~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

Hey everyone!

Chester - I guess I am not telling you anything you haven't already heard but I would get that checked out ASAP. That's pretty high and odd that it happens early in runs. It's not equipment failure is it?

Jodi - Have you seen these headphones: http://www.apple.com/ipod/inearheadphones/

Colleen - Good luck with the new shoes!

Howard - Nice job with the 15 miles.

Hope everyone had a great weekend. Got in 8 on Saturday, rode on a boat all day and night on Sunday, road the bike for 12 miles yesterday and did some XT cutting down trees. Decided to go to Sears and buy a chainsaw because I was getting annoyed at the trees all around the house. It was actually fun to just hack away. Now I feel like I boxed 12 rounds. Ran 5 miles today.

Kids go back to school tomorrow.

Lou

Good Morning Everyone: We all survived the first day of school here yesterday, and today is DW's birthday.

As far as training goes after my 6 miles on Saturday,

Ran 1 mile with the girls on Sunday
3 miles for me on Monday
and I swogged 30 min yesterday.

Have a great day my friends.

Well, I've completed all scheduled runs for the first 4 weeks of Honolulu training.

I've done quite a bit of searching on the early heart rate issue and have not been able to come to a conclusion. I had found earlier that some people have had the problem because of chest strap contact as Matt mentioned. I've been using an electrode gel for the last 4 years that I've been heart rate training and up until just recently haven't had a problem. I've also tried just spit and also liquid soap but it hasn't changed the spike. I even tried wearing the electrodes in the back instead of the front but it has not made a difference. I guess I'll shave my chest next to see if it matters.

I've tried to take my pulse when the spike happens, but as soon as I start walking, the heart rate drops before I can make a count and there is no way I can count while I run. I may see if I can find a heart rate watch or monitor that doesn't use a chest strap and see how that reads.

In the mean time, I'm not overly concerned because I am very familiar how I feel at various heart rate levels. The spikes are happening when I'm going at an 11:00 - 12:00 mpm pace and the effort is matching the pace. Additionally, I haven't seen any spikes when monitoring heart rate when using the stationary bike at the gym, whic takes heart rate through the hands.

I've got some charts to show the Doc on the 14th of what has been happening recently and how my heart reacts historically.

All is well in Bottville.

Chester - Have you taken the fact that you're starting your runs in front of a Hooter's into account?

Dave - I hope DW had a great BD. How is work for you? Are you teaching classes this fall?

Howard - Any ills from your 15 miler?

Hey, I've been married to the same woman for 25 years so of course that will make my .......ER, what I meant to say was that has no effect on my heart rate at all.

Hello Bots!

I went to log into the boards the other day and I actually typed www.bots.com into the browser window. That doesn't link to the boards, unfortunately.

Anyway, another week of running for me. 5 miles on Tuesday, 6 miles on Wednesday and 10 miles this morning. None of it was particurly fast, just regular old plodding along type running. I'm sort of getting nervous because Baltimore is coming up really fast. It is only about a month away and I'm quickly running out of training time.

Jodi As for headphones, the only headphones I can use are the kind that loop over your ears. All of the ipod type headphones that stick into your ear are too big for me and always fall out. I go through headphones pretty quick, so I usually buy the cheapest pair I can find at target.

ACKKK!!! Jodi, I am so sorry, sweetie! Howard asked me to get on here to tell you about my headphones and I got really tied up on a case (culminated in being in NY yesterday - left home at 5:45 a.m. and my train arrived back in Wilmington at ~12:15 a.m. -- can you say "FRIED"?). Anyway, I have a pair that I love -- they are Phillips and they go over the ear, like Matt said. Everything else I have tried is too big and they don't stay in when I am running. What I like about these is they cover the ear canal but don't go so far in that they are uncomfortable. I find they are very secure when I run (actually, when I USED TO RUN) because they loop over the ear. I hope that helps.

As for me, I walked about 1.5 miles in NYC yesterday from Penn Station to Park Avenue and my knee hurts today. It probably doesn't help that I did that in heels on so much uneven sidewalk and street surface. Hoping to get out for a few miles this weekend to see if there is any way my knee will survive several miles at 4 mph. Need heaps and heaps of pixie dust. ;)

Miss you all! Hugs and all that mushy stuff.

Oh, one last thing -- how many BOTS will be at Race for the Taste? My HUGE 2 week trial starting October 13 just settled, so I am really looking forward to RftT weekend! :woohoo:

Cam - We would love to be going but unfortunately are not. I'm sure you deserve the break. PD coming your way for your 4 mph miles.

Matt - Maybe we should register that Bot web address. Jodi and Lou could post there no plan running plans there! Have you hit your 55 mile week yet?

Chester - :rotfl:

Colleen - Rest day for me today too. Good luck on the LR.

I hope to get a decent LR in the next day or two as well. We're getting ready for a yard sale this weekend and that may interfere a bit. That reminds me, if anyone wants to come and buy some crap that we no longer want, I mean get great deals on precious family heirlooms, feel free to drop in!

Hi guys:love:

Since I'm being called out on FB, I am posting real quick and promise to catch up on posts and check in again later today.

I have signed up for WDW .

Moving is coming along but it's not a great thing when you still own your other home since you have no motivation to deal with all of the accumulated junk and just hope to ignore it until it goes away:lmao: My BIL and SIL are buying our "house of horrors" and want to move in soon so I need to get it done no matter how much I'd like to WISH it away.

