The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Sheryl- every time you post a pic of Bob I smile. I don't know why but he looks so familiar, there has got to be someone on TV who looks just like him but for the life of me I have no idea who it is. Oh well..

Nancy, I hate to say this, cause my poor hubby would be mad. But the only tv personality I can think of, that he sort of looks like is Chef Paul Prudhomme! Only about 200 lbs lighter! All those Cajun French Guys look alike! ;)

Sheryl, those chops look good. For those who have made them, do you think the flavors would work with chicken? I don't eat pork chops--I've hated them my whole life. Once when I was a kid, my parents tried to get around my pork chop aversion and get me to eat them by telling me that they were venison hoofs! I hate "venison hoofs" too. ;)

Oh those tarts & eggs look so delicious!!! :thumbsup2

I agree with Gretchen, that recipe would work just as well with chicken. The flavors that stood out to me, were the garlic (maybe I was a little heavy handed with it) the mustard & the brie.

:rotfl: And, I'm sure it goes without saying, good wine. ;)

Me too! But I could never figure out why. I just thought it was because he had one of those cute smiles and kind faces.

I don't know why it wouldn't work with chicken. The predominant flavors are the dijon and the brie and I think both would work well with chicken.

You know me too well! Never waste wine or cheese!

DH will like your cute & kind comment a lot better than looking like Paul Prudhomme!!!

Kathy,
I'm going to try your red beans and rice this weekend and I wanted to know whether or not you soaked the beans overnight first. I have a confession. I've never, ever, cooked dried beans. So any tips that a first timer needs I'd love to have.

TIA
Gretchen

Gretchen, If can't soak them overnight, start soaking in the morning in hot water. A couple of hours will do.

I know I've been AWOL for a while - lots of boring summer sandwich suppers. Nothing really writing home about, KWIM? For some reason, however, last night's meal of home-made chicken nuggets, watermelon, cantaloupe, and fresh cucumber & creole tomato salad just screamed summer. I am loving the produce stand this time of year!

We've had a salad with dinner the past couple of nights. Last night I sliced up the pork chops & put them on the salad. Butter lettuce, arugula, spiced pecans, blue cheese & of course creole tomatoes! Creoles make everything so good!

Ok, I'm back with details. Let me warn you- this is a VERY long story.

On the other hand I have my mother:

-married my dad, divorced him after he cheated on her
-raised me pretty much herself
-took awesome care of me after I had my wreck
-married my stepfather and they've been married for 16 years
-she raised me better than that

This is what I keep telling myself. But I have been on an emotional roller coaster lately and I really want off. I truly don't think I can look at my dad the same way again and he has no idea.

I'm sorry if I worried you guys. I thank you if you made it through this long story.

Oy.

Lindsay, I'm sure people look at you & see your Mom. And what a good person you are!! I can't even imagine anyone comparing you to the rest of that bunch! Prayers are coming for you!

Lindsay -- I am sorry you are going through this. You are a good person, and I am sure people will not judge you on the actions of your father, and certainly God won't! As for your father, I think you should tell him you know. It will be difficult to pretend that you don't, and he will not understand what is making you act strangely. That won't be an easy conversation to have, but at least if your dad knows how you feel, he can give you the space, time, or whatever it is you need to figure out how to resolve this crisis in your relationship with him. Take care of yourself, and don't think this has anything to do with you or who you are as a person.

There has been WAY too much discussion about Flake bars on this thread. I'm sure I could find one if I looked, but it is much better to not go down that road. However, you have me eating all the toffee Becky made me take home for the kids!

Just so you don't think our parents are crazy, they never told Becky they were serving venison hoof. They told her the pork chops were venison (why they thought telling a little girl she is eating a deer would make her more willing to eat something, I don't know :confused3 ) and after taking a few bites, Becky asked if it was really venison. My parents, in a bold lie, said yes. Then Beck said, "I think I got the hoof!"

Dinner tonight is chicken wings in Lauren's famous marinade, fried rice, sugar snap peas and bok choy.

Oh yeah, I remembered wrong. Well, I still don't like "venison hoof."

Change of menu for tonight at John's request. We are having barbequed chicken, mac and cheese, and whatever vegetable I can find in the crisper drawer.

