~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Just a quick post to let you all know that I put the DisneySea pictures up on FB (along with some more from Kyoto) if anyone is interested.

I enjoyed my round of golf, 18 holes of heat, sweat and enjoyment. :rolleyes1

When I was given the prices for playing 18 with a cart vs 18 walking, I decided to walk it and carry my bag. I had some regret a few times, but it worked out OK. I fugured that I walked at least 6 miles with my bag in tow during the 18 holes today based on the yardage, plus. I also had 5 pars on the day, close to a couple of birdies, but not so lucky.

Have a great week!

Good Morning Everyone: Rest day for me yesterday. My shin is feeling better, and I'm going to try to run today. One more week of "summer" vacation before the girls, DD8 pooh: and DD11 princess: , go back to school. We were originally thinking of going away this week for one last fling, but, alas, things have gotten too busy at work. So now I'll be juggling work and watching the girls.

Cindy- Your Japan pictures have been incredible. Tokyo DisneySea looks like an amazing park. Thanks for sharing. Hope your running is going well.

Matt- Hope your running is going well too.

Lou- Great job on that 20 miler. :worship: Impressive!

Howard- Sounds like you had a great weekend of running and golf. :thumbsup2

Jen- I hope you and Butch have a fantastic trip to California. When do you leave? Have fun with the DL1/2. I SOOOOOOOO WISH I was there with you guys. Next year...

Colleen- Good job on getting out there and running 3 miles. Are you getting ready for NYC?

Mike- Hope you're having fun at Vero Beach.

Chester- Hope all is well for you and Tracy.

Jodi- 2BR at AKL for marathon weekend! :cool1: Sounds awesome! I've always wanted to stay there. Some day...

Hello CindyLou :wave2:

Hi Sara :wave2: Are you out there? I haven't heard much from you lately.

All about me post guys....why should today be any different?:lmao:

Real quick-

I've decided to take a week (or so) off running due to bi-lateral heel pain. Once the Achilles crap cleared up (thanks to accu-guy), I realized my heels were pretty dang sore as well! Hoping it's not that Plantar Fasc...Plantar Fasi....Plantar Peanut crap!.

So my last run was 8 on Friday (which should have been 14) & I probably won't run again until this Sat. (scheduled 8)...NYC, here I come:sad2:, all fit & ready to go! I'll go to the dreaded gym this week for some CT. LOVE those people at the gym!

Jodi - That sucks about your heel pain. I hope a week off is all it takes. Try not to beat up anyone at the gym.

Dave - I hope that your run today goes well.

Howard - Looks like you got in some extra cross training by walking the golf course:thumbsup2

I was kind of annoyed when I left for work this morning to find it cool outside - WTH!? Why couldn't we have had this weather yesterday for my long run? My 13 miler really took a lot out of me yesterday and I didn't really do anything for the rest of day. I feel fine today though. Tomorrow I'm supposed to run 8 miles with 4 at tempo pace:scared1:

Jodi~ SOrry to hear about the heels.. I hope it is not what you migh think it is. That is something I know all too well. I treat its name just like Valdemort. I try not to say it. Best of luck making friends at the gym while you CT.:rolleyes1:sad2:

I didn't run this morning or tonight. Why? My knee is hurting. :confused3 I ran on it yesterday and then walked a bit over 6 miles, I guess that did it. I am not sure why it waited until half way through my work day today to hurt.

So, I am going to rest it today and tomorrow AM. If it is still hurting or there is discomfort, I'll wait some more. My next race is the PDR so I can use that as a training run, I am definitely not in PR shape this year.

Cindy~ I thought the same thing this morning.. 63 degrees when I got in my car this morning. ***?!?

Cindy - The Tokyo DisneySea pics are very nice. That place looks amazing. It looks nothing like any the Disney parks here in the USA.

Matt - Is there such a thing as a 20-mile run that doesn't suck?

Howard - Nice job with the run/golf XT yesterday.

Dave - I hear you about school. My kids start next week. Seems like the summer just started and now they are going back to school.

Jodi - Sorry to hear about the Planter Facism problem. Better to stay off the feet for a week. You want to be fit and ready to go in NYC in just 2 MONTHS! Are you kidding me...it's only 2 months away!

Colleen - Where are you, me and Jodi going to trick or treat on Halloween? Come to think of it...what you are doing for your kids that night?

Mike - I think I'll have try walking at the water stops. I have burned out at 20 miles at all 3 marathons I ran so maybe a few 30-60 second breaks to drink water will save some gas in the tank.

Megan - Once again, it was great running into a WISH runner on Kelly Drive. I'm sure I'll see you agin at the PDR.

Hey Sara, Chester, Jen, CindyLou.

