HAPPY NEW YEAR!!
Traditional southern "New Year's Day" dinner for us -
Pork Roast
Sauerkraut (cabbage)
Hoppin' John (w/ blackeyed peas)
New Potatoes
Turnip Greens
and French Bread (instead of corn bread because I didn't realize we needed cornmeal & 2014 is going to be the year of "It doesn't have to be perfect, Wendy!")
And donuts for dessert!
Welcome to all the new folks!
This morning we had a layered ham and cheese strata, a traditional New Year's Day breakfast item for us. We ate it in bed while we watched the Rose Parade.
I'm making brownies right now and dinner will be Philly Cheesesteak sandwiches with the Prime Rib slices leftover from Christmas Day Dinner.
Dinner tonight was a small steak with microwaved vegetables (I got the frozen variety and was too lazy to boil a pot of water); and a chicken sausage. No carbs and no added sugar that I know of.
We made some lentil burgers for DH.
I've been enjoying my time off. I wish I had an extra week. Oh well. Back to work next Tuesday.
Hello to you all
Tonight I had spaghetti bolognese which was a bit boring really ( can job )
I had to work late & my wife Ally was working till 11pm tonight
I get a night off cooking tomorrow lol as I get to pick where we go for birthday tea ( oops dinner ) Lol
Yay a long weekend !
On Sunday it will be the beach side festival in a nearby town ( about 15 minutes away ) of Port Macdonnell
There will be lots of people / tourists & food carts around for the day - should be fun !
So have any of you tried Bob's Red Mill Muesli? We ate Muesli every morning on the cruise and I wanted to try and make it but it is much cheaper to buy it....

Happy New Year my dear friends!!
Nan ~ Moonshiner and wings - girl you just make me laugh. We really are cut out of the same cloth. That would so be Doug and I!!
Pumpkin Pancakes sound wonderful, do they have lots of spice in them?
Ellen - I'm getting back to normal on Tuesday. I'm sure I'll enjoy it then; but right now, I'm really enjoying the holiday feeling.
Brandi - We've been having a bit of meat (leftovers) since Christmas. Even DS asked for a meatless meal yesterday.![]()
I am enjoying the holiday too. It has been a welcomed break, and I love it!
WE have entertained a bit during the Holiday, and I have cooked prime rib several times, the last on Christmas, It was delicious, but I am so sick of it! I also cannot look at roasted pork either, so I am a little embarrassed. Tomorrow Buddy's boss and his wife are coming to dinner, and I am making spaghetti and meat sauce, and sausage. They go all out for us, but I think if I have to eat any more red meat, I will faint! They wanted to go out for pizza, but every time we go with them, they insist on paying, and while I am happy they want to be nice to us, it is not right. Jeannie loves the fireplace, so it will be cozy here and we'll have plenty to eat, and some good wine, and beer.
Hope that your dinner went well. And yes, I agree. It's not right when one party insists on paying all the time. Friendships should be two-way streets. Dinner tonight was noodles. A very simple meal. I just blanched some bean shoots, heated up the Hokkein noodles by blanching them in boiling water; and made a sauce with shrimp, stock, oyster sauce and soya. Poured the shrimp and sauce over the noodles and bean shoots. Simple.
