The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

Trust me.....WAIT!!!:rotfl:

I have no plans as of yet. I just look at what 2 in diapers can do and think, man this is gross! But 3 at once is a good reality check. :thumbsup2

I have always heard that these are useless items... however, DH has been told that these are must haves. Do the wipes not dry out with the wipe warmer-- and does the diaper genie really cut down on smell? Do you HAVE to use their bags?

Thanks!!

Never had either item, but I did hear the wipes warmer does dry them out. And I read the same info about being a fire hazard. We're not big on fire hazards around here!

We also just have a regular lidded garbage cans in both rooms and empty them a few times a week. It depends on what's going in there, but we change most diapers downstairs and they just go in the regular garbage.

Okay newest moms... I hope to be joining you in the next 10weeks or so.

I haev a question-- what are your opinions of the Diaper Genie (and all of its versions, II, Elite, etc)... and a wipe warmer?

I don't have either. DD doesn't care about cold wipes, and her poo doesn't stink too much so I don't see the need for the diaper genie. Ask me about her stinky poo again when she's off breastmilk and eating solids, though. :rotfl:

Definitely hated it. We planned to wait until we got our degrees....but I was supposed to start a new pack of BCPs, was an hour from home in a town with no pharmacy... and got Lucas. Oh well. We love him. :cloud9:
My mom said that is one of the reasons she is offering to babysit so much... So far we've been married 13 months, have a 1 month old baby, bought a house, remodeled the house, moved into the house and been through two deaths (my grandmother and DH's dad)... while working and going to college, too.
My mom was afraid we wouldn't be able to hold it all together, especially when I fell into that dark crevice of baby blues:laughing:

So far so good. I can't get Lucas on a schedule though. Maybe it's too early, I don't know? He'll go 5 hours without eating, then he'll go an hour and then he'll go 8. It doesn't make any sense but when I try to get him on a schedule (I tried every 4 hours) he wasn't finishing his bottles and then he was screaming in between, so I gave up. :confused3

Wow, that is a WHOLE lot going on. I didn't know about your losses, I'm sorry to read that. I'm not sure if you posted that, or I just missed it. My dad had a heartattack a month after we were married and then my mom died a month after that out of the blue. It was the worst 2 months of my life. I felt like I had to move out into a house with a person I love more than anything, but I was so sad over leaving my parents. Then with everything that happened I didn't think I would ever be happy again.

I got up the same time everyday and got myself together before even thinking about what to do with DS. I still do the same thing. But now I just feed the baby and then carry on like always. Even when I'm sick I have to get up and do something. Just taking a shower and changing clothes makes a huge difference for me. DS2 eats at different times too, I think it just depends on what he's done during the day. Sleeping in a swing can apparently take a lot out of you. :rotfl: But he's starting to wake up more and we're out the door as soon as he's eaten for the second time in the AM. I don't care where we go, but we're not sitting around here!

Nice about the samples at your dr office. I would be carrying an extra large purse suddenly. Cam has his 1 month this Thursday. Not looking forward to crying over shots again.

I don't have either. DD doesn't care about cold wipes, and her poo doesn't stink too much so I don't see the need for the diaper genie. Ask me about her stinky poo again when she's off breastmilk and eating solids, though. :rotfl:
Oh man, just wait! I can't even explain... just wait! ETA: is your map for anything specific? I don't think I've visited that many states. Pathetic!

Haha, I've only taken one sample, I hate to take something that someone else might really NEED...

Which shots?! Lucas doesn't have an appointment for shots until August 17th, he'll be 2months2wks.

All those vaccination schedules I've looked at confuse the heck out of me. Seems like there isn't a SET one, kwim?

(My grandmother died right after Christmas, I don't know if you were with us then?... my FIL died August 30th, that is actually why I was an hour from home in a town with no pharmacy.. his funeral! Everyone told DH that Lucas is his gift, or "blessing", from his father..)

I learned so much about the differences in OBs on the other thread, now it seems like peds are different too. We didn't do a 1 month appt. Katie was seen by the ped in the hospital (who said I didn't need to bring her back to the 2 day appt that is normally done), then by our ped at 2 wks (no shots then). Her next checkup is at 2 mos.

