wet ones vs liquid hand sanatizer vs ?

I use hand sanitizer when my hands are not visibly dirty but I have been touching a lot of things. I wash my hands with soap & water or use a wipe when they are visibly dirty. Lots of hospital based research on how alcohol based sanitizers are as good as washing if there is not visible dirt.

Hope this helps.

we use both , wet ones are good to wipe down and cool off with on a hot sticky day and to wipe down sticky kids after they eat ice cream and hand sanitizer to wash you hands before you eat a snack , we all so carry a small bottle of clorox surface spray to wipe down tables before we eat

my first choice is always to wash hands, obviously (hate to see people walk right by the public bathroom sinks to get sanitizer elsewhere....yuck)

i usually use the sanitizer, but it makes more sense to me to use sanitizer, then wipe them with regular diaper wipes (which we do when we have all the gear:) )

so does the antibacterial hand sanitizer kill viruses with the alcohol?

The alcohol based hand sanitizers are just as effective at killing germs as soap and water and probably more so since many people just give their hands a quick soap and rinse (or as I saw in a restaurant the other day - just a rinse) and don't spend enough time getting between the fingers and under the nails. Baby wipes (wet wipes) will clean up messes but do nothing with the germs.

since I have little ones, I still carry baby wipes and i do bring a small bottle of hand sanitizer, however, I primarily use good old soap and water. Obviously kids get sticky and a good wiped down may be necessary and even hand sanitizers have their place. However, I would not use a hand sanitizer before I ate - no chemicals in my food thanks. Also, hand sanitizers kills the vital flora on your hands, putting you at risk for fungal infections and bacteria that your body would normally be able to fight off on its own. Now, it won't do this if you only use them once in a while, but there are a lot of people who have gone crazy with the sanitizers. If we ever have the option, we will always choose good old soap and water.

I keep wet ones (in the individual foil packages) in my purse all the time. They are great for wiping our hands before eating, and they're not gloppy like jel hand sanitizer.
Obviously soap and water are helpful, too, but not always convenient.

Wet ones have antibacterial hand and face wipes! I got them at Walmart in the checkout aisle, but am sure they have them elsewhere too:) They are great!

If I can't get to soap and water then I use wet wipes. Sanitizer kills germs, both good and bad then spreads everything around on your hands. Wet wipes actually remove from your hands. My kids have severe allergies so I wipe tables etc. before they sit to eat as well.

thanks for your input, everyone.

I fully agree that soap and water is best, but I am thinking ahead to the time that we will have already been on 3 rides in a row, now in line for our fourth and the kids want a cheese stick.

By wet ones, I mean the Wet Ones brand antibacterial wipes, not diaper wipes. Diaper wipes are very good for stickey and gooey, but dont offer any sterilizing.

GoofyFairie- I like the idea that wipes actually remove germs/stuff from the hands, where gel just kills then spreads everything around. Is this fact or just your theory. Either way, this thought works for me.

Blissventure- how are the size and thickness/sturdiness of the individual wipes vs the ones that come in the container

We use soap and water as well but there are times at DL when it's not practical. (DL is our park of choice) In those cases I carry around a small bottle of hand sanitizer and we use that. I like the suggestion of using Clorox wipes to clean the table you sit at but we haven't really had dirty tables much, if we do grab one that's dirty we just ask someone to wipe it down for us. :)

I use the Wet One's Antibacterial Hand and Face wipes. The individual foil pack pocket sized single is 5"x7" when unfolded. They take up almost no room in my purse, and they are very handy. They are sturdy, one use wipes. They are gentle, the ingredients don't sting. They are great for hands and face, I've also used them to wipe down a tray table on an airplane.

Soap & Water works as good as anything on hands as long as you wash long enough. One verse of Happy Birthday will get the job done. The real issue here is not just eating. Our hands are on everything at the parks, the poles the chains the whatever, we are constantly subject to the environment of ubiquity. It's what we do with our hands before they are washed that affects us most. Nail biting, eye rubbing, you get the idea. Also, it is viral transmission that is more likely to cause an infection than bacterial transmission.:wizard:

Hope this helps.

For on the go, on the spot, my favorite is Huggies Clean Team wipes- they are larger and thicker (with more texture) than a wet one and they smell like watermelon, so DS doesn't mind when I use them on his face. They come in flat packages and sometimes are hard to find.

I really prefer Sani-Hands Kids individually wrapped wipes. You can get them at grocery stores or in the wipe/diaper area of Babies R Us, as well as, I am sure, other stores. These are great because they won't leak on anything, they are flat and you can pack and fit a lot.... when you have ridden a bunch of rides and are jetting somewhere and the kids want a snack, you wipe their hands down well with Sani Hands Kids wipe and wa-la. I understand there is no substitute for soap and water, but for me, these work great!

Absolutely! I hate when people use the sanitizer intead of washing after the bathroom, too. I'm often tempted too... when there are no paper towels, Penny can't reach the sink, etc.

Sanitizers kill most bacteria and viruses. The problem with bathrooms, especially, is that they are ineffective against C. difficile, (an intestinal bacteria that forms a spore that protects it from alcohol) which is becoming more common in the community. The best thing there is friction and running water.

We do use alcohol gels or wet wipes before snacks and gel after sneezing, etc.

We all get a squirt of hand sanitizer when we come off of a ride and before we eat. We wash well everytime we use the bathroom and I carry wipes with me for soiled hands/face and to wipe off tables etc. Works well for us.

The most important thing is to be aware of what you touch. If you touch railings, ride bars etc and then touch your face, rub your eyes or nose or touch your food you have just put yourself at risk.

:scared: my 6 year old gets soo fustrated.. he wines when i get the hand san out.. he knows whats comming..
remember when our moms used their spit?? boy we have come a long way!!
i like the hand sant.. easier to spread around his hands.. grimey fingers
