Oh, good. I got that email from them this morning and I was worried about your ressie. I thought you were going at the end of Aug into Sept. Glad this still works for you.

So, are you packed yet? And BTW......what do you pack for the fur babies?

Hey Atotty! Yea..for some reason I have us going august 27th...duh. We aren't arriving until the 3rd of september! Lol
Anyway, I take a lot of things...3 dogs is a lot of baggage...so to speak! I take a small bed for Rascal, his blanket, a few atoys for them to toss around. I take their own snacks and food and bottled water as well.

I take a pack of those animal bathing wipes in case they get...ya know...I call it dooty bootie! Lol!
I take a thermometer in case they get sick...uh...let's see...I take a portable water bowl for their walks, all their med records and shot records.

I know some of that seems weird, but I'm usually over prepared! Lol! You never know right?

Ok Atotty,

Im not on my phone doing this, so I can reply better! LOL..nope, not packed yet! I have got to start!

But what I do with the boys, is I take a backpack with only their stuff in it, then when we walk them, everything I need is in the bag. Wipes, bottled water, treats, and paper towels. In the mornings, when the grass is all wet, I usually just wipe their paws off cause they will make a mess in their crate with all wet paws! Hopefully with this new place, it wont be dern metal flooring and it will be better! And plus, no cages, so it will be easier.

I also pick their fave toys and make sure its an old one that smells like home. Its just better for their stress levels.

I also get a couple of gallons of spring water from walmart. Florida water is nasty to Alabama or other state dogs and it will get them sick. So I take own water! :)

I swear, Im not nuts! I just love my dogs! LOL

Thanks for the info. I was wondering about bringing water. Since they have a charge for bottled water, I didn't know if they'd let us bring it or not. My dogs gotta have Ala water, too. :thumbsup2

We pack everything into a suitcase; it's what my dds used to use when they were small. I just bought a couple of cheap, baby blankets from Target and I'm letting the dogs use them around here. I plan on taking them with us so the dogs have something that smells like home.

I'm wondering what kind of bedding they'll have for the dogs. My dogs are small so they usually cuddle on the bottom of our beds. Sometimes they get in my dds' old bassinet that I've converted to a dog lair, but I know it's too big to take.

Can't wait to see pictures.

When are y'all going?

I was wondering about the bedding too and the flooring. My smallest pom is oddly paranoid of floors. Lol he likes carpet!

Rascal has a little round bed so its not too big...the other 2 will lay on just about anything...as long as its carpet. I just wish it would of opened earlier so I could see pics and know what to expect! I'm kinda nervous silly as it may sound! Lol

That place better be good cuz I'm defending it on a link on FACEBOOK! Folks are downing it and being negative, and well...I'm having to throw my 2 cents in! LMAO!

We don't go til right before Christmas so I'm really interested in how you like it.

We've got a regular indoor/outdoor reserved so I bet we have concrete floors. That's the reason I'm really interested in the bedding.

Your reserving the suite aren't you? The suites that I've toured here in Bham were nice, but they all have tile floors. Just easier to clean. But they did have sofas and chairs for the animals to sleep on. Hopefully yours will have something similar. :)

Are you posting on the main page for the kennel over on FB? I saw it yesterday and after scanning about 100 comments, couldn't deal with it anymore. I did find it interesting that a Best Friends employee (albeit a disgruntled one) said the animals don't get all the extra stuff that's paid for. There's no way to know for sure.

Thanks for all the help.
:)

We're going in October and I'm trying to decide on whether to leave our doggies (3) at our local kennel...which is clean and safe but my oldest doggy stops eating if we leave her more than a few days, or take them with us to Disney. I really really want to take them to Disney but a few things that are keeping me from making that decision.
1)The cost....it's almost double if we put them in a Suite at Disney....although we could go cheaper and just reserve the standard room, I like the idea of them having a potty area of their own they can go out to. Do the Indoor/Outdoor kennels have that option?
2)How difficult is it going to be to leave the parks mid day and get to the new location? We take our car with us....but we ride the buses back and forth from the hotel to the parks, so leaving the parks and having to get our car at the hotel will not be something we can do twice a day.
3)Our youngest (a pomeranian) has some fear aggression. He hasn't bit anyone but he's 9 months old and quite fearful of most other adults :( they have many rules about aggression at the new kennel and I'd hate to cause any problems....he warms up pretty quickly to most people when we're not around though.

Hello Ratpack! Welcome to the thread! :)

Yes, the cost is quite high, but there are plenty of services to choose from, so maybe you can get the cost down. I would call them and ask If I were you. We always speak to Lenora and she hs great answers for questions! :)

About the transportation part of it, this is one part that IM NOT looking forward to! We too will have our own car and we will have to go back to the Poly, get the car and head to the kennel. Im sure it will be a pain, Im not sure yet. I was thinking about taking a bus to the closest resort, POR and walking, but not sure how close it will be. I will find out when we go and report back how that goes so everyone will be able to plan that.