I had a diaper genie with the older kids, but didn't like it. I just bought a garbage can with a lid at Walmart for Katie. It is cute-Disney Princess theme that opens with a foot lever. It is pretty thick too. She's breastfed, and we empty it every night, but no odor yet. I've never had a wipes warmer-she doesn't seem to mind a cold wipe on her butt!

Katie is getting so big! I haven't gotten her on a schedule during the day. She eats whenever she wants. But next week I am planning to give her one bottle a day, then two the next week, then three. That should be the amount she gets at daycare. I pumped and gave her one bottle last weekend when we were out to eat, and she took it fine. I've pumped one other time and have a few bottles worth in the freezer.

I have to get myself on a schedule too! I'll pump once at work, around 9 in the morning, then won't be able to again until after 3 when school is out. I'm a little worried about getting engorged. I make a huge amount of milk.

She is sleeping 6 hrs at night, which I think is great at 6 wks!

Oh, ok. I joined in January. The vaccine schedules can be very confusing. He has his 2nd HEPB, 1st was in the hospital. We don't have a 2 week appt. We have a 2 day for weight check, then 1 month, 2, 3, 6, 9, 12, 15, 18, 24. This is the chart they use, which is confusing to me. They also give a booklet to keep track. I should find Bry's and see what we're going to have. He was a whole month off because our office was so busy during the holidays. So he's been 3wks/month older for his appointments. At least Cam is right on this time.

ETA: Found the booklet. Just one shot, the second HEPB shot. The second check-up has third dose HEPB.

I know I am not a new mom yet - But I wanted to chime in on the wipe warmer. (My qualifications - I paid for college doing childcare, and have always been the family baby sitter). Anyhow, a wipe warmer is a huge waste in my opinion. My cousin has one that doesn't dry them out - but all wipe warmers I have used are useless because as soon as you take the wipe out it begins to cool. By the time you get it on the baby it is barely any warmer than a cold wipe would be. Pretty useless in my opinion. I don't want one and idnd't register for one either :thumbsup2

CJ will be getting shots tomorrow....and it stinks I have to bring my oldest with me, so he'll witness him crying. I hope I can get him out of the room, so he isn't afraid of shots...but then again knowing him, he'll want to be there to talk to him.

Our visits w/cj were a little extra due to his prematurity and losing weight, but he was discharged at 11 days, we went in the next day for a weight check a week later for a weight check and because he had gained for those 2 he didn't have to go back until the normal 1 month. Now we are 2, 4, 6, 9, 12, 18, 24, 36, etc etc. can you tell I've done this a few times. With my other 2, we were discharged 3 days after they were born and their pedi saw them when they were 10 days for a weight check, then we went to the 1 month, etc schedule.

So I just find out that hubby has to go out of town to chicago my first full week back at work...CJ's first week at daycare! UGH. Just what I need no support when I'm bringing him. I'm one of those moms that turns a mess dropping him off... I still get upset if brady cries when I leave him and he's 2.5! I go back thursday for a couple hours, then I'm working friday, sunday, monday, thursday. Home tuesday, wed & friday. Daycare is closed that week so hubby and I worked out a schedule...but now the following monday he's gone. At least it isn't next week, I should be greatful!

That is great that she is sleeping that much at night especially since she is BF. So, you gave her the bottle without an issue- I have read that the mom shouldn't give the bottle because the baby associates us with the brea$t. hmmm.. I have to think about trying this. I am going back to work next Monday and have exclusively BF except for a few bottle here or there (someone else has always given in to her). Now out of the blue the other day she wouldn't take the bottle from my mom (who will be watching her for the next 8 weeks while I am at work)... and she gave DH a hard time about it last night too. i am going to try to give her at least a bottle a day between now and next week. I am only going back part time (3- 8hr days) so i am nervous about only being able to pump once during the day and then being able to BF her full time on my days off... is this something that can be done?

I have a wipe warmer downstairs, but not upstairs. It works fine and I haven't had any trouble with wipes drying out. There is not one in the nursery and she doesn't seem to mind having cold ones up there... hadn't thought about the potential fire hazard... hmmm, something to consider I guess.

