The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

DD got her first bottle at 4 weeks; she was really confused at first. The look on her face was hilarious. Keep trying and remember to use the slowest flow nipple.

Pumping only once a day might not be enough when you go back to work. I pump for each feeding I miss (twice a day). You need to pump enough times to keep up your supply. If you can't pump more often at work, you should pump at home and on your days off too. Often I don't quite make enough at work and have to pump again at home.

I made the nipple mistake without realizing it until after she drank 6oz of br. milk in like 5 minutes!!! it was a moderate flow nipple...oops- i have since fixed it.

I plan on pumping before work and at work and at night again if i have to. i would love to pump 2 or 3 times at work, but it just isn't going to happen. I don't get those two 15 min breaks that one is supposed to get. so lunch time is it! I guess i'll just have to wait and see how it goes. i really wanted to stay away from formula for as long as possible.

The problem with being a teacher is that we don't get many breaks without kids. I'll get 50 minutes starting around 9 in the morning, and that is it. I'll have kids with me at lunch. So from before 10 until after 3, there will be no chance at all. Again, I did the same thing with my son. I just don't remember quite how I did it. He'll be 12 in a few weeks, so it has been awhile.

I posted that dd9 gave Katie one bottle. I actually pumped enough that day for 2. Dh tried to give her the 2nd bottle the next day while I was doing some schoolwork, and he came to me in a panic. The box of Dr Brown's bottles had nipples from level 1 to 4, and I washed and sorted them. But I got one level 4 mixed up with the level 1s, and dh was trying to feed her with it. She got a face full of milk, and was not happy! We ended up pouring out that bottle-she was too mad to even think about it at that point!

The 2nd time I pumped, I just froze the milk. I know I have to start giving her the bottle, but we both just love nursing so much! I made a ton of milk with ds11, and I seem to be doing the same this time. I pumped 11 oz in less than 10 min, and she woke up right after and there was still milk for her to nurse.

She slept 6 hrs straight again last night. And we went walking this morning. I tried a few wks ago to walk with her in the stroller, and she screamed. I only walked 1/2 mile (our walking track, which is in the backyard since we live in the park, is 1/2 mile long) because less than halfway around she had to come out of the stroller. I carried her and ds11 pushed the stroller. But today we got in 1 1/2 miles, and she fell asleep in the stroller. And yesterday we ran errands for a few hours (dd9's orthodontist and Walmart). She stayed in her carseat/carrier the whole time and didn't cry a single time. This is very different from our earlier outings!:cheer2:

I'm so lucky, and I know it. Hawai'i was our honeymoon and the following year we took an Alaska cruise. I've been dying to return to the Aloha State. I miss it. :sad1: Flights and hotels there are so cheap right now. But there's no way I'm taking a little baby on such a long flight.
We were on our way for our Spring Break this year, which is the last week of March. DH's USMC contract expired 4/11 so we wanted to take advantage of Hawaii when it would have been the cheapest we'd ever be able to do it (before he became a civilian..)
We were going to stay here, I still look at the website in longing: http://www.halekoa.com/
Then I got pregnant, would have been 7 months and thinking back now I had one of the easiest pregnancies so I could have gone pretty easily, but the flight would have been iffy.

december,
I'm totally jealous you have a walking path in your backyard. I might actually exercise if it were right there staring at me. :rotfl:
I accidentally gave DH a fastflow nipple once too and he wasn't too pleased. I've since put them all in a baggie in the nursery so we don't get confused again.
Tomorrow is my errands day, you give me hope... I need to do shopping for the 4th. We're doing festivities with DH's family on Friday and my family on Saturday. Hopefully Lucas will behave like Katie.

...and I have a question, I think my discharge nurse mentioned that babies have growth spurts around 3wks, which would explain maybe why Lucas has been backtracking a bit on his crying spells/sleeping as long as he was?..

Yesterday was bad-- he cried for hours after his morning bottle (from about 9-11:45ish) and did it again at night after his evening bottle.
Then I gave him a bottle at 10:30, before bed, and he slept until 7:15 this morning! Gave him a bottle and he's still sleeping right now.
This boy is just not schedule material, I tell you. On the other hand I feel very rested.

So is it normal to have one incredibly fussy day followed by a perfectly wonderful one? :confused3

Oooo, I have a tip. Land in Hawai'i at night. We landed in Honolulu at 10pm (4am back home), took a shuttle to our hotel and went to sleep immediately. We woke up that morning feeling fabulous and flew to Maui. We had both immediately adjusted to the time. :thumbsup2 Coming back was tougher because of the red eye flight.

DO IT!! Come to Hawaii!! (I'm here LOL) Hawaii is amazing. Little babies just sleep on long flights. :)

CJ will be getting shots tomorrow....and it stinks I have to bring my oldest with me, so he'll witness him crying. I hope I can get him out of the room, so he isn't afraid of shots...but then again knowing him, he'll want to be there to talk to him.