I guess it's old news that I ran 20 yesterday since everyone (sans Mike) is on FB. Mike, I did manage to find a few Optimators in a beer cooler at a party yesterday afternoon. Took the pain away for a few hours.

The run was okay. 20 in 2:57. I'm hoping for a sub 4-hr marathon at NYC and 2:57 for 20 is cutting it too close. I was fading the last mile. I went from an 8:45 pace to about 9:30 real quick. Would have been lucky to run 10-minute miles the rest of the way if it were a marathon.

However, it was hot and humid and I did spend Saturday night hanging out with Nicole (kids were at SiL's) at a Tequila bar. I found that Cabo Wabo and 20 mile runs don't mix.

Lou

Colleen - Where are you, me and Jodi going to trick or treat on Halloween? Come to think of it...what you are doing for your kids that night?

Lou

I have no idea, you and Jodi need to discuss all the details, I am along for the ride.:thumbsup2 As for the kids, they will be home and DH will be parenting that night.:dance3:

Cindy, I sent you the info on the Beach Club rate. TA was traveling and she just booked it for me this morning.

Howard, impressive golf prowess!

Dave, how are the legs feeling? Ice, advil, stretch repeat.

Most of you know I put in 12 miles on Sunday. Probably the worst LR ever, but I got it done. Rested yesterday, yoga this morning and hopefully I will get out and walk 3 miles tonight.

Mike, hi!

Be good friends!

Lou If you can do a 20 miler in 2:57 in the heat that we had this weekend you will be fine for NY. For reference, two weeks ago (when the weather was "70 degrees and less humid" according to my notes) I ran a 17 miler in 2:35 (9:07 pace) and felt strong the entire way. This weekend when the weather was nasty, like 75-80 degrees and 85% humidity I struggled through the same 17 miler at close to 10 minute pace on average and I had to walk a lot at the end.

By the time NY rolls around and temps are in the high 40s to low 50s you are going to crush it.

Hi Bots!

Colleen: I hope you are feeling better from your 12 miler.

Lou: Do you run all your LR at race pace? Not that I know everything, far from it, but my LR are usually 45 to 90 sec per mile slower than my marathon pace. I do run some faster long runs, but not for such a long distance. I would think that you beat yourself up by trying to hold that pace for such a long way.

Howard: Hope the knee is better. Especially since you are having cooler temperatures. Congrats on the new car. Will you get to drive it much?

Cindy: I see on FB that your run didn't go quite as you wanted it to. I'm sure you're still a bit worn out from your 13 miler on Sunday.

Jodi: Sorry about your heel pain. I wanted to weigh in on the walk vs. no-walking question. I generally will not walk during a race. I think I do have it in my head that it's cheating. Probably stems back from my days of HS X-country where the coach would kill you if he saw you walking. But that said, I know a lot of people who do it and if that's enough to keep you running un-injured than maybe that's what you have to do. You could certainly test it out running 10Ks both ways, that might be a good enough comparison. How many days do you normally run? I've found in my older days I can only do 3 days a week or I do end up injured. Maybe that approach might help you. Good luck, I'm sure it's very frustrating for you.

Dave: Again on FB I saw your shins were acting up again. Sorry to hear about that. Hope you can find a way to treat that. Hope DDs have a good last week of summer. My DS7 can't wait to start back. He has until next Wed.

Hello to everyone else.
Cindy

I do run some faster long runs, but not for such a long distance. I would think that you beat yourself up by trying to hold that pace for such a long way.

Cindy (CindyLou) - I usually attempt to run the LR's at race pace just to see how long I can hold the pace. However, like most people, I get pumped up on race day and tend to go out faster than normal for a while so it's hard to say what race pace is for a marathon for me (last marathon it ranged from 7:50 to 11:00). I'm going to try to keep things more under control at NYC because I think I burned out way too fast at the last 2 marathons.

Who knows? I have no clue what I am doing. I don't even have a training schedule. My training has been to run when and where I can on weekdays and run as long as I can on weekends. I just hope Matt's right and it's in the 40's and 50's on 11/1.

Lou

Hey Bots,

Finished week 3 of training and have been able to get all the runs in so far. Just had to shift the schedule a little bit to avoid thunderstorms.

Working late again tonight on freelance stuff. Have 3 miles scheduled for when I get home.

Jen and Butch
Have a great time at DL. I really would have liked to make the trip again this year, but it looks like it will be an "every other year" event for us.

Got to get back to work so I won't be running at midnight.

Bottage! What up?

