I will have to remember to keep eBay in mind.

We got DD's senior prom dress from David's Bridal. It is actually a bridesmaid dress- strapless, full length satin A line skirt, draped waistline and a small rhinestone embellishment/clip at one side of the waist. It came in something like 25 different colors- DD picked a beautiful burgundy color that made her skin glow!! Very simple but elegant. She wore a rhinestone necklace and headband, and had silver strappy heels.

Her junior dress was from Dillard's (big department store like Macy's). It was mint green strapless with tulle ruffled skirt, jeweled waist, and glitter embedded in the fabric. DD told me she wanted to look like a big cupcake, and she did! Accessories were very classic- pearls and silver strappy heels.

She looked very different each year. Pretty and poufy junior year, and classic and elegant senior year. Added bonus- her senior dress ended up being her university colors, and she picked it out before deciding on where she was going for college. It is her Roll Tide dress!

DGD's prom was last Friday. Actually BF's senior prom, but since she's a sophomore I told her I wasn't spending a fortune on a dress. She found this one on David's Bridal website and liked it so we went to try it on. She loved it and never looked at or tried on anything else. It was $110 with tax plus $45 to hem since's she's pretty short. I paid for her spray tan, eyebrow threading dress, shoes, stylist's tip. She paid for hair/makeup, earrings, garter, acrylic nails (she has a job). All together we spent $370.08. BF paid for prom tix and drove his truck. They went to Chicago the day after prom and BF paid for the whole day.

I've been putting money away every week for her senior prom for two years already. For that, if she wants the $800+ dress she shall have it!