Our visits w/cj were a little extra due to his prematurity and losing weight, but he was discharged at 11 days, we went in the next day for a weight check a week later for a weight check and because he had gained for those 2 he didn't have to go back until the normal 1 month. Now we are 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, etc etc. can you tell I've done this a few times. With my other 2, we were discharged 3 days after they were born and their pedi saw them when they were 10 days for a weight check, then we went to the 1 month, etc schedule.

So I just find out that hubby has to go out of town to chicago my first full week back at work...CJ's first week at daycare! UGH. Just what I need no support when I'm bringing him. I'm one of those moms that turns a mess dropping him off... I still get upset if brady cries when I leave him and he's 2.5! I go back thursday for a couple hours, then I'm working friday, sunday, monday, thursday. Home tuesday, wed & friday. Daycare is closed that week so hubby and I worked out a schedule...but now the following monday he's gone. At least it isn't next week, I should be greatful!

Oh I'm sorry about your DH being gone the first week you go back to work. That has to be tough. My DH just did a week away for training when DD was 2 weeks and I thought I was going to have a breakdown LOL. It was hard, especially at night. :scared:

As for shots...with DD(new one LOL) we haven't done any shots yet. I'm not sure when I'm doing Hep B, but we saw the ped the day after her birth, then 3/4 days old to check weight, and then we don't see her until she's 1 mo old. Which is this week!!!!

Sorry I'm sorry MIA in and out of this thread, I'm more of a lurker. The other kids are off for the summer, plus the new one, plus my DH works somewhere between 60-70 hrs a week and my baby doesn't like to nap LOL. SOOO my hands are busy!!!

My baby (Amelia) is now 4 weeks and growing so fast!!! :sad1: They grow so fast...I know she's still a newborn but I can't believe she's been with us for 4 weeks, in some ways it seems she's been with us forever KWIM?:cloud9:

Ohh and I'm trying to talk DH into a Disneyworld trip this fall. Yes...a 1/2 way around the world flight (Honolulu to Orlando ugg) with a 5 mo old! We just did that flight in Jan it was LONG and dreadful, so I'm nuts to want to do it again but Amelia needs Mickey ears!!

We're going the last week of October, Lucas will be just shy of 5months. I'm so excited!

Go for it!! :goodvibes

*****************************

I'm absolutely bursting. We had dinner with our friends tonight (the only friend I have my age that is married, we went to JR/SR High School together) and they shared that they are expecting!! She just found out today and actually told me before her mom!! She is still very early... very, very early.. but I'm crossing my fingers and thinking good thoughts. The next month will be very nerve wracking for me. I want her to stay pregnant so bad!!
I am so excited to have a friend that I'll be in the same "world" with...

She already talked about packing up the strollers and going to the park and stuff. I swear, I couldn't be happier than I am right now. If it didn't happen this month they were going to stop trying and it happened!!

Thinking good thoughts for her!! :cheer2::cheer2:

:wizard: Lots of sticky baby dust for her!! My best friend is pregnant, again, with me!!! (well I'm not pregnant anymore LOL) She's due in Oct so our babies will be 4.5 mo apart PLUS we have 2 other kids exactly the same age (as in, the other 2 nearly share birthdays and we did those 2 pregnancies together too LOL.)

It is a blast having someone to "share" it all with, being a new mommy is definately an eye opening and awesome experience!!

It totally is a new experience...

Her sister has kids, but it's almost like she was more comfortable asking me about stuff. She was asking me all sorts of stuff that I assumed she'd ask her sister but love that it was me she talked to!
I'm guessing Lucas and her baby will be about 8 months apart. Not too bad!

I already told her I'd throw her baby shower!!! :rotfl:
...I'm back in baby world again, searching for stuff online. She loves penguins and so now I'm browsing baby stuff with penguins on it, haha. It's an addiction.

SOOOO Excited!! haha.

So now Allison won't take the bottle at ALL. I BF but she has gotten the bottle on and off since about 4 weeks. she never gave us a problem until last friday when she wouldn't take it from my mom. now she screams when she even sees the bottle coming towards her! DH blames my mom (which doesnt help the matter). I go back to work on Monday and am so scared that she will go hungry all day and scream. I am waiting on a call back from the pedi to see what their input is.

So weird that she all of a sudden wont take it!
Any ideas or help for me? I am freaking out!

Just a lurker (still on the to-be board) but I was wondering if maybe you had tried another bottle?? Maybe a change in the type would help. I've heard good things about playtex drop-ins with latex, not silicone, nipples and the adiri natural nurser ultimate bottles.

I know exactly how you feel!! Unfortunatly my friend miscarried but they get to start trying again this month!

