A few months back there were some posts about a book to make for kids to help them with a disney trip. I had big plans, but time got away from me so I did something a little different. A woman I know online named Sue D has made boardmaker /pecs books for me before to help my boys with various skills and activities. She made a fantastic " I am going to Disney World " book for us after I told her some specific things we needed. I wanted to share a couple pages in case this would help someone here. I can give you her email addy. We used this to prepare for the trip as well as during the day.

There are pages on rides, shows, characters, riding the bus, noise/crowds, snacks/drinks, etc.

These are showing up kind of big and I can't figure out how to resize them--sorry.

Those are very nice!:thumbsup2
Were the PEC pictures attached with velcro circles, or something else?

As for the size, I visited your Photobucket album page and could not figure out anything about making them smaller. There probably is something on your user page that allows you to choose the size. I don't use Photobucket, so I can't tell you where to find it. The size is OK though on this thread - it's not like you have 20 big photos.

While I was on your album, I noticed a picture of your son. I wondered just when you were at WDW. We were recently there (Oct 12-Oct 23, 2008) and I saw a boy one night that looked very much like your son. I remembered the boy because he had such dark brown hair and such big brown eyes. He was also playing with a toy like your son has in the picture (the toy was one I had not seen before, and because of that, it attracted my attention.
If it was your family,:yay:

I added a link to the disABILITIES FAQs thread to both this thread and your thread about the Going on an Airplane PEC bookAir Travel Communication book you made for your child.

I think both of these are great and may help people with ideas for doing something similar for their child.

Thanks Sue! I used velcoins that you can buy in large quantities at Walmart. I really think preparing my son for the trip and giving him these choices helped. There are times I wanted to wait for something ( esp to see characters at MNSSHP) but he didn't want to wait since the waits were 45 minutes plus ( 90 minutes for the fairies) and this was a good way for him to tell me. No point in getting down a line only to have a meltdown and have to try to make our way out with the wheelchair. Also, I had lots of extra pecs for the book so I was able to change things to fit each day.

We were there Oct 21-28 so you could have seen us. We were at EPCOT on Oct 22 and MK on the 23rd. I used those mickey spinner toys to help him wait for parades and lines. This year they had a halloween globe spinner that he liked. I was also able to find 2 more of the clear mickey globe spinners. Since he puts them up to his face I need the globe ones and not the ones with the separate pieces that spin.

Hope you had a good trip!
