Trying to decide on a new P&S

Looking for some advice.... I currently own a Canon Powershot SX110IS, but lately it's been having issues (shutting down with error message: lens error).
So, I decided it's time to get a new camera. Looking for a good, easy to use P&S. My current camera has 10X optimal zoom, but I never use that. The new camera doesn't have to be tiny, but I'd like it to be no bigger than my current camera. l deifnitely want it to be faster than my Canon - when taking pictures inside it takes seconds for the camera to be ready again after I've taken a picture.

I have done some research and I think I have narrowed it down to the Sony RX100 and the Lumix L7.... Out here I can get the RX100 for €519 and the L7 for €369. Have a hard time figuring out what the difference is between the two (apart from the price).

So what do you all think? Is the RX100 worth the €150 more (for an amateur photographer like me:) )?

Have ya looked at the Canon EOS M? Well within your range, and an excellent camera. I don't know anything about the two you've looked at, but just wanted to throw the EOS M out there. :)

I just picked up a canon eos m and I'm really impressed with it. If you get it with the 22mm pancake lens its very compact.

It wasnt a deciding factor but as a bonus this thing's got the guts to take serious video, including external stereo mic. jack.

Bhphoto has them at a good price (about $300).

I had also narrowed it down to either the LX7 and the RX100. I ultimately chose the RX100. The LX7 uses a lens cap and I figured for my point and shoot I didn't want to deal with a lens cap. I know that they have rubber caps that can open and close when the lens extends and retracts but I didn't feel like it would offer much protection in my pocket. I know the LX7 has a faster lens but I also wanted the larger sensor that is on the RX100. I wrapped my RX100 in a non-Sony (Mega Gear found on Amazon) leather snap close case and added a better wrist strap. It fits in my cargo pockets very well. It's a little too big for pockets in my jeans but I take it with me whenever I want pictures but don't want to bring my DSLR. I think it takes quality photos and I have been very happy with it.

The biggest factor in camera pricing is the sensor. That's why full frame dslrs are $2000+ -- the massive sensor.

The rx100 sensor is about three or four times the size of the lx7 sensor. Leading to better low light performance and better image quality.

The lx7 is a very very good small sensor camera.
The rx100 is a medium sensor camera in a compact body.

Excellent Choice! I would also recommend the charger and two batteries on Amazon for 19 dollars or so... Nice to have a charger and the batteries work well also. I also recommend two 32 gig cards if possible. I also went to a hardware store and got an o-ring to make the strap sizeable. A very small rubber ring to slide over the strap and make it adjustable.
