The Official DIS Oscars LIVE Watch Party Thread! The Afterparty continues. . .

Well, this was the only thing Will could do. Retreat, apologize, go into therapy and reflect. Any other decision would have been worse.

Except he hasn't done the last two, as far as we know. He's a Scientologist. They don't do conventional therapy that gets down and deep. They just take Scientology courses over and over. As for reflection, the only reflection he may be doing is how the slap wasn't a good move. For all we know he and Jada could be blaming Chris Rock, saying if he hadn't made that joke, Will wouldn't have felt the need to defend Jada's honor.

Those are things we will never know. Maybe he has family, friends and managers who say 'maybe now is the time to stop dabbling in whatever Jada is into and do what is good for you'.
We shall see in a couple of months/years.

There will be probably an interview with Oprah. That's what people do, go for confession at Oprah, who will bless him an then he can go back to work.

Oh for sure. This was my though as well. We will see a big Oprah interview, set in her garden and it will be filled with tears. She will be sympathetic and he will come off in a good light and we will all forgive him and go to his next movie.

Jada in her long flowing dress with her hand on top of Wills. 🤮 Meh…I don’t watch Oprah interviews. They come off as phony…very contrived.

There are people defending him saying he was protecting his wife's honor. Well, what if Wanda Sykes told that joke and he slapped her, would those same people be okay with that? He could have defended her honor by yelling at him,, which he also did from his seat. If he had just did that, I would be fine with it.

The stupid part of that, is Jada is perfectly capable of defending herself. She is plenty mouthy.

I don’t know about that, but as the victims, didn’t they tell the police they suspected Esme and didn’t believe Trina was involved? I’ve missed some in the last few days- were Esme or Spencer ever questioned? Did the PCPD check for fingerprints on the phone found in Trina’s purse? Did any of the teens questioned mention that Trina felt “out of it” as soon as she sipped from the drink that was served to her by Esme? Shouldn’t they have investigated that further instead of assuming she passed out drunk after just one toddy?

At least now Spencer is putting two and two together. I sure hope Trina pleads “not guilty”. And that Esme is not actually pregnant. Can’t believe the whole town has gotten involved in this.

Yep, she is certainly more than capable of standing up for herself.

Seems like DW is trying to do his own PR 🙄

I love pastor T.D. Jakes, whose Leadership Conference Denzel was at. (Tyler Perry was with T.D Jakes at a different event another time. And yes, Tyler Perry's faith runs deep and he does pray a lot.) So I went to see if I could find more of what was said and the full context of what Denzel said. It's obvious he says more than that, and he did. So did T.D. Jakes.

Here is the full section. This webpage wrote it all out:

"But Washington hadn’t talked about it until speaking with megachurch pastor T.D. Jakes at his annual International Leadership Conference, which was held in Charlotte, North Carolina this week.
“You stepped in the middle of World War Three,” said Jakes to begin his question about the slap. “We were looking at Ukraine and it happened on the Oscars, when Will, who I love, slapped Chris, who I love. You came in as the senior statesman to that situation.”
“These legends got into a fight in front of the world, what happened? It wasn’t really a fight, it was just one person slapping the taste out of the other one’s mouth,” said the pastor, as Washington smiled and the crowd laughed.
“Well, there’s a saying when the devil ignores you, then you know you’re doing something wrong,” said Washington. The crowd reacted and he said, “I’m not done now.”
“You know, the devil goes, ‘Oh no leave him alone, he’s my favorite’,” he said. “Conversely, when the devil comes at you, maybe it’s because you’re trying to do something right.”
“And for whatever reason, the devil got ahold of him, okay, of that circumstance that night,” he said of Smith.
“Fortunately there were people, not just me but others,” said Washington. “Tyler Perry came right immediately right over there with me, and — some prayers, you know. I don’t want to say what we talked about.”
He paused at that point before adding, “There but for the Grace of God go any of us. You know, who are we to condemn, you know?”
“I don’t know all the ins and outs of the situation, but I know the only solution was prayer, the way I see it,” he concluded.
Jakes said that the “embarrassing truth of all of that is this: you had a scandalous situation to happen at a momentous occasion. And then two or three icons who are senior statesmen, highly respected in the industry tweet about. I hate to hear people talk and tweet to people they could call on the phone.”
“And here we see actors acting more pastoral than some preachers do, than some church people do. Because we would’ve been so busy talking about it, nobody would’ve actually went to them and prayed with them. Really? And if you do go pray with somebody who’s in scandal, they may start talking about you!”
He then praised Washington for his leadership in the midst of all that happened, and he and the crowd gave a brief standing ovation for Washington, who reacted with characteristic humility. "

The web page also has a video of it. But, I found the sound rather muffled. It's better to read above first.
Then go HERE for the video clip.

TMZ reports, "Later in the panel interview, Denzel is reported to have talked about the idea of just sitting this one out -- to which he said ... no way, not on my watch."
DW described the moment right afterward, "I couldn't have sat in my seat. No way I could have sat in my seat. That's just not who I am." This was evident right away, because Denzel was photographed getting in between Chris and Will in the immediate aftermath.

As you may have guessed by now, Denzel is very religious ... often referencing his Christian faith."

I doubt it. He is appears consistent and constant in his faith.
He does and that's great about his faith, but in my opinion he REALLY seems to be sugar coating WSs actions, behavior and above all else accountability. Who are we to condemn? Well I certainly would hope that most can agree to condemn acts of violence, but apparently it's not for us common folk to judge??? Look, I get it, he's trying to be religiously driven etc., but man definitely disappointed in his thoughts of the situation. To me it sounds like LOTS of excuses for WS and his CHOICES that night.

I think Denzel means, not to condemn in the moment that it's happening. If (general) you are condemning, you don't have the compassion at the same time to be helping. (It doesn't mean you don't get to sort out what really happened afterward. Denzel had even said, "The 'Devil' comes after you," metaphorically speaking. He knows Will did something awful.

In the first link, TMZ reports, "Later in the panel interview, Denzel is reported to have talked about the idea of just sitting this one out -- to which he said ... no way, not on my watch." That also tracks with what T.D. Jakes said: other people were judging, condemning, talking and tweeting about it at the moment. Meanwhile, Denzel and Tyler Perry went over to help a friend who they know doesn't normally act that way.

Totally agree.

Saturday Night Live has posted the opening monologue by Jerrod Carmichael:
:lmao:

I don't know who he is but he did a good job with the monologue. Weekend update spent some time talking about the slap also.

Darn, SNL didn't post that one. I'll have to see if someone else posts it. They did post this one on being a seat filler at the Oscars.

There is a follow up video on the body language of several people. I hope we will get a video as well on the Will Packer video.
