Transportation to and from Universal

I am thinking of visiting Orlando in November this year and staying at the Sheraton Four Points Universal City hotel.

There are some transportation questions that are keeping me up at night.

First off, does anyone know about this hotel and its shuttle service to the parks? If I was to visit MK and go to MVMCP while staying a good fifteen miles away would it be safe to take a taxi back to my hotel alone late at night? Can you pay by credit card for a taxi or do I need to carry cash?

Also, I maybe be able to book at the Swan or Dolphin if rates become available and have looked at Mears to transport to Universal, but can not find out how much or locations.

I am spoiled to have stayed on site and never had the urge to visit Universal so I am concerned about traveling alone. Plus a good family friend had a very bad experience in a cab in Mexico City so I am a bit leary to get in any, though I am sure they are much safer in Orlando - I hope.

Don't know about the Sheraton's shuttle service - if nobody answers here, maybe try asking on the Universal board?

Taxi from the TTC back to the Sheraton would be 100% safe. Mears is the official taxi of Walt Disney World, and the only company allowed general pickups onsite. This doesn't mean you couldn't call another cab company, but why? The rates are all the same... or should be. ALWAYS use a cab with a meter, and make sure the meter is operating. They do accept credit cards; confirm with the driver before entering the cab that his processer is working, otherwise move on to the next cab. There will be plenty.

Mears shuttle from a Disney resort to Universal, about $20 round trip. Locations are directly from your hotel to your destination, i.e. you don't have to get anywhere to meet the shuttle. I know you can dial the Operator from your Disney resort room and just ask to be connected to Mears; I would guess with the Swan/Dolphin, you'd have to dial the call yourself, the number would be in the phone book.

Thank you answering.

I feel better knowing that I don't have to bring a wad of cash to pay for a taxi with me everywhere. And better that I won't have any safety troubles. I have only been in cabs in Amsterdam and Venice, with others, and never alone or since my friend had trouble.

Most of my concerns are alleviated. All I need to know is what times the shuttle runs and I can call the hotel directly for that.

Now, if only I could stay at the Dolphin on the wanted dates in November for as cheap as the Universal hotel.
