Day 2--- HollyWeird... as Sea calls it.
(Um........He's not joking)
Day 2 involved us getting up early and getting ready for our trip to Hollywood.
As you may or may not know about me--- I have always wanted to come to Hollywood. I've had this vision in my mind of what it's supposed to be like, look like, feel like, taste like for forever.
We decided that Sunday would be our best day to go- and break up the DL park days into Saturday and Monday- hoping the crowds would be less on Monday than on Sunday.
We got into our little rental car and rode over a couple of streets to the Grand Californian for another breakfast. When we pulled up front, they told us that we'd have to go back across the street and park in the Paradise Pier parking lot. Ummm. okay- back out to find our way around and around. Took us a good 15 minutes to do it and get parked.
Saw construction of the new DVC area- it looked beautiful.
Went in to the same little area as the day before and got muffins and coffee.
Once we were finally on our way-- it was later than we'd wanted it to be- but my mission for the day was to relax.
I forgot in my crazy desire of relaxation that we had to drive on the freeway.
Sea- you will appreciate this more than anyone...
How A slow Southerners drive on the freeway resulted in having to take a valium.... by Jo
Mark can drive anywhere. ANYwhere. He learned to drive in Europe. He's driven on the autobahn- as a teenager. He's driven us across 6 lanes of traffic in New York City, blowing the horn and cussing like a sailor or maybe a taxi driver-- in order to make a right hand turn from the left hand lane.
We got on the freeway-
and
I
was
scared
to
death.
There are, oh somewhere in the neighborhood of a thousand people all around you, all at once, all going a hundred miles an hour, all switching lanes and threatening to kill you all at the same time.
It is terrifying.
No wonder all of those stars out there have drivers.
That picture really looks like it's a nice slow, Easy Like Sunday Morning drive in the park.
Somewhere on that road, I left my heart- b/c it opens up to... um... 7 or 8 lanes of traffic, all going in the same direction with 7 or 8 lanes on the other side of the road going in the other direction. Be still my heart. Give me a valium. Never mind, give me two valiums and let me chase it with some Xanex and whiskey.
Some scenes--
Mr Demille, I'm ready for my close up now.... Love that movie!!
Here's where we got off, I think!
So we got off, went two lights or so down- doing whatever it is that the GPS told us to do...
when we stopped at a light that was next to a gas station.
And in that gas station was a sight that I will never ever get out of my mind. It was the beginning of me seeing the reality that is Hollywood.
There was this man- very dirty, very poor- homeless to be sure, - very sad--- being jacked up by five policemen up against a car.
I sat there not being able to speak. I've never seen anything like it before. the brutal force they were using on this poor soul- who, I'm sure was not innocent- but looked like he could barely stand up from what they were doing to him. I had visions of Rodney King in my mind. Mark grabbed my hand and forced me to look at him to get me out of that ugliness that was staring me in the face. He tries ever so hard to shelter me from the World's horrible reality- he knows I hold things such as that in my head and heart until I ache.
The light turned green and he got out of there as fast as he could, talking to me the whole way---
we finally got to where we wanted to be -
On one side--
On the other-
Went to the parking garage and walked thru- to get to the street.
Here's what I never understood, and bet you who have never been to Hollywood also thought--
The Kodak theater- when you see it all blocked off for Awards shows with the red carpet- and Limos up front--it is right next to Mann's Theater. And El Capitan is right across the street! I always thought they were possibly close to one another, but never thought they were that close.
There are actors portraying characters out front so you could get your pic taken with them. Captain Jack followed me down the street and Mark made me cross the road really fast. He was scary-- and not in a good way either.
From across the street-
