These Are The MAYS of our Lives- The MAYers, Part VI

Jo - Love the report. It is so much more "downtownish" than I really thought Hollywood would be, especially around the theatres.

You do such an excellent job describing everything!

Is it snowing there? On the radio they said it was snowing in NW AR.

And Jo that was just driving on a quiet Sunday morning on our wonderful freeways. Can you imagine what is like during the week? :lmao:

Did you get go into the Disney Soda Fountain? Did you see the Hollywood sign?

Love the picture of the Whiskey.

Glad to hear that Hollywood - lived up to your expectation of weirdness.

You should have had lunch in Beverly Hills!

WooHoo - My hometown - Santa Monica!

Thanks for sharing! - Sea

Great fireworks shots Jo!!! Glad to hear that you had a good meal at Naples in DTD and a nice evening at the movies with Mark.

NC--- It's not snowing yet, at least not here.
I thought Hollywood would be much more glamorous-- I had built it up so much in my mind. I was very happy to have gone, but I saw some other things that bothered me so much that I didn't describe here that I don't know if I'd want to ever go back again. Disneyland, yes. "Hollywood"- no.

Sea------ I took that SM pic b/c I had you in mind!!!!!:goodvibes I wished we could have gotten off there and looked around, but we just really had such a limited time.
We did decide to go to hollywood on Sunday, knowing that the traffic would be a lot better on that day than monday. If I'd of had to deal with all of that as well--- I would've needed a crash cart to revive me.
Lunch there------ we didn't know where to go. Look at this pic---

We were going to turn around to go here- whatever that place was- but somehow couldn't find a spot to turn around- so we just thought we'd keep going. Loved all of those cars out front.

That's Clafoutis in West Hollywood on the Sunset Strip. It is a French/Italian place - tasty food. You should have stopped there and had the escargot. LOL!

Yes, I love those Lamborghinis! BTW, look at your side mirror...ha ha.

Sea

I do not eat slimy, squishy, tentacle-y things, Sea... don't you have a user's guide to being Jo's friend??:rotfl2:

Those peeps in the side mirror? yeah- they're not from around there either and are scared out of their minds too.:lmao:

NC - Hollywood is more of an "area" than an actual city nowadays. The production studios, the theaters, the talent agencies are all spread out all over many towns in the Los Angeles County area. That two block area (Kodak, El Capitan and the Chinese Theater) that Jo visited is what I call the "concentrated version" of Hollywood past. It gives the casual tourist a quick taste of Hollywood.

No doubt there is a lot of Hollywood history and stories in our area that you can still see and visit. It just takes some time and knowledge to get there.

Dang, my copy must be missing the chapter, "Things that make JoBird Barf". :lmao:

Ha ha and he is using her as his shield!!

I can't decide if he is hugging her or giving her the Heimlich Maneuver. You may not have wanted to eat there after all!

:rolleyes1

No snow for us today. The kids have school. I had a flat tire while taking them to school in my PJs. :sad2: Thank goodness for UGGs and long coats. The guy from roadside assistance told me he hope I feel better soon! The kids got a ride with a friend of mine!

I saw on TV that you guys are STILL out of school. What up? :confused3 Is is really that bad up there?

Sea - I think I had envisioned the Kodak theater or Chinese Theater as being more of an arena type of place with massive parking all around it. It was just very different than what I had in my mind. It is so amazing that all of those are so close or "concentrated" as you said. Almost more like New York (to me at least!)

Very educational! I like it!

Thanks guys!

Wow, you have been watching the travel channel with Jo Bird and special commentator Seacrest Promo!

Good morning MAYers! Just home from WalMart and the grocery store. Sure is cold out there. And we are to get 3-5 more inches of snow tonight.

Great TR JO! :goodvibes Thanks so much for sharing. I really expected Hollywood to be more glamorous too. :confused3 Beverly Hills looks awesome. I think I would like to visit there and Santa Monica, if I ever make it to the area. Did I see Star Wars Storm Troopers in that one picture across the street? I'll have to show the boys!

Sorry about the flat tire NC! That stinks! And in your pj's no less. :sad2: Hope you are feeling better.

Did you wear your PJs to Walmart? :rolleyes1

Morning!

I'm working on another installment of the DL TR! I have nothing else to do- the kids are still PJ's--- we have ice all over the roads- it's pretty bad out there. Mark had a hard time getting out of driveway this morning.

NC--- oh that is just awful you had a flat- in your PJ's to boot!!! How terrible!

Shelly--- yep- storm troopers out there! We saw Captain Jack, Darth Dude, the storm troopers, Mr Incredible, a terrible looking Mickey Mouse, Charlie Chaplin, the Pin Head scary dude, Freddy, Jason, MICHAEL MYERS- ( I admit it- I was scared he was after me) and some other people that I can't remember right now. They were all actually really creepy and gave you a weird feeling. They all were dirty looking and .... IDK--- you just didn't have a good feeling when you were around them.
If we ever get back there, I will be sure to get in touch with Sea so that we can get the GOOD tour. :goodvibes There are other things I'd like to see- the Mission- is that what it's called??? And we never did see the Hollywood sign. Beverly Hills was really nice- I could've spent more time there.

Okay- back to working on the TR!:)

Jo

YAY another installment is on the way! :cool1: I need to work on another installment too. I'd like to get the TR wrapped up soon. I feel like I have been writing forever.

Hmm. . . dirty Storm Troopers and dirty Michael Myers. . . :scared1: You must have been scared out of your mind!!! :rotfl:

I really expected sunny CA to be um. . . more sunny. The skies looked more like overcast PA!

So we started this day again, up early. Mainly b/c we were still operating on Central time, so by the end of the day, we were pretty much exhausted.

We actually got to the park when it was just about ready to open this time, instead of going first thing and getting coffee.

We decided to stop and get coffee at the little bakery on the way in on Main Street. I wanted to take advantage of there being no one in the parks that early- and take as many pics as possible. This could take awhile, I have more than 4 to show you. (SHELLY!!!!;))

Rope Drop--- they don't do a whole show-- it's just a countdown and then they let you in-

Fantasyland!

Let me add to my TR- that all of those pics were in sequence, what you would see if you were walking from the entrance of Frontierland, around the side of BTMRR and around the back of it towards Fantasyland on the back pathway.

I'm trying to do all of the pics that way so you guys can get a sense of "walking" the park.

:goodvibes

NC - The parking lot is huge there - it is all underground and it is massive - built right next door to the subway station. Did you see the subway station there Jo? The subway goes all the way east to downtown LA and out to the valley ending at the entrance to Universal Studios. - This has been your host, Huell "Seacrest" Howser.

Sea - I think I had envisioned the Kodak theater or Chinese Theater as being more of an arena type of place with massive parking all around it. It was just very different than what I had in my mind. Jo - I agree with you a 100% those "actors" around the Chinese Theater are quite strange. Basically, they are just trying to make a buck for a picture taken with them.

You could have seen the Hollywood sign by going up to this viewing area that I circled on the picture. Bummer that you missed it!

Next time, you will get the "Elite, Luxurious and Fun Los Angeles Tour" by my wife and I. And that invite also goes out to my Mayer friends too.

Great photos of Frontierland empty! Wow, so nice and quaint. That picture of that tunnel and pond used to be part of an old original attraction, the Mine Train Ride. Excellent job!