You guys have given me a lot of food for thought for my walk/run ?'s. I suppose I'll play with it a little more b4 NYC & see what I come up with. I, like Lou, tend to just "run" my LRs to see what kind of shape I'm in. Everytime I run, if it's not "speed work", tends to be between 9 & 10 min. miles, every runs seems to avg. about 9:30s-40s...perhaps this is my problem. I don't slow down for the longer runs, therefore I can't "speed up" for the short, supposedly "more intense" runs. :confused3 Who knows? :rotfl:. My heel pain is very sporadic throughout the day & if I take to Advile b4 sleeps it's not so bad when I roll outta bed. What's pissing me off to no end, is that cool weather has rolled in & i'm lying in bed when I should be running!:headache:
I've been itchy to push it, but then I got a phone call from my brother this a.m. (who is training to do the Disney full in Jan - he did the 1/2 last year). He said he warmed up w/ walking, was running for about 4 miles, Achilles got tight, he stopped to walk & about 2 mins. later while walking heard a "tear".:sad2::headache:. How you "hear" a tear, I'm not sure. But he hobbled home. I tried not to be too negative, but told him to ice, NSAIDS & a Dr. He's like "nah, i'll wait 'til tomorrow". I'm not sure he has any idea what he has done. Poor guy. I checked on him later in the day & he said it still hurt but wasn't "too bad".:scared1:. So, that being said, I've decided to give it until Sat. to run again.

Cindy - I run 3-4 times a week. I'm like you - I feel if I walk I'm cheating. I finished Philly in 4:15 & felt pretty good the entire time (although that had a lot to do with the cold weather). I don't necessarily "burn out", @ the end of a marathon, but I'd just like to run faster.

Lou - Dude, you gotta slow down a little, man. Maybe NYC will be so crowded it'll be hard to go out fast. As far as Halloween goes, we can go trick or treating in the Village. I've heard that it's pretty interesting there.:scared1: Awesome job on that 20, dude!:thumbsup2

Mindys - Nice way to get that 8 miler in! No "cheating" on your behalf - you did the tempo crap, it's all good (referencing FB post, people). M2, you all ready to kick 26.2 butt in Baltimore? or what?

Dave - Speedy times, there, pardner!:worship: Watch that shin doesn't get aggrevated. So, you're doing ToT w/ the girls??popcorn::

Colleen - How's the aftermath of that 12 on Sunday?:sick:popcorn::

Howard - How's that knee, bud?

Chester - So...what's YOUR key to staying injury free???:hippie::hippie: You're like a running FREAK & haven't gotten injured once.popcorn::

Mike - So are you back yet or what? Have you run @ ALL???. You're starting to sound like me...what a slug!

This post is way too long. An apology for those that I missed, but I'm exhausted, as I'm sure you all are from reading this "novel".:headache:

Howard, impressive golf prowess!

Thanks Colleen! I am considering giving up running and taking up golfing. There are some trade offs:

1. Running is supposed to be less expensive overall. I mean I don't have to pay $45 to run through my neighborhood. ;)

2. I will never get the workout I get running by playing golf. However, if I played from sun up to sun down, I might get close. I am willing to give it the old college try. :thumbsup2

3. I don't think there is a comparable BOT thread on the DIS Golf Board.

4. I wouldn't get to spend time with my BOT peeps.

Howard: Hope the knee is better. Especially since you are having cooler temperatures. Congrats on the new car. Will you get to drive it much?

CindyLou~ Hi! The knee is not better, but progressively feeling better. (See below). As far as the new car, we heard that it might take as long as January to arrive, we are waiting for better news and hope it comes a lot sooner than that. It is being made in Germany, then it comes over by ship. I will most likely get to drive it on weekends when we are together. I am the designated driver when she and I go anywhere. We bought the BMW Convertible with that in mind. It was our fun car for the weekends that I could and would also love.

Howard - How's that knee, bud?

Jodi~ I am not feeling the love from the knee at this point although it is marginally better. I think it is the MCL, I looked it up online again and it is in the right spot on my knee. I am not sure if this type of things gets looser over time, if it damages it any to run on it, etc. I am in the dark. If this persists I'll see my family doctor for some advice. For now, I am resting it and taking it out for a run when it feels better.

Lou~ I have a training program in place for the Marine Corps Marathon including the PDR, etc. I haven't been following it much at all. Not with the foot, then the knee issues. Maybe it is better to go off menu and go ala carte like you and Jodi.

Jen and Butch~ Best of Luck in Disneyland! Cam and I were out there for the inaugural. We'll make it back again someday. Safe travels!

There is nothing to report for today in the training realm.

Have a lovely evening!

Hello Bots!

Lou If they have them in NYC you should probably consider running with a pace group. I ran with one in Philly and I think it helped me not go out too fast at the start. That didn't stop me from blowing up at the end (I ran with the 3:50 pace group through 18 miles and ended up with a 4:06), though. The downside to pace groups is that they are usually very crowded. If you are shooting for 4 hours, that will probably be one of the most crowded pace groups of all.