I have the diaper champ, not the genie- i registered for this bc you don't need the special bags. Allison is BF so her diapers are not stinky.

Does anyone else swaddle their babies? this has become allisons sleep 'cue.' we swaddle for naps and for bedtime- it has made a huge difference in getting her to go down easier.

NOW my issue is that she rolled over yesterday (back to belly) and I have read that you should stop swaddling when they roll because of the potential for suffocation if they roll and can't roll back or lift their heads.

Any secrets for weaning the swaddle?

Dd9 gave her the bottle, not me. I don't know if she would take one for me!

On the discussion of having kids close together-my 1st 2 were 28 mos apart, and some of those memories are just a blur. But having the older 2 (almost 12 and 9) to help with the new baby has been wonderful! They are so much help right now. And they love it.

I went back to work when ds11 was 3 wks old! I left him with my grandmother. I pumped at work, nursed him when I was home, and didn't wean him until he was 18 mos. So it is very doable - I just wish I remembered more about how I did it!

I've seen that chart before! I have a copy somewhere, I believe. Stuff is everywhere in this house.

Lucas got the first HEPB in the hospital, the day they discharged him.
We had to take him back the next Monday (we were discharged on a Saturday) because he wasn't eating very well until Friday when I asked them to switch his formula, and he also had blood in his stool while we were in the hospital.
Switching to soy formula completely fixed it, though. They've done two follow-ups since then to check his diapers and make sure. They were all negative last time so they just scheduled him for his 1 month to check weight and 2 month, to get his shots. I don't have any idea beyond that as to when he'll be going. I'll definitely ask at my next appt. as I'd rather see the Pediatrician, not the NPs.

Definitely a big difference! I find it fascinating to hear how different things are.

Go Katie, sleeping through the night!

Lucas has been able to get out of his swaddles (except for that Kiddopatomus thing) since day 1... so I gave up, he's got a crotched blanket that I put on him.

He hasn't rolled yet but he can lift his head up and look around when we do tummy time now. He can hold it high enough and steady enough to look me in the eye. He's had pretty good control of his head for the last few weeks. He loves when we go upstairs, he's looking all around him at all our crap.

Stacy, I hope CJ does good with his shots and it doesn't bum out your older DS too much if CJ cries. :(

Yeah, not looking forward to stinky poo!:scared1::sick::scared:

The map is just the states I've visited. I'm missing a lot of places out west, aren't I?

I'm jealous that you've been to Alaska and Hawaii!

Those are on my list!

I wish I could go to Hawaii. Maybe one day when the kids are older. I can't imagine getting them on Hawaiian time then coming back and dealing with that.

DH and I went to France on a babymoon. Too bad it was the next month we got pregnant. We picked out Mallory for our girl name but couldn't agree on a French boys name. Maybe Mallory will stick if we have #3. OMG, am I really thinking about #3?

I think there is a definite #3 in your future. When I think of names now, I think of future pets...:rotfl:

I'm so lucky, and I know it. Hawai'i was our honeymoon and the following year we took an Alaska cruise. I've been dying to return to the Aloha State. I miss it. :sad1: Flights and hotels there are so cheap right now. But there's no way I'm taking a little baby on such a long flight.

I wish I could go to Hawaii. Maybe one day when the kids are older. I can't imagine getting them on Hawaiian time then coming back and dealing with that.

Oooo, I have a tip. Land in Hawai'i at night. We landed in Honolulu at 10pm (4am back home), took a shuttle to our hotel and went to sleep immediately. We woke up that morning feeling fabulous and flew to Maui. We had both immediately adjusted to the time. :thumbsup2 Coming back was tougher because of the red eye flight.

DD got her first bottle at 4 weeks; she was really confused at first. The look on her face was hilarious. Keep trying and remember to use the slowest flow nipple.

Pumping only once a day might not be enough when you go back to work. I pump for each feeding I miss (twice a day). You need to pump enough times to keep up your supply. If you can't pump more often at work, you should pump at home and on your days off too. Often I don't quite make enough at work and have to pump again at home.
