SNOW!!!!!

We didn't get it for christmas, but Ethan's getting it as a birthday present.

Jo...love your TR and pics. It helped me kill some time while the cake was baking.

YAY Lake! Birthday Snow!!!!!:cool1::cool1:

Tell Ethan I said Happy Birthday and that Birthday Snow is special, b/c everyone experiences Christmas snow, but only those certain people ever get Birthday snow.

I got it too this year.:goodvibes

Sea---- ooooowwwwwwwww, you made my head hurt with your Hollywood sign. I was so close. But you know what- it was so very smogggy that day-- do you think I still would've been able to see it?? How close are you from standing there to the sign? We took the next block down back towards the hills-- looking up b/c I was sure that I'd see it somewhere around there.
:)
I was wondering also about that tunnel in the back by BTMRR. I thought it might have been that ride. Do you remember going on it as a boy? Could you tell us about it? It's always intrigued me.:goodvibes

So we were walking from the back of BTMRR, down the path towards Fantasyland- there's a bit of a gate like structure- and you come around it and there it is--- a quaint little village, right out of the Fairy Tales---

There wasn't a line- and realized from the other park day that if we wanted to ride the Bobsleds- we had to do it early. There are two lines for the ride, one of them is in Fantasyland, the other is in another place- and Sea can tell you where b/c I don't remember. I don't think that a lot of visitors realize there are two lines b/c one of them (I don't remember which one) is usually shorter than the other.
So-- with that, we went thru the non existant queue...

I'm not sure what I was expecting with this ride- I think I thought it was going to be a lot faster than it actually was. It was fun- and very tame for little ones who are used to thill rides.

I didn't know what it entailed beforehand, but we went on the Storybookland boats--
they were very cute, little itty bitty villages- think doll houses- of all the Princesses. You just went slowly past them. I think girls would like them; little boys might think it's boring. I did read afterwards that this is an original attraction, so it holds a speical place in many hearts.

Silly girl, that is not smog, that is just the marine layer that comes in over the night time and burns off as the day gets later. California car emission laws are the toughest in the US. We haven't had a smog alert in years. I think the last one was in 1997. The only time the air gets horrible now is when we have a fire.

Yes, you could have seen the H sign, it is only about a 1/2 mile away. Acutally you can see it from the El Capitan by looking up through the Hollywood/Highland center. It was built to showcase the sign. Did you notice the elephants? Remember the entrance to Hollywood Backlot DCA?

Yes, I went on the "Mine Train Through Nature's Wonderland" ride many times when I was a kid. It was kind of like the Jungle Cruise, but on land. There were a lot of sight gags and such. What was really cool was the Rainbow Caverns, where there was a waterfall of different colors.

Check out this video at 3:13 - there you will see the tunnel you photographed. The jumping fish animatronic is still working in that pond today!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1HmcOtx_28U

There was also a stage coach ride and mule ride that went through the ride area. It was a great area to visit and explore. I probably still have my Davy Crocket coonskin hat somewhere at my parents home that we got in Frontierland.

Wow, Fantasyland without a ton of people scrambling all around you - so nice! Glad you got to ride on the Matterhorn too! I haven't been on the Storybookland Ride in years. Crazy isn't it? You got some nice shots there.

SEA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That is the most awesomest video!!!!

That is exactly what I've always wanted to see --- something that showed me exactly what it entailed.
Wow- I am astounded at how much it has changed-- I was wondering about the little "town" that is where the line for BTMRR goes to- I thought it must have somehow been involved with all of that.

How absolutely cool.

Thanks so much for posting a link!

I was wondering why those elephants looked so familiar! :rotfl2: I wish we would've known to look more carefully.

Sorry about the "smog"--- what do you guys call it? Like on the radio-- when it's heavy? Like here, they say it's foggy.

Jo

Glad you liked the video. :D

Yea, it has changed a lot - and it is going to change some more in that area in the next couple of years.

No worries about the "smog" thing. It is called a "marine layer" - here is more info:

In the case of coastal California, the offshore marine layer is typically propelled inland by a pressure gradient which develops as a result of intense heating inland, blanketing coastal communities in cooler air which, if saturated, also contains fog. The fog can last until midday when the heat of the sun is frequently strong enough to evaporate it. This phenomenon is especially common in the late spring and early summer, where it is locally referred to as "May gray" or "June gloom." An approaching frontal system or trough can also drive the marine layer onshore.

