The Official DIS Oscars LIVE Watch Party Thread! The Afterparty continues. . .

Upcoming projects that Will Smith expected to complete have now officially halted as a result of the now-infamous Oscars slap. The Netflix film “Fast and Loose” and Sony’s highly anticipated movie, “Bad Boys 4” have both been put on hold, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Netflix and Apple TV both pulled out of bidding on his biopic also.

I thought for a minute you were talking about this Apple+ project, but it's a different one:

According to the Hollywood Reporter link above: "Smith has Apple+’s slave escape drama Emancipation in post-production. The streamer had planned a 2022 debut but has not dated its release. Apple declined to comment."

So that's four productions so far.

Crazy how a bad spur of the moment decision can change everything.

Trevor Noah did a great job hosting. He kept it moving and was pretty funny. Maybe he can host the Oscars next year.

And Smith should face repercussions, he committed battery. His career might not be ruined but it's never going to be the same now. And imagine all the other people who are now out of jobs and income because his projects are getting shelved. All for what? I'm really curious as to what made him decide that he needed to do that when there was no reason he couldn't have just talked to Rock about it after the show.

I think it was not a decision, it was an emotional or, probably even deeper, a biological response.
I could characterize it as animalistic behaviour without reason.

Or, if Jada has brainwashed him so well, a psychological response. If he didnt do something, his reprocussion at home might be worse (in his mind).

No, it was a decision and his choice. We all make decisions in our lives...this is nothing even close to what some would call a crime of passion. He made the decision to do this.

Another thought: why didn't Jada make any attempt to grab Will when he got up? We all know our spouses, and if he was charging up to the stage, she didn't even stand, call out his name....nothing.

The video showing her from behind, (from what we could see) showed she didn't even turn her head to look at him when he was yelling at Chris.

Whoa! World War 3 has begun. Chris Rock may not be speaking, but his brother Tony, who is also a stand up comedian, lobbed some fierce comments about the Pinkett Smiths. :furious: :duck: :furious: TMZ says he referred to what many people have said here, that Will is a whipped dog and he was humiliated by Jada when she told everyone about her affair. Tony also made a Tupac reference, knowing how Tupac was Jada's real love.
:rolleyes1
That if anyone tries to get up onstage to hit him, that person will get 'Pac'ed, the way Tupac use to smack people.

Go straight to this TMZ link to see how Tony began his stand up and to read the transcript:

The uncensored version is up at YouTube. But, I can't link it here due to all the language.

It's been a week, and some people in the media and Twitter had some flimsy, biased arguments in defense of Will Smith. They still hold on to the notion that approaching the stage and slapping someone was justified.

I can only feel a bit of sympathy for Will Smith if he does have mental problems. People can sometimes do strange things. However I can't see this being to the point where he can't control himself.

I'm no doctor though so I am trying not to judge too harshly. Its not easy though.

Mini update:

The Academy is moving up their meeting and decision as to what to do about Will Smith to this Friday. Off the table will be suspension or expulsion since Will resigned.

So any speculation as to what they will decide?

I'm thinking, while they won't call it a suspension, they'll say that in 5 years, he will be allowed to re-join if he gets anger management training, maybe does some community service - like speaking up about using one's words, not their hands. (He was already doing that.) And only if he gets nominated for something new. And he doesn't slap someone else again.

Hollywood loves a redemption story. This was the slap seen & talked about around the world in the midst of so many more important issues.. He could use his platform for good, showing people can come back from making a bad mistake. He assaulted someone. Yet, he didn't kill someone.

What do other people think? We could have a DIS contest for who guesses the closest to what the Academy decides. :hyper: popcorn::

Last September there were discussion about Disney working on a sequel to the live action Aladdin movie. An Aladdin movie without Genie is something I don't see happening. I guess they will shelf this idea for quite a while, or get a new Genie.

If Fantastic Beasts can go through 3 actors playing Grindelwald in 3 movies...

I would hope they would at least ban Will Smith from attending any Oscars for a period of time even if he's nominated. Maybe five years.

There's no defense for what he did. He seems to have realized it was a big mistake, but it's too late now. He already ruined the evening for all the other attendees, including the Williams sisters who will never get that chance back to honor their father on the Oscars stage.
