~The BOT Battalion~ BOTS On The Run

I've been bothered by some bad Philadelphia running news the past 2 weeks. First a 23-yr-old woman dies in Fairmount Park when she gets hit in the head by a tree branch while jogging with an iPod. Now two female joggers have been raped in the park in broad daylight. I jog these paths a lot so it's real troubling to hear this. Sad thing is that the city budget crunch has involved cutting back the police presence in the park and they already said there are no plans to improve cell service anytime soon. I kind of feel like you almost have to run with pepper spray anymore.

Lou
Lou- Wow, that is scary to hear the news about the park. That would be very disturbing and troubling. Hope you're doing OK dealing with it. Take care of yourself.

Dave - More angry about it than anything else. Really sucks that stuff like this has to happen. A few months ago something like this happened in Philly and the local neighborhood people caught the guy the next day and beat him right on the street with 2x4's. Hate to say it but I'm kind of hoping the locals find these guys or guy. The whole thing just has me in a bad mood.

I was shocked to hear about the attacks too. I heard earlier in the spring that the trail I run on in Oaks near Valley Forge had reports of people being harrassed (nothing near as serious as the Fairmont Park attacks though). I haven't run there since. I won't go on my own either. I am going to try to get DBF to go with me a few times per week, but no luck with that yet. At least when I run in the city I will be running with the TnT group and not by myself.

Hi Bots,

Lou: Very disturbing news. It's scary how unsafe this world can be. On a training note, I agree there are plenty more runs to be had once the weather is cooler. I hope you enjoyed your time at the beach.

Colleen: Glad you were able to get some training in. 8 weeks is a lot of time for getting ready for your race.

Dave: So cool that your DD wants to run the race with you.

Chester: So nice that you have the option to go running at 10 PM. I imagine it must be quite quiet.

Howard: I saw the pics on FB, that was some serious deforestation you did. I'm sure your mother is very happy with the results. I hope your aches and pains have subsided.

Mike: I'm glad you continue to enjoy your vacation. I am pretty familiar with the Baystate course. It's 2 loops. I've done the 1/2 marathon once and the full last year, so I've been thru it 3 times so far. I'm intimitely familiar with the last 10 yds of the course since this is where I went face first onto the dirt and tried to crawl to the finish line last year. Hoping for a slightly better result this year.

There is nothing on my schedule for the next week and a half that should interfere with my training plan so I've made a committment to stick exactly to the plan. Then after my speed workout yesterday my hip started hurting. It's not a ITB pain, but something else. With the help of Google I self-diagnosed piriformis syndrome, but it might not be that at all. I have an appt with my Chiropractor this afternoon. Maybe he'll have a more professional opinion. I'm taking tons of Advil right now, but that's just hurting my stomach and my hip still hurts.

Have a great day everyone.
Cindy

Lou
Want to borrow the loin cloth and Bowie knife? I guess I'm lucky that I only have to contend with 4 legged animals on my runs.

Colleen
It's happy hour at work right now. I need to get back to my freelance project though so I can get home and put in a fast 3 miles yet tonight.

Back to work for me.

Chester

Dave - Cool comment from DD.

CindyLou - I hadn't forgotten your dramatic finish. I just wasn't sure if that was the same race.

Lou - It's tough when that kind of news hits that close to home. We had some scary stuff like that this summer right outside the pool where the girls were on swim team. Very disturbing.

Howard - Again I say, yard work and training are not compatible. I guess you have to make an exception for mom but still...

Colleen - I think I'll keep my Crowne Plaza ressie. Gettin' pretty speedy there young lady!

Megan - I'm glad you will have the TnT group runs. Good luck getting company for your others.

Chester - I like running at night at home. Here, I can't seem to get motivated.

That brings me to my training update: 3 more beers, 1 margarita, and half a dozen or so chocolate chip cookies.:thumbsup2

I love running at night too. :thumbsup2 DH doesn't like me going out alone, so he has come with me a few times.

MIke, I too would keep your Crowne Plaza reservation. I am still holding out hope for some cancellations either there are at the Hilton, but it looks like rates are just rising. Speaking of rising, my hotel for NYC has gone up $150 a night.:scared1:

Hey growing-BOT-lineup!

