Update- from letter sent to Best Friends regarding fleas at Fort Wilderness

I received a response to my letter from the area manager for Best Friends Pet Care. This is a direct quote "The only explanation we can offer is the possibilities of exposure in the yard to the side of the kennel where Lucy was sometimes walked (we do not maintain this area, and it is backed up to the stables just behind the kennel), or on one of your stops on the way back home."

I appreciate that they wrote back but I still do not think we will be boarding with Best Friends again. I just do not think that if she picked up the fleas from one of our stops on the way home she would have been in such bad condition so fast. It is only an 8 hour drive and we didn't stop until 4 hours in. We have boarded at Disney several times before and are dissappointed that we no longer feel comfortable having her there as we really like to have her close by. She is a very important member of our family.

:scared1: :sad2: thanks for sharing that response....Has Lucy fully recovered? Poor baby

Im sorry to hear that. I am fully pleased with the staff at BFPC and it's not good when they get a bad review.

Although, it does make sense about the area of the stables. But i do know that one little flea bite will reek havoc on an animal! My cat Jasmine is so alergic that if one gets on her she gets these itching spells and then sores all over within 24 hrs! So she is on special flea treatments!

But most importantly, Lucy is ok and still a very important member of your family!:lovestruc

Good luck to Ms Lucy!

Bumping in case anyone needs some info or has anything to share on the new kennel opening up Aug 27th!

My dogs will be staying at the MK Kennel for the first time this weekend (for daycare only). My questions are:

Is there a sign to tell us how to reach the kennel by car, or do we just ask at the parking booth? (I have walked to the kennel from the TTC, but never driven up to it)

Also, after we drop the dogs off, how do we get BACK to the MK parking lot to park our car for the day?

Will it be easy to drive to pick the dogs up from the MK parking lot at the end of the day? (Trying to figure out how much time to allow)

Any help would be appreciated. Confused about the traffic flow around the MK.

I can help you (even though I'm not the OP) go through the MK toll booth farthest on the right hand side go STRAIGHT continue down until you see the turn on the LEFT hand side for the kennel. There is a sign. When you come out you will make a left then a right to head back from where you came. You'll see its easy

When you come out of MK you can walk over to the kennel and get your baby. He/She is allowed to ride the tram to your car. I did this for years and its less of a hassle at the end of the day rather then take the tram to your car & then have to drive to the kennel again. Most people did not care if the dog was on the tram but I always tried to sit in the rear or the front closest to the driver or the cm in the back...never was a problem.

Thank you for that info LUVCHEFMIC! Anytime you or any other pet parent can answer questions on this thread is great! We can all help each other! You gave very good info!

Dogs are allowed on the trams?

Dogs are allowed on the trams?

yes they are..I was trying to bring up a picture but photobucket keeps coming down on me....anyway I didn't know either until I asked ...moot point though in a few weeks they won't have a tram going to the new location

Yep...that is true! We called Best Friends the other day and they WILL NOT have any transportation to the new kennel. So anyone who takes their pet will have to leave the park and drive to pick pet back up. But I will miss the TTC kennel...very very good location. :(

We called BFPC and was trying to get some info on the WIFI that you will have when you get a VIP suite and they didnt have that info yet! They told me to call back on the 23rd.

The manager from the AK kennel told me that this one is supposed to be the BEST new state of the art kennel that Best Friends has in the country! We shall see if it passes MY test in a few weeks! I cant wait to get everyone pictures and to update this thread! :)

Hey Luvchefmic....did you ever get that pic up ? I am so wanting to see it! :)

lol! I hate when you are looking for one particular photo and you cant find it....that drives me nuts! ;)

very true, especially when you're trying to do a million other things in the course of the day..sometimes the time just flies doesn't it...I'll give you a shout when I found it though

I love the kennel at the TTC, and always feel comfortable keeping my little New ( a minnie Daushund) with the wonderful staff there. I don't think that the new kennel will be in our budget though with overnight boarding costing 37 a night so we are on the hunt for a local kennel to board him or a friend to keep him :sad1:

Im with ya on that. I loved the TTC Kennel. I know the new one is MUCH higher, and shoot, I have THREE dogs to board, but i know they wont be in a "cage" so I have a happy attitude about that. Its gonna cost me a SMALL FORTUNE to board them, but I have no choice!:scared1:

I hope you can find a friend to keep your baby!

Oh, good. I got that email from them this morning and I was worried about your ressie. I thought you were going at the end of Aug into Sept. Glad this still works for you.

So, are you packed yet? And BTW......what do you pack for the fur babies?
