First of all... THANKS! to everyone who offered such great info in this thread. All of the questions and replies were great help!
Our stay: Feb. 8-16, 2005
Our crew: myself(32), dh(33), dd(6) and ds(4)
We arrived around 1pm on Feb. 8th and were able to get a room right away! We were shown the map and shown a few areas that we could choose from.
I asked for 4th floor (to avoid extra noise for my early to bed kids).
We were given a room in the 70's (6400's) on the top floor of the building with the Mickey phone. We were on the side facing the pop jet/twister/fuseball(sp) area, not the lakeside. This location was perfect for us! We were probably closer to classic hall than a lot of the 60's rooms. Which also meant closer to the bus stops. We were also close to the hippy dippy pool. We usually used the 8-track stairs, but relied on the elevator a few times when we were carrying sleeping kids home.
The rooms are the size of regular hotel rooms. We were fine for the 8 nights, but we didn't "hang out" in the room... it was used for sleeping.
We requested a hair dryer and extra towels when we first got into our room and it was brought up right away. (We wanted to hit the pool immediately!)
I brought a small jug kettle with us to make coffee and oatmeal in the room. There was room to store it under the sink. It could be plugged in by the sink or over by the small table.
Our first stop on the way to the room was to pick up some refillable mugs and some frozen coke!! We enjoyed those ALOT during the trip.
Mousekeeping entertained us some of the days with some towel characters, arranging the kids toys etc.
The transportation was great! The only time we complained was when the cheerleaders were in town, the crowds at MK were crazy! (either because the cheerleaders and/or their families were there, or because everyone was avoiding MGM where their competitions were) On two evenings (long before park closing) we had to wait for an hour or so. Buses would come, fill up and leave, so we waited for 3 or 4 buses.
We dined at most of the deluxe resorts, but the kids were still most impressed with POP. They thought we were staying at the most fun resort at WDW! So I think it will be our choice for the next trip.
