I just booked my 6 month old puppy to stay at Epcot for 4 nights at the end of this month. First we were going to have a petsitter and it was too expensive. Then we looked into kennels near our home, again $40 a night for 2 weeks.

I also am not comfortable leaving her for so long without seeing us so we are taking her along on our road trip. Staying at LaQuinta's along the way.

After reading about the flea situation, I'm starting to freak out a little. Our dog is on k9 advantix. Will that be enough?
Also I'm just worried about boarding her in general.
Please talk me down!!
Thanks!

I was the one with the flea issues from Fort Wilderness in May and our dog has been on Frontline Plus for years and still came home covered in fleas. We had previously used the EPCOT kennel on several trips and always had positive things to say about them, I seem to be the only one here who has had that problem so I hope that it was an issue with another dog in the kennel and not a sign of the overall facility.

I remember you posting ...furbaby okay now ? Doxie isn't it? I haven't used the kennels since BestFriends took them over so I have no experience with them

Cuddletime $8 for 10 min
Walk & Explore $8 for 10 min
Bottled Water $5 per day
Bedtime Story $6 per story
Ice Cream Break $4 each

would someone really pay for this ...I mean really ? How would you know if the "kids" really got the service ?

Ruthie

I know for a FACT that my boys had the cuddle time and extra walks that I paid for. I would see the staff with my dogs when we would come for visits. I even saw them walking my yorkie from the monorail! So I know you get what you pay for!

As for ice cream treats...I don't know cause my boys are on limited diets!

You know I was kidding right ;) ? The prices seem a bit much for the extras....Maybe it didn't come across that way...sorry

I am wrong! Epcot does feed and walk your pet. Duh! Its on my very first page! Lol

First time boarding is stressful to pets and pet parents!
But if you start your baby early then that is good. She will be fine!
I'm sure you will have no flea problems...I think that one instance was a once in a blue moon thing. Just make sure you get all her shots including kennel cough!
If I'm not mistaken Epcot does not walk pets at all. You have to go 2 or more times a day. I will recheck that for you. Do you think the TTC kennel would be better since they do walk them and offer cuddle time?

Whichever kennel you chose...don't worry. Your baby will be in good hands. My boys always are and I'm FREAKISHLY over protective! Lol

LOL. No problem! I just try and keep everything positive for all the pet parents! :)

Alrighty then

thank you for that ! FWIW they should hire you!

I would so love that job! :)

Lol! Your baby would be in good hands! My little yorkie Rascal has been sick for 3 weeks....started out with an infection...then got pancreatitis...then got pneumonia. Finally after feeding him chicken and rice, giving him meds every 6 hours and eight trips to the vet WHILE recovering from a hysterectomy....I can handle any furbaby!!

No pet parent would would worry if I was in charge!

omg!!! Linda was THE BEST! That was back in the day too! She used to call my 2 poms THE FURRY BOYS...lol

She printed Taz and Max two certificates that said VIP PETS...(Very important pets!) Im betting yall got one..you must of had! :woohoo:

I even remember when the CM's wore the yellow and white button down shirts! Boy that was a while ago!

Great pic! Not hijacking at all....its of your fur kid and at the kennel! JUST WHAT THIS THREAD NEEDS!

I did call and make ressies for the new kennel for Labor Day. Found out it is 24 hours a day! Someone will be there AT ALL TIMES! Asked about if there was going to be a bus or shuttle to the kennel from the parks, but they dont know yet. That would be awesome if they did, but I highly doubt it.

This is something I would really have to think about. While I worry about my dog kids while we're away, I just cant see them being in cages all day. They arent like that at home. Then again, I would feel bad if I got "caught up" and wouldnt be able to go see them.
if we were to go on a trip I would have to look into our local kennels first to see what they offer. I have heard some of our local kennels have indoor/outdoor runs. I have 3 dogs and at $62 daily, that is pretty expensive and I still have to clean up after them when they go out on their own.
I think this choice is in the eye of the beholder. But it is a very nice option to have. Just goes to show that Disney has thought of everything.