And my oldest Pom (ANOTHER POM LOVER!) is very aggressive towards people, so I want NO extra services for him. We do the walking, feeding, etc. The staff knows not to touch or anything with him. So if you just have to tell the staff what you want and dont want and they will accomodate. :)

I will surely let you know how this is going to turn out! :)

My bad, forgot to answer your other question. LOL

Yes, we did reserve the suite. All 3 of my boys can stay in it together. Im happy about that. Costly, yes, but they are going to take some off for the services we dont use. The only thing I am wondering now is if the "patio" door will be open to them, or is it like a doggy door, or will the staff open it up for them. I will have to call and ask. :)

Not loving the tile floors tho! gggrrr...I hope its not! Max will not like that!

thanks :) We have a mini dachshund who's 10 and is quite unhappy when she doesn't see us for a day or two...she stops eating :( We have a Yorkie that is happy with anyone....he does love us but he's such a happy fellow that he'll gladly stay in a safe clean kennel and make friends with anyone who will let him. Our Pomeranian....well....I've already mentioned him LOL He's not 100% potty trained yet, he has fear issues and well....gosh, he's the baby so he's got a list of related issues LOL

Our kennel here locally is nice....but we don't get to see them while we're on vacation and that's just horrible, for us and them. We'll be gone for 10 days....that's a long long time to be away from us, the longest they've ever been away from us. So anyhow....I'm just worried to not take them but taking them worries me a bit too. The doggy door issue is another one I'd like to know when you get back too....if it's open to them so they can go out and in, that would be GREAT. If they have to wait on a human to come open it for them...well, they won't like that and potty breaks would be a problem too (we have doggy doors at home).

Can't wait to hear of your trip and how the transportation works out. I can't believe they wouldn't make it easier on guest to come and go to the kennel....that's going to be a big concern if you have to go back to the hotel and drive ever single time.

Aw weee! My yorkie's name is Rascal, and my 2 poms are Taz and Max..there pics are on previous pages. :)

Taz wont either unless we are there. Thats really aggravating too, so thats why we have to take them. My sister sometimes watches them, but well, thats another story. Lets just say she isnt happy everytime I ask her to watch them, and she is the only one I have to watch them. So, I have to take them. Which I dont mind, cause I do love them alot.

I agree, 10 days is a long time to go without seeing your babies! I will do a full report with pics so you will know what to do! :)

Does anyone know if the new rates are per night? For instance, if we drive in one morning and drop our dog off, he stays one night, and we pick him up late the next evening, is that going to be considered 1 night boarding or 2 days? :confused3

The rates seems pretty high, but they new kennel does give us a lot more flexibility for drop off and pick up times. At the vet, we'd drop our dog off the night before we leave and pick him up the day after we get home, so this is better for us...and him!

The new kennel isn't located directly across from Riverside resort. It's close, but not directly across. As you leave Riverside, you turn right and go about 70 yards. The kennel is on the other side of Bonnet Creek from the resort grounds. And keep in mind that if you park at Riverside you'll be walking down a busy resort entryway and will also have to walk along Bonnet Creek and then run across it to the other side. :scared1: It's a real pain that they don't provide any transportation to the kennel. It looks like they could have built the new kennel near one of the parks. We'll also be returning to our resort and then driving to the kennel. :surfweb:

Hi ther HLAuburn!
I believe check out time is like noon....but you can just pay for 1 day of day camp if he stays all day! So you will be paying for one night and 1 day. :)

Thanks for that info! We sure don't want to have to run across a busy street! We will just take our car to every visit! What a pain...but ya gotta do what ya gotta do! Lol

BEST FRIENDS PET CARE AT WALT DISNEY WORLD

They have great construction pics and info about the new "pet resort"!

Well, with the lack of transportation to and from the kennel I think we'll probably have to pass taking our furkids to Disney with us....and that really bites. I wish they'd built it closer to a park, or closer to some transportation stop.....I can't believe they are making it so difficult for resort guest to get to and from the kennel. Even though we have our car with us at Disney, with 5 children it would be way too much to head back to the resort every day, twice+ times a day and load up to head to the kennel. I hate leaving them back home though....they stress out too much when they don't see us.

What are the rules about coming back to the kennel during the day? I mean, if we didn't get to come back to visit them twice a day for meal times, we could atleast see them once a day....and that would be better than leaving them at home where they wouldn't see us for 10 days. Ugghhh, decisions decisions.

Im sure that you can go check on them through out the day still. LIke it was at the other kennels that BFPC operated. Which is great, cause my dogs have meal times as well and we feed them.

It is going to be a pain with the trans issue, but we have no other option. We are staying at the Poly and we will take our car to and from the kennel for visit times. That is going to take up alot of time, and if it is too aggravating, we will switch to POR! :lmao: I am wanting to see how close it is to the resort anyway.

Thank you for all the information. My parents are joining us on our trip and have a large dog, can the accomodate him at the Ft Wilderness kennels? He's a good boy but he really misses my parents when they leave him so this might be a great option for them while we are at Disney.

Hello! Im not sure if the FW kennels will still be open since today the new kennel has its grand opening! I know the park kennels are closing, but Im not sure about the FW. You may want to call 1 407 WDW PETS and ask them, unless someone else on this thread can answer that for ya!

Yep...that is true! We called Best Friends the other day and they WILL NOT have any transportation to the new kennel. So anyone who takes their pet will have to leave the park and drive to pick pet back up. But I will miss the TTC kennel...very very good location. :(

They are really sticking it to the Fort Wilderness folks that want to board their pets and don't have a seperate vehicle with them!!! Can you imagine how big of a hassle it is to unhook the motor home from the site 2 - 3 times a day just to transport their pet to/from the Kennel!!!

Is the kennel parking lot even big enough for a motor home???
