Torn between UPH and PHP passes.

We will be there from 1/29 - 2/6, but are leaving really early on Sunday morning. Right now, we are booked for 2/5 night at POR but considering swapping that to an airport hotel since there really isn't anything we can do in Disney on Sunday.

So we were considering a 7 night PHP with 4 bonus options. But when DH looked at it, the PHP would not get us into DisneyQuest, which he LOVES. And since we are staying at POR with the boat access, I think we'll be there a couple of times.

So we were considering UPH, to use at waterpark, sports complex, Pleasure Island, and DisneyQuest.

But I don't want to buy an 8 night UPH since I feel we will be wasting that Sunday.

So, should I book the airport hotel and get the 7 night 8 day UPH or stay at POR and just get the 7 night 8 day PHP and then pay extra for DisneyQuest?

I am leaning towards the UPH but wanted some other opinions!

Usually, if you purchase the UPH at check-in, they will let you drop the first or last day so you don't pay for a day that you can't use.

I believe that if you're buying the UPH at your resort, you have the option of dropping the first or last day.

Please note that all of the prices below include taxes.

In order to purchase UPH passes in advance (and get a price break), I believe you would have to call central reservations and link the passes to your room reservations. The down-side to doing this is that under your current reservation you would actually have to purchase a 9-day/8-night pass, with a price of around $410/$328 for adult/child. If you wait and purchase your tickets when you arrive, you can buy a 8-day/7-night pass, dropping the last day. This would only save you a couple bucks because the spread between the advance purchase price and the front-gate price is fairly large.

If you decided to stay off-site your last night, I think you could advance purchase a 8-day/7-night pass for $380/$304 for adult/child. These would be good from midnight on the day you check in (1/29) until midnight on the day you would check out (2/5).

7-day PHP passes are advertised on officialticketcenter.com for $317/$252 for adult/child. A single day ticket for DQ is $34/28, so that would get you up to $351/280, which is only $20-30 less than the 8-day/7-night UPH. To me, this is a short price to pay for the additional convenience offered by the UPH. Of course, you most likely would end up with a couple left over "pluses" on your PHPs if you went that route, but I don't think that is a difference maker.

If you don't mind a little extra jockeying around, I would drop your last night at POR and stay off-site. We did this last year and it really wasn't too bad - we simply packed one bag as an "overnight" bag when we packed up, then we checked out of our hotel, went to the park, and then checked into the off-site hotel later that day.

DCMB, thanks, that is exactly what I was thinking.

The convenience of the UPH pass would be worth more, I think, to DH and I.

Would it be possible, to drop the night, get the 7 night UPH, and then later add on the last night? or would that bump us up on the UPH to the 8 night one?

Do you go to Disney often? An AP is $379 plus tax. Sure its more money but its good all year long. Maybe you could squeeze in another trip or two within the next year before it expires.

Just a thought.

Thanks Shirley,

I checked out the AP option, but unfortunatley this will be our only trip this year and possibly for a while. But we do say that everytime!

Regarding APs, just remember to compare apples-to-apples - the AP does not include the water parks, DQ, PI & sports complex - so, if you do end up thinking about APs and these attractions are important to you, you have to look at the cost of the PAP, which is $531 for an adult (tax included).

In terms of your question, I'm not really sure...I think what you're asking is whether you can change your hotel ressie to drop the night of 2/5 and order your 7-night/8-day UPH and then make a separate ressie to add back the night of 2/5. Conceptually, it seems possible but you may not be able to work it so that you can stay in your same room. Ultimately, the $20-25 you'd save per pass might not be worth all of the gyrations.

What I would suggest is to call up central reservations and ask them about your options for purchasing the UPH.

Although of course your mileage may vary, I've found the "duration of stay" more of a soft rule than anything else. The CM's definately have the power to override it, and it's really in their best interest to do so. It's because, as was pointed out above, you could make two concurent ressies and get around it.

I'd call CRO and see what they can do - explain the situation. I bet if you ask them, "Is the rule to only get it for the length of stay" then they will of course say yes, but if you play ignorant of that rule and try to make get the UPHs that you want and explain why I bet you will get somewhere. It's not dishonest...no more than them not telling you they can do it in the first place, or that they deny things like "bounce back" passes even exist. :)

If that fails, I definately know people who have done this at check-in. If it comes down to you buying a cheaper pass and them selling you any form of the UPH, they usually will accomodate.

Good luck!