I've painted more rooms than I care to admit:confused3

The second dog is great yet I find myself spending way too much time walking dogs! Thankfully, the invisible fence guy is coming to give an estimate tonight. I really need time to run and train for real for WDW:thumbsup2

I haven't run in over two weeks:scared1:. Luckily, my stress levels have been so high that I can't keep any weight on so no worries there:rotfl:.

Miss you guys terribly:grouphug:. I'll be back soon to post intelligently after I catch up on posts. Really happy to be committed to WDW in January:hippie: I desperately need some sense of familiarity in my life and know seeing my WISH family again is exactly what I need:love:

Good Morning Bot teammates: Hope everyone is doing well. I've been continuing to alternate running, swogging, and biking. Cardiovascularly I'm in good shape, but my shin is still bothering me. I've been doing lots of icing, etc. I've been trying to get my girls out running 1 mile at least 3x/week. This week was a little tough to find time with school in session now, but we'll get out and do our mile after I get home from work.

Other than that, there hasn't been too much going on. I just wanted to pop in and touch base.

I had a new blog put up this week, if anyone wants to procrastinate on a Friday reading it.

:cool1::cool1:Yeah!! Sara will be there!! SO glad you checked in.:banana:LIke Cindy said, all the BOTS will be there!!

BEautiful morning here in NC. 65 degrees, a little overcast to start, I got my 15 miles in, I probably ran a total of 7 miles and walked 8, (knee still isn't great from my 12 miles a few weeks ago). These 15 miles are SO much easier than the 12 miles mentioned earlier. New shoes were great too! :dance3:

Hope everyone gets in good runs this weekend!!:grouphug:

Is anyone else happy Ellen is the new judge on American Idol? We don't watch television during the week, so we DVR a few shows and then watch them on the weekend. Well, AI is one of those shows, we would always get through it quickly because we never wanted to hear what Paula and Kara had to say. :rolleyes:Anyway, I think Ellen will be entertaining.:thumbsup2

Hi Cam:wave2:

Chet and I will be participating in RftT and Tracy should be there for the Weekend with us. It will be good to see you again.

Sara
It's great that you'll be at WDW 2010. Now who am I going to get to run the full in Tracy's place? She is supposed to be training for Honolulu, but she has yet to chalk up any miles. Anyone want to run in Tracy's place December 13th?

I've got 6 miles to make up from Wednesday tonight and then get in a 6 and a 12 during the weekend.

Have a Botastic weekend.

A BOT cruise to Alaska....ALWAYS wanted to go to AK. But I'm also dying to see what the new cruise ship has to offer in early '11. We'll see...

I'm glad to see everyone posting, :grouphug: & also glad that we'll all be in Disney in Jan. So we're doing the German drinkfest, right? How 'bout "drink around the world"? Sunday night. I can't believe Disney has the nerve to charge for an "after hours' celebration party on Sun. night. What a bunch of d-bags - bad enough we pay so much $$ to torture ourselves running around that place, :lmao:.

All about me now - I know, I'll comment on everyone posts tomorrow, but right now I need your positive vibes for tomorrow a.m.'s scheduled run. I'm supposed to do like 14 or something, but I'm going to try for 10 - 12. Don't wanna shock my feet too much as I haven't been running too much lately. I am just SO not into running that far. Oh well!

I'll check back in tomorrow!popcorn:: Good luck to everyone else going out tomorrow!

Yes, I think I will wait for the Dream in '11 too!

GOOD VIBES for tomorrow's run!!!!!:cheer2::cheer2::cheer2:

Good luck with your long runs this morning everyone. I can't get out there this morning. We're heading to Ithaca for the memorial service for DW's grandmother. Have a good day everyone.

Dave - How was the memorial service? I admire your CTing while your shin is beat...I just tend to give up when I can't run. Massage that shin, push the splintered bone back in place!

Cam - Thanks for the ear-hole-challeneged advice. I think I'm just going to have to stick with earphones that go over the ears. I can't even use the ones that loop around the ears, as they just fall off as well?:confused3. WISH I was going to RftT!. I really wanted to go to the last ToT, but with NYC looming, I just couldn't swing it.:sad2: Pick me up in that car of yours when you get it!;) How'd that 4 miler go?

Howeird - How ya feelin' after that 15 miler?

ThetaWench - I'm not sure how Ellen will be on AI. I do enjoy here sense of humor, but watching Paula fumble her words while she trying to speak an intelligent sentence was half the fun!:lmao: Congrats again on that 15 :worship:.

Sara - So happy you'll be @ Disney! Arrival? Departure? Accomodations? Accompanied by?

Lou-ser - How's that fund raising going anyway? PDR on the horizon?

Mindy - Think I'm going to try kid's headphones! You guys all set for Baltimore? Sorry I bailed, but I need to save $ so I can show Colleen the sights in NYC! Still can't believe it'll be her first time there!

Chester-link - What is this marathon entry you have available in Dec.? When do you leave for HI, anway? How's the ticker?

Mikey - Will the Disney full (part of the Goofy), be Kathy's first marathon?? How's the Richmond training going for you? Should I make my Boston hotel reservation now?popcorn::

I ran 12 miles this a.m. It felt pretty ok, actually. Took a hot bath afterward. The feet feel OK, a little stiff after sitting for a while, but I'll deal. The real test will be when I get out of bed tomorrow a.m.

So, when are we doing that relay race, peeps? April Civil War relay???:rolleyes1popcorn::