I ended up trying a different bottle (by Adiri that is supposed to be more like the breast). She took 2 ozs from me and 2 from my mom. It is just weird bc all of a sudden she stopped taking the NUK bottle which she has taken for months.

Pedi said just to keep trying and that eventually she will take it. She may miss a feeding or two here or there and may make up for it at night! (yuck, i dont miss those middle of the night feedings!)

TOTALLY normal. I think 3 weeks, 6 weeks and 9 weeks?? Are typical growth spurts. He will most likely calm down after it. I never noticed it with one baby, but I really noticed it with two!! It was Tag team with them during those growth spurts!:lmao:

so my little moose is 15 lbs 3 oz, over the 97%!! Yeah, you'd never know he was a premie. I forgot what his height was, but it's around 90%.

We are changing his formula! Pedi said no need for the neosure anymore, he's gaining plenty of weight and that's the main reason he was on it, he lost a lot in hospital w/all he went thru! So we are trying regular similac first and if he's still having his gas issues in a week, I'm going to try gentelease. He thinks he'll do fine on the similac and I have a couple of sample cans, so I'm good. He's done really well on it so far, no puking....so I don't need the soy like my other 2. He isn't screaming w/gas pains, still a little gassy but already a lot less. He said it will take a week to get it out of his system completely.

Pasty and I will be at WDW same time!! CJ will be a little over 6 months and I say go for it w/little ones. Hubby and I always went to disney w/out the kids, it doesn't change cuz we have them. oldest went at 5 months, middle at 7 weeks and cj at 6 months. I have some of the best memories with my oldest as it was the last trip for both my grandparents before they both passed away! My grandmother is the one who sparked my disney obsession.

ok...enough blabbing...shots, he got 3 shots and then the rotovirus drink yesterday. The nurse is actually a friend of mine who I use to work with at a nursing home, so I was glad I got her yesterday. it's the first time I've had her since she started working there.

Do you guys usually fly or drive with the little ones? Stay onsite? Tell me more!

We're planning to go next August, Lily will be a year old. It'll be 2 years since DH was there and 20 months for me (not that I'm counting :thumbsup2)...if I don't lose my job at the library, we might go crazy and stay at a deluxe or rent points...:woohoo: I have to start planning now! lol

Hey Stacy, let me know if he does okay on the regular Similac. They keep mailing me sample cans too and I hate to toss them and if we meet up in Disney... I could pass them off easy.

gee...I can say both. I have flown and drove. I have not driven with one as little as CJ will be (6 months) but he does great in the car. More than likely we are driving in October, unless I find a great deal on flights. I have driven with my oldest at 16 months, my middle was about the same age and they did great. I had portable DVD players, made pit stops for running around. We stop once both ways overnight. We usually leave about midnight so the kids will sleep the first leg. With the older ones I brought coloring books, etc..things they could use in the car. My hubby took a nap one time while I took the kids in to eat. then he got fast food. We travel from MA, so it's a hike, but this will be the 3rd time in 5 years we've driven.

when flying it seems it was more hectic w/packing, what you can/can't bring on plane, going thru security, car seats, strollers etc. that's what i like about driving, car seats are all in place. i had h2o in bottles to mix powder formula with and the first tsa told me that i couldn't do that. I had checked tsa website before I did it and it said you could..she asked supervisor and they let me go thru. But I did have a couple of cans of ready made formula just in case. Then there's getting all the baby supplies there or buying when you get there. We would pick up when we got there as we always get a car.

we are staying at boardwalk and love it. i love the entertainment on the boardwalk and the fact that you can just walk right down vs driving over. we would always visit the boardwalk, but stayed in the villas for the first time last year.

Thanks! That was very helpful! I'm sure i'll have more questions for you as it gets closer. I just want to prepare now while I have some time to think about all the options! lol

We've only taken DS once so far and he was 11 months old. He nursed after take off and stayed asleep until about 20 minutes before we landed. We just gave him a snack to keep him busy. He didn't cry once. I was hoping I wouldn't be the mom that got the evil eye from everyone. He did the same on the way home. We got lucky on that one. It's a perfect age to go, IMHO.

We stayed at the CR and it was so nice to be able to walk to MK or take the monorail. We love Poly and now have DVC at BLT. I can't wait to see how it will be in December. DS1 will be 26m and DS2 will be 6m. :goodvibes

:cheer2: It is official. I can now join!!!:cheer2::cheer2:

I had my baby girl, Natalie, 2 weeks ago today. It is wild to think that I was being prepped for my c-section just 2 weeks ago. I am heading to the doctors office this afternoon for my follow up appointment. I hope they say I can drive. I have been off my pain meds for over a week now.

Anyway, I don't know if I will have time to go back and read all 24 pages of posts. I may just jump in here if thats okay.

Hope everyone is doing great and adjusting to parenthood. The strangest thing for us has been not watching TV. I have no idea what is going on in the world.

Happy 4th of July everyone:banana:
