Turn OPRAH on!

I totally agree. The other part that bothered me was her sons closet with one red shirt. $300 daily in Starbucks, $4,000 in Hair Extensions, and $100 per day at the salon and the kid has one shirt!?!?!?

Okay, maybe it's just me but HOW do you spend $300 a day in Starbucks? :confused3

The husband's look on his face through the whloe show was priceless! He was so po'd he could not even look at her! I wonder if they will make it. I think Suze was to hard on him. She blamed him too much. Yes, he should have gotten insurance and been more aware, but the wife lied over and over and over!! He should have put his foot down with the b-day parties--a snow party! please! and a zoo party! Who does that? Suze said they only made like 65,000 a year! To me, that is not a lot for a family of 8!

It looked to me like the husband wanted a trophy wife and the wife was a gold digger. She says she wanted to stay home and be a mom, but it sounded like she just wanted to shop. I missed Suze's response to her. I can't believe this woman was selling new clothes for $1 at a garage sale. Did Suze discuss her shopping compulsion. The woman is mentally ill.

He grossed $100,000 per year. Sounds like a lot but it isn't--not in California. I live in the DC area and we pull down more than that and, no, we are almost living paycheck to paycheck.

Suze's advice for them to move was to get them out of that area that they were in--extremely high cost of living.

They were all out of control. If my spouse lied to me like that, I would have walked away and straight to a divorce attorney. It's inexcusable.

I agree about a household income of $100,000 not being much these days. Even here in the Orlando area it would be hard if not impossible to live in a 3/2 in a nice area (I'm not talking about a super luxurious area) making less than that. In the NYC metro area (including SW CT, downstate NY, and Central and Northern NJ), Washington DC and surrounding MD/VA, much of California, and some of TX, GA, FL, WA, CO and IL it would be very difficult to support a family living in a modest middle-income fashion on under $100,000.

$100k was a decent salary 10 years ago, but in the more expensive areas (like CA, NY, DC, and MA it's very average if not below average). Probably below.

Okay, I got to watch the show last night.

The second couple can correct what they have done. They realize their mistakes and I believe they will change.

I have to say one thing--I don't care if I'm Mrs. Gates--there is no way I will ever pay $900 for a pair of shoes--unless they are made of gold. How insane.

About the first couple:

The wife IMHO is a psychopath. She doesn't give two toots about her husband or kids. It's all about her.

One comment that was telling was "my mother was overbearing...I got everything that I wanted growing up..." huh? So in other words, you were a spoiled brat who's world evolved around you.

Suze really dropped the ball and contradicted herself. Even Oprah was speechless. What's the point of the show if you aren't going to tell blondie like it is?

Suze's speil about "it's not your fault that you don't love yourself, you are buying things as a substitute for love" is a bunch of hooey! Tell it like it is--you only care about you, you, you. Your kid's teeth can rot away, your daughter can get sick, but as long as you have money to spend on yourself, you don't care what's happening to the rest of the family.

The only *help* Suze gave to couple #1 was a new excuse/reason why blondie only thinks about herself and why she has caused her family to loose everything. :sad2:

The husband had to know what was going on. He buried his head, where I do not know.

I meant to say per month. That sure would be a lot of coffee huh?

$300 per month is still excessive I think.

$10 a day = 2 starbucks drinks a day. Seems doable but that is a LOT of coffee. Maybe she was buying for friends???

I think she was taking kids as well. It looked like they stopped at starbucks on the way to school so maybe she was letting the kids get their breakfast there.

She was buying Starbuck's for all her kids too. They showed them walking out with what looked like iced teas and those little bags with scones. I could see 6 kids and an adult spending $300 per month and maybe more if they were eating breakfast there too.

Does anyone know if you can view this anywhere online. Form the looks of Oprahs website I do not see anywhere to view past episodes.

Thanks

I couldn't believe she was getting cash advances on the credit cards to pay their bills. Yiiiiiiikes!! :scared1: Makes me realize that I don't have it so bad (I'm in CA also).

Can I ask how it is the husband carried no health insurance? Was it offered through his company? He turned it down? (this is for the first family)

Also, did the first family own their own home? (oh wait, someone said they did but each year would cost 20K more than the previous? How does that work?)

Probably an adjustable rate interest only loan. Their house of cards is about to tumble.

They didn't really say but I inferred from the show that he job must not have offered it because Suze's FIRST priority was for them to get the kids health insurance. The entailed the wife getting a part-time job at Starbucks. They would wait 90 days and then the family would be insured. I'm sure if the husband's current employer offered health insurance, Suze would have beat it into his head that he needed to participate in that.

I don't know why the husband did not have health insurance through his employer.

About their home, they had a mortgage of over $600,000, no equity and it is what they call a negative amortization mortgage.. Basically they are paying less than the interest and none of the principal. Why would anyone do that? The husband had to know that was a bad idea. So they are just digging a deeper hole at about $20,000 more a year.