Of course I remember Linda! Jim in the pic was retiring later that yr and there was another great lady there..I will have to search for her picture I'm sure you knew her too...I am kicking myself that I didn't follow up with keeping in touch with the old CMs before they moved on...so sad. We have a book full of those VIP certificates :)

The AK & FW kennel were also favorites of ours....really back in the day our now crossed over Doxie Baby used to go to the old MGM Studios kennel all the time & his picture was on their wall :) the CMs there were great too

A funny story re-Epcot kennel the photopass photographer & I were talking & he loved dogs too. We took Dillon out of the kennel & he took our picture with the EPCOT ball behind us it was truly a magical experience :)

They don't have to be in cages though all day long...Dillon the big guy pictured above was in an outdoor run at MK..I understand what you're saying about the cost. To me it would be an issue too...I have said before I have not used the WDW kennels since Disney no longer runs them so at the moment the only real objection I have with them is the future plan to shut them all & only have the one that is being built. I think it is going to be a major inconvienence to a LOT of people.

The part that is going to inconvience us is the transportation. Im assuming b/c WDW doesnt own the kennels, that there will be no transportation. But thats fine I guess...we will just have to drive. Yes, a headache, but ya gotta do what ya gotta do. LOL

I am going to call them today to ask about discounts. My 2 poms do not need the walks, or the playgroup or the bedtime snacks. Im going to ask if you purchase a certain package if they will do discounts for services you do not want. I hope so, cause Im already at 400.00 for 3 dogs! Which is 10.00 more per dog here in my small town for them to be put up in 3x6 cages at the vet. NO WAY JOSE! Not in a million years will I let that happen.

We measured out the 8x9 villa and boy, that is going to be huge! I cant wait to see the outdoor patio! Too cute! :)

I will keep yall posted! :goodvibes

ok, so called BFPC again today. Here is some info we got!

The VIP suite is going to be 16x9 with an outdoor run/patio. The employees will open the doors when needed.

The price for the first dog is 69.00 nite. (That is RESORT GUEST price). Then for the second or third dog to stay in the same suite you get 50% off that price. So basically, it will be 34.50 for any additional dog.

They will NOT give discounts for services you do not want. We told them we do not want the playgroup or the bedtime stories. (I would but my oldest Pom is not really people friendly!) They will however make up in some other way for the services you didnt get. Like an extra walk or treat.

The VIP suite includes 2 walks per dog, and snacks. They will NOT provide transportation at all. And they WILL close all of the other kennel locations.

They DO NOT give a discount for a regular AP, only a PREMIUM AP. Although, we got 2 different employees telling us different things, so don't quote me on that one!

When I know more I will post! :)

I just called two days ago to make resevation for my doggie at the Fort Wilderness Kennel and I didn't know that they are closing all the other ones and just having this one facility..and the prices have gone up :confused3

When are your ressies for? The new one will be open August 27th. The employee told my DH that the others will be closing. Maybe the FW one will stay open since that is a camping resort. I will have to check that out for everyone!

Update- from letter sent to Best Friends regarding fleas at Fort Wilderness

I received a response to my letter from the area manager for Best Friends Pet Care. This is a direct quote "The only explanation we can offer is the possibilities of exposure in the yard to the side of the kennel where Lucy was sometimes walked (we do not maintain this area, and it is backed up to the stables just behind the kennel), or on one of your stops on the way back home."

I appreciate that they wrote back but I still do not think we will be boarding with Best Friends again. I just do not think that if she picked up the fleas from one of our stops on the way home she would have been in such bad condition so fast. It is only an 8 hour drive and we didn't stop until 4 hours in. We have boarded at Disney several times before and are dissappointed that we no longer feel comfortable having her there as we really like to have her close by. She is a very important member of our family.