Jodi ICE ICE ICE! I am an icing fiend now. I've been having minor issues with shin splints for the last month or so and I basically ice my shins non-stop. After my runs I pull the ice packs out of the fridge and put them on. At night while watching TV I put the ice packs on. We have two so I switch them out when one gets too warm. I figure icing can't hurt and the more ice the better.

Mike Did you win the powerball jackpot and not tell us? Seems like you have been on vacation for months now. I'm jealous

Dave I know what you mean about running too fast when the weather is nice. Sometimes you can't help it. When I really need to run slow, I'll sometimes run on the treadmill because then I can set it to a slow pace and I won't be tempted to cheat.

Howard Cindy and I took golf lessons a few years back. We were terrible and decided to take up a sport that requires less hand-eye coordination (aka running). I'd like to thing that running is less expensive, but then again a $500 goofy entry x2 will pay for a lot of rounds of golf.

For myself, I'm enjoying the cooler weather. I ran 8 miles yesterday with 5x600 meter intervals at the track and I ran 11 miles this morning. Running intervals at the track is tough, but fun because it is something different. Most of my runs are long and slow, so it is nice to speed up every once in a while.

Thanks everyone for the well wishes. We make it CA without any problems and had a nice first half of the week visiting a friend in LA and hanging at the beach with a side trip to Legoland for DD6. We are now at Disneyland and having a good time although I have not run in 4 days and am feeling like a slug-- gotta hit the gym for a few miles tomorrow. The weather heere has been insanely hot like near 100 degree hot, so I'm hoping it cools down for the race.

Lou: Nice job on the long runs, it sounds like you will be in good shape for NYC

Jodi, Howard, and Dave: I'm hoping your ailing heels, knees and shins all respectively heal-- I second the ibuprofen and ice routine, hopefully all is well by the time the weather is really cooperating for some runs

Dave: Why did I think you were coming to DL this year? Enjoy hanging with the girls this week and getting in that last bit of "summer stuff"

Chester: we'll miss you our here, but will try to catch up with you at ToT

Jen - :worship:. That's me praying to weather gods for you! 100?:scared1: I hope it cools down for you!

Matt - I mean Mindy. I hate track work. I always feel like I'm standing still while doing my "speedwork". Popping pills & icing!:thumbsup2

Howard - How's the knee?

Colleen - Recovered from that 12 yet?:guilty:

Dave - Shins? How's the ToT training going?

Lou - RU gonna run an ultra this weekend for training?:thumbsup2

Chester - Successfully dodging lightning down there?

:snooty:  Hi to everyone I missed!

Heel's feeling much better - a little twinge here & there. Resisting the urge to run until Sat. a.m. Thinking I should go out slow with maybe a 3-4 miler, then the same on Sunday. Sat. is a scheduled 8 :sad2:. Man I suck!

Chester - So...what's YOUR key to staying injury free???:hippie::hippie: You're like a running FREAK & haven't gotten injured once.popcorn::

Jodi
Hardly injury free. I developed "runners knee" during training for my second WDW Full when I decided to run a Cross Country marathon instead of a schedule 18 miler. Learned lesson number one: Don't run 26.2 miles through woods grass and sand if you only train on pavement. My knee went out at 18 miles and I had to walk the rest of the way to finish. I kept training on the injured knee with runs until the pain started which was usually less than 8 miles, since that was when the knee seemed to go out. At the 2007 WDW Full I got in 16 miles running before the knee gave up and had to walk the rest of the way.

Early training for 2007 MCM was interrupted following double hernia surgery and recovery.

That was followed by a pain in my left hip while training for 2008 Goofy. The pain would start after I got up from sitting for long periods of time. I would usually go away after a mile or so. I kept training on it and it eventually went away.

While for 2008 Philly, I had abdominal pains that felt like a hernia but weren't. The Doc said it was an adhesion and to rest. So, I kept running since it would always seem to go away within 20 minutes of running.

Now I have a pain in my right heel, especially when I wake up in the morning. It is also noticeable after sitting for extended periods of time. It usually goes away very quickly once I'm up and about. It has never bothered me while running, so I keep on running.

I occasionally have miscellaneous pains that crop up while running but I "Chi" them away.

Chester - Successfully dodging lightning down there?

Jody
Yesterday was a two-a-day to avoid late work and storms. I did a 3 interval run in the morning and a 6 mile easy run in the evening. I timed the easy run just right and the storm hit 5 minutes after I got home. Now I'm caught up and have a 3 mile interval run scheduled tonight.

Colleen
I want a 1 hour massage too.

Bots all for now.