FatBashterd/Mike - Glad to hear you're having fun & indulging, you deserve it!!! MUST share an Optimator with you & the rest of the BOTS on Sunday after the marathon! :woohoo:Is Kathy feeling better?:guilty:

Colleen - I'm here now!! RU still wasted-away-again-in-Margaritaville?/Happy hour? I'd LOVe to talk to you in this state. So does this me you will indulge in a few celebration drinks after the NYC marathon?
Nice training update - you go girl!:thumbsup2

Cindy - What's up with that 55miles a week plan? THAT again? How soon we forget Philly. Remember what you said? That you were gonna do MY plan for you next marathon??? HMMMM?????;)

CindyLou - A face plant?? That's so cool! I mean, as long as you weren't hurt or anything :rolleyes1. But that's such a dramatic way to end a marathon. Besides, you run too fast anyway! Some jealous competitor probably stuck their foot out!

Chester - 10 @ night? Holy carp! I've been in bed for like, an hour, by then. 95 degrees? You're insane. Hasn't anyone told you that you're old & shouldn't be out in such conditions?:rotfl2: WISH I was going to a fall race down in the World, but then I remembered that Idon't have any $ :headache:

Lou - That is sucky news down in Philly. Bruce gave me this wicked pepper spray gun-thingy with a clip on it a while ago. I don't carry it every time I run, which really kind of defeats the purpose, b/c you know the day I need it....:scared1:. I had someone slow down once & come to a complete stop & it scared the crap out of me, even though nothing happened. Always vigilant, peeps - be careful out there!

Sara - Moving?popcorn::

Howard - If i pay for your train fare will you come do yardwork for us?? Running? How's Cam?

Dave - Too cute that your daughter wants to run ToT...you GOTTA go now, otherwise you're a mean dad & we'll all know it!

I'm running & stuff . It's all so silly because I suck so bad. Oh well. I don't think I'll be doing my scheduled LRs of 18 & 20 miles this time around. I'm gonna test my less-is-more theory & run 15/16 mile race pace runs instead....popcorn::
Mom, son & nephews went to FL today; Kennedy Space Center tomorrow & 3 night cruise on Thursday. I took Spencer to his high school yesterday :guilty: to meet his guidance counselor, tour the school & get his schedule. sigh....a freshman. Heck, I remember 9th grade - scary stuff.

More yard work? Well..if you let me bunk with your dogs in Chez Jodi, maybe. :thumbsup2

Running... No. Not just yet. I have the best of intentions but I have been busy after work and exhausted in the early morning hours before work. The last two nights I've been out with Cam test driving automobiles. Last night, the BMW 1-Series convertible in Wilmington, tonight the Audi A5 Cabrioletin Wilmington and the BMW-1 Series in West Chester, PA. Both nights I got home after 8 PM after going straight from work to the dealerships.

So... I'll try it again tomorrow.

Cam is dealing with pain, seeing the PT dude and seeing her physical trainer to do upper body work. She is contemplating a cortizone shot, but wants to avoid that at all costs. She is having the PT dude tape it because it relieves some of the pain.

Mike and CindyLou~ That kind of yard work is a once in a lifetime. It took almost 20 years to grow that way and one day to un-do it.

:grouphug:

Howard

Just figured I'd let you all know that my scheduled 40 minute "run" this a.m. turned in to a 40 minute "wander" around the neighborhood. Just didn' have it in me to run...that's OK, I think I'm supposed to be tapering by now anyway, right?:rolleyes1.

Howard - Tell Cam I said to hang in there & stay away from that shot!!

Dave - Too cute that your daughter wants to run ToT...you GOTTA go now, otherwise you're a mean dad & we'll all know it!
Ah, supportive as always Jodi. ;) Hey, will Spencer be able to see the shuttle launch? It should be going up any day now. That would be awesome!

I've been continuing my swogging. The shin feels fine, and I'll start running on it next week.

:drive: Drive by post..

Got out for 3 miles this morning. Hopefully some additional miles tonight. Details later!

Have a great one!

Braggart!!

Going to do a drive-by training update. I'll try to post more at lunch.

Started my 12 week plan on Monday. It was a rest day. I think I accomplished that rather well.:thumbsup2 Ran 8 yesterday morning and rest day again today (the first 2 weeks of the plan only have 4 days of running ). 9 on the schedule for tomorrow.

Mike and Cindy, Just had to share, I found a room at the Doubletree Richmond for the marathon. The agent said they had been sold out for marathon rate for months, but one room just showed up. The marathon rate is $123 a night, much better than the $230 I had at my back up hotel.

Must be the room that Jodi cancelled.