A marine layer will disperse and break up in the presence of instability such as may be caused by the passage of frontal system or trough, or any upper air turbulence which reaches the surface. A marine layer can also be driven away by sufficiently strong winds.

It is not unusual to hear media weather reporters discuss the marine layer as synonymous with the fog or stratus it may contain, but this is erroneous. In fact, a marine layer can exist with virtually no cloudiness of any kind, although it usually does contain some. The marine layer is a medium within which clouds may form under the right conditions, not the layers of clouds themselves.

Good morning MAYers!

Sent my babies out in a nasty cold snowstorm this morning. No cancellations or delays here. Well, there are lots around us, but not us. I think most of the Pittsburgh schools are closed. Lots in eastern OH are delayed. But off we went!

Another great update JO! :thumbsup2 Fantasyland looks awesome, like a nice little village. Loved the storybook boats, looks like a neat ride. So the matterhorn bobsleds aren't that fast?? I would expect them to be fast too. That has always been at the top of my list for DL, whenever I get there!

Morning My MAYers--

It's so cold outside--
how cold is it, you ask? Um, -2.

No school, of course.:) That's a whole week we're going to tack on at the end of May when school should be out.

This morning I'm meeting two of my friends with their kids at a jump zone so they can get some of their restlessness out of them.:yay: Cabin Fever has set in.

I'll be back later on to try and do a TR continuation--- I still have tons of pics left to share, including some from Laguna Beach- if anyone is interested in seeing it.:goodvibes

Shelly-- the Bobsleds are indeed slow. I thought it would be more of a BTMRR speed, and maybe it was- I know that even BTMRR is pretty slow, considering other rides out there- and maybe the bobsleds get faster as the day goes on-- It was cold that morning. But, yes, it was slow and not at all what I thought it would be like.

I guess people who have gone to WDW a lot have certain preconceived ideas about how things are out in DL. Just as those who go to DL and then go to WDW do as well.
Things are never are what you've imagined in your mind-- good and bad!:goodvibes

Okay- gotta go- y'all hold down the fort while I'm away.:snooty:

Jo

Good morning MAYers. :goodvibes

I haven't been able to see your pictures of DL yet Jo - but the report is great so far! Thanks for finishing it!! :woohoo:

Thanks for asking about Paul. He is doing OK for the moment. I called my aunt last night and she said that the procedure didn't work, the medication isn't working - and they have him on morphine and sedatives to keep him relaxed. They are going to try a few more medications so they don't have to do surgery again - but they don't know what's going to happen.

Thanks for the prayers everyone. :grouphug: They are definitely appreciated.

Happy Friday Mayers - Woo Hoo! So glad it is here!

Same old boring sunshine and blue skies here again.

Has anyone seen my sunglasses? :cool1:

Hi everyone! Hope all is well in Mayerland.

 I'm not feeling this guy today. I'm feeling more like this one- :faint:
We got a couple inches of snow here overnight and schools are closed. Not sure the reasoning on that one since DS's school is on our road and it was clear by 7am. :confused3 I was expecting a delay but not a closure. DS was happy to have the day off though and I'm happy to have him. :cloud9:
All of my day care kiddos came late because of the weather which means that they all slept in late at home which makes for a rough naptime. They are all bouncing around wild and loopy, only one is showing signs of being sleepy. The 2 in the portable cribs are using the rocking chair between the cribs to play peek a boo- quite cute for the first couple minutes but now it's worn off. Go to sleep.
At least it's Friday!!!! That and I keep reminding myself that exactly 2 weeks from now I'll be on I95 half way to Disney World!:woohoo:

Jo- I love the report of Hollyweird and I do have to agree on the nickname. Never been there but by the looks of it- weird is fitting.
RF- Hope they can find something that works soon. I'll keep him in my prayers.

Mari- I loved that video! I watched it and teared up and then showed it to my kids. They are SO excited that we are going back! Thanks for making my day! Now I feel like this guy-

Hi everyone..

Be careful what you ask for I guess... with all the snow we had yesterday, Jason's brother and sister and their families didn't want to brave the weather and didn't come over for dinner and cake. So needless to say we will be having leftovers for a while. Tomorrow is Ethan's birthday party with his friends so I will have another cake to make then.
Jillian Michaels will have to kick my butt on the Wii, in order to work off all this chocolate cake.

It was still snowing this morning, but no school closures here.
Buses are running as well.

:)

RF - Sorry to hear surgery didn't work. I hope the doctors find a solution soon. He and your family are in our thoughts and prayers. - Sea
