The I am a pirate/fireman, I am not a hijacker thread, all about nothing in general

Hope everyone had a good night and the storms did not do any damage.

I bribed my children (Yes - can you believe I had to bribe them) to go to the fireworks last night. we got settled as I like to leave early - like 4 hours early, so I can get a good spot. There is lots of entertainment prior to the fireworks and even though I LOVE fireworks, I love the jets more. There was a FA-18 doing tricks. It was a great night. Even though some arrogant jerks in front of us only stood up to stretch their legs or the kids run around while something was actually happening. when nothing was happening they sat quietly, no problems. It means during my photos and videos I have their body's continually block the view. very fustrating

The storm passed by here quickly, Bec. Hope it whizzes past you as well.

It was a bit nasty down here, lots of lightning :scared: then a tremor which I actually thought was wind.
It sounded like the last one we had which was alot shakier and a bit louder

Thanks Becpee.

It hasn't actually been that bad here in the Auckland region. High winds, but the rain has been lighter than expected.

In fact, it's actually been a blessing. Farmers in the area were at near drought conditions, but this weekend's rain has been strong enough to wet the crops without drowning them.

I hope the weather in Melbourne has been okay this weekend. I have family there on their first overseas trip ever, visiting the F1. I have been a bit worried about them as they were really thrown out of their comfort zone preparing for this trip.
They really wanted us to come with them but money and sanity were too much of a concern. Money because of our other trips this year, and sanity because these inlaws drive me insane. I should share some of the things this step-MIL has said and done to me over the years - they're awful.
But in retrospect, I wish I'd tried harder to find the money. I would have enjoyed leaving them at the cars and visiting PIO and other Dis Melbournites (is that a word?).

I think we're sharing the wild wooly winter edge already.

I've never done the F1, I have no interest at all, but lunch would have been nice :lmao:

Another Sunday night.

The working week starts again tomorrow. *sigh*

I have until Wednesday, tomorrow is a cleaning day then Tuesday I have builder maintenance coming.
Fun :crazy2:

My work week starts on Wednesday, but today marks 25 weeks until we fly out!
I'm just imagining airport security is going to be crazy again like my first trip in October 2001, i'm mentally preparing myself already :crazy2:

Thanks Becpee.

There's always next year. :thumbsup2

Enjoy that super fun Monday and Tuesday, Bec.

That's Tuesdays for me :goodvibes Today is paperwork day... *cough*

OK, here's a hypothetical WWYD - My dad is turning 60 this year, and both his and my mum's birthdays are in November. DH and I have been tossing around the idea of buying them flights to NZ as a joint birthday pressie. Which I know they'd love.

However recently DH and I have also been tossing around the idea of another trip to the US. Which could possibly be in October. So now I'm thinking, would they prefer to come with us. We wouldn't be paying for their flights, but maybe their accommodation. :confused3 Not sure, haven't really thought it through yet.

Any hoo, they wouldn't be able to do both, and they could probably only do either for 1-2 weeks. I'm going to have to tell them about everything beforehand if it's US, whereas I could surprise them with the already bought flights if it was NZ...

So, WWYD???

That's a tough one Bec.

If it were me, I would ask my parents what they would prefer to do. Unfortunately, that spoils the surprise factor; if you were thinking the NZ route.

What a lovely gesture. Have you thought of buying them a travel voucher so it can be presented as a surprise, but they can spend it as they choose. Perhaps with a fun little poem accompanying it about how they get to choose.

E.g.

Here's a gift of travel to show you how special you are.
You can use if for planes, hotels, or tickets. Or even a rental car.

Perhaps you could put it towards America and join us on our trip later this year?
Or perhaps cross the Tasman to New Zealand and see what's on offer there.

Etc etc.

You get the idea. I'm certainly not going to win any poetry awards. :rotfl:

Just out of curiosity, has anyone heard from Shushh recently and knows if she is okay?

I check her blog every so often to see if there are any Allure of the Seas updates, but her posts seemed to have stopped quite abruptly. Not that I can talk - my blog came to a grinding halt practically overnight. It's just that she was always so much better at keeping her blog up to date than me. :goodvibes

She's fine; busy with real life. :thumbsup2

Wow, what a gorgeous gift for them! pixiedust:

I think I would maybe do up a little gift pack, one for each trip. Get some of those old print airplane ticket covers from a TA (I did this once to present a gift, I stapled the info of the trip inside the ticket cover). You could do the ticket cover and inside that some info about that trip and include in that packet some brochures or info on sights they could see etc. Then do another for the other destination. Put each trips info into a large envelope and on the front of each envelope or put both envelopes into a gift bag with a card saying "pick one". or write Pick Me or... on one envelope and Pick Me on each of the other envelope.

They are both amazing trips, I am sure they would love either. If they will travel well with you, they may enjoy coming along and sharing your trip.

Yeah I think letting them choose would be the way to go. However I feel a bit funny doing anything special asking them which one they'd want, as their birthdays aren't until November, but I'd be asking them in the next month or so (because I wouldn't want us to miss out on cheap flights) which would seem a bit weird... If you get me... :confused3

I don't know, maybe I'm over thinking it...