:rotfl2: :rotfl: Y'all are too funny! Venison hoof really doesn't sound very tasty at all!!

Tonight I'm thinking tuna, asian style & maybe an asparagus/mushroom noodle dish.

Hi you guys. For those of you who pray, please pray for me. I am going through a lot right now and am not sure how to deal with it all. I'm coping the best I can, but prayers never hurt anyone, right?

Second of all, the sin's of the father are not also the sins of the daughter!

Right on! :thumbsup2

My own father has been married 7 or 8 times! Why you might ask, because the idiot doesn't believe in living with a woman outside marriage. ::yes::

The first time was not long out of high school when he married a woman who was pregnant by another guy. She gave the baby up for adoption and later ended up married to the baby's father. Dad knew about the baby and the fact that she wouldn't keep it and gave it up was what ended that one.

The second was my mother, the only one he had children with thank goodness. They were married for 6 years and had 4 kids, me, my sis and twin brothers.

One of the wives was only a few years older than me and the last one he divorced because she actually had the audacity to expect him to help pay the bills. :sad2:

The reason I said 7 or 8 was because he had this woman living with him and my grandmother was sure they were married because of his belief about it.

We haven't had contact with him in years, dear old dad is a few fruit loops short of a whole bowl. Case in point, my sister's middle name is his first wifes first name! ;)

Lindsay - I agree with Nancy, you didn't need to know this. But since you do, take comfort in the way you were raised and the wonderful marriage you have and don't worry about the other stuff.

Gretchen - I haven't pre-soaked my beans in over 20 years and they cook in about 3 - 4 hours. Can't think of any tips off hand right now but feel free to ask away or PM me.;)

Hi Guys! I am a little sad now...we are leaving tomorrow and A still has paralysis on his right side. That makes me so so sad. :sad1: This could last for a while; there is no real way of knowing when it will go away. We have an appt with his pediatrician on Monday afternoon after my biopsies...:scared1: I just spoke to my dr and she is prescribing something to calm me.

Its raining here now but hopefully it will stop so we can go back to DHS...we have fastpasses for Rockin Roller Coaster.

I wish everyone well.

Almost forgot, a friend of mine is going to be out of town on my birthday so she gave me a present today....Cooking with Mickey cookbooks!! I was so excited....y'all probably all have them but if someone doesn't and needs a recipe just let me know.:goodvibes

What are the recipes? From the parks, resorts, etc?

Kat, I have the book from almost 20 years ago. Let us know what is good!

PS: I just posted on the booze thread. No pics yet though.

Thank you. I am so glad that there is no pain involved but it just saddens me to see him like this...he got a lopsided smile in alot of the pics. :worried:

Oh sweetie, that just breaks my heart. Let's try and stay positive, this is only temporary.

Lauren Give A a big  I am praying he gets better quickly. You he need to relax and get rest.

Lindsay  This is a great burden for you. Believe me if people are looking at you and trying to judge you based on your parents sins they are not people you need around you. Hold you head up and smile you are a good person you are not your parents. We are here to support you and each other.

Lauren, Praying for Andrew to get better real soon!!!

Kathy, Nice Friend!!:goodvibes I have one of them, that Chris gave me a few years back. But if I'm looking for something, I'll know who to ask!

For dinner, I decided to grill the veggies & tuna. DH is working late, so I'm waiting to do the tuna. I made an asian dressing & with serve the veggies over soba noodles.

:Good luck. I quit coloring mine about three years ago because I was tired of the surprise I always got. My stylist, who I loved, always kind of did what she wanted to, no matter what I asked for. The final straw was when I asked for a redish tint (to my dark brown hair) and ended up VERY blond. When I gasped and said "this isn't red", her reply was "but it's summer". :worried:

You jinxed me :rotfl: ...let me just say I wanted blonde highlights to my dark brown hair and ended up with your requested redish highlights.

It is not bad, but not what I had in my mind so now I am ticked off that I spent a $100 on it. My DH loves my natural dark brown hair, but I was a highlighted blonde when we met. I needed a change, but I am so disappointed and dont want to tell DH that...he thinks color is what I requested. I feel like I wasted $$$ and wont be doing it again anytime soon.

ugh.......Ann

Lindsay, no reflection on you at all. You are lucky to be blessed with such a strong Mom... This to shall pass
