The All-New What's For Dinner Thread!!(recipe index in OP)

Alexis has been rather needy this week. The wake & funeral is tomorrow. I will be taking her, instead of having her there the whole time, especially when the family first gets there. Say some prayers that she gets through it okay.

You know I'll say prayers for her. It is good that you are taking her, then you can take her home when she has had enough. How is your DSIL doing?

I ended up leaving work early today my head couldn't take the phone calls and the chatter. It is finally feeling better. I really dislike getting older I keep telling myself just a few more years of this and no more hormone headaches. I think I would welcome a migrane I can handle those better.

I hate those headaches. I wonder if stress doesn't contribute to them.

Morning, everyone! It's July 24th which is Pioneer Day here in Utah. We celebrate the day that the pioneers first entered the Salt Lake Valley. It's a big statewide celebration. Unfortunately, I'm not feeling up to the usual round of parades, etc., so the kids and I will do our own thing here around the house.

I usually fry some chicken and make potato salad for a picnic while we wait for fireworks, but I'm thinking that I'll simply pick some stuff up from KFC. Easier and I don't have to heat up my house. I will make some buttermilk ice cream, however. My neighbor turned me on to it, and it is delicious!!!

I have my ultrasound at 10:45 a.m. tomorrow morning. Keep up the good thoughts. I'll let y'all know how it goes once I'm home.

Go for the KFC! I would kill for some of that right now ;)

I'll be saying prayers for you and hope that you update us...Blue or pink? blue or pink?

Lauren- I'm glad that your back is better.

But tonight's dinner was what I had planned for last night. I gave in when Rick said he wasn't that hungry and instead had cheddar kettle chips with blue cheese dip.

Yea, healthy I know.:sad2:

Mmmm, that sounds good. I actually have a recipe for blue cheese chips, similar to the ones at WPC, but I've never made them. DH doesn't like blue cheese :confused3

Hope it goes well!

Aimee Do you have a Penzey's by you? They have all kinds of spices.

I do - but I've never been. I should go!

Here is a picture of last night's chowder. It was really good. I made it creamy by pureeing some of the corn and adding it back to the soup instead of using heavy cream like I normally would. But, as you can see from the bacon, it still would not qualify as healthy! On the side are little sandwiches with gouda cheese and a fruit chutney.

Oh my, that looks delicious. Too bad it's too hot here for soup.

I'm glad you're doing that for her. It always pains me when children are forced to endure the entire visitation, funeral, gravesite, etc at younger ages. Sometimes it's just too much for a child but there usually isn't anyone available to remove them when they have had enough. Alexis is lucky to have you along.

I think I have pulled every muscle in my back today. We had to do THE trip to Sam's for the food and supplies for next week's day camp. We're feeding 150 kids lunch each day and I had to buy all the stuff for it. 2 flatbeds loaded down and the dadgum Sam's clerk scanned an item and then had me transfer it to another dadgum cart so I unloaded it and loaded it twice before loading it in the van and then unloading it all again at the church. :sad2:

VBS/Day Camp is a lot of fun once it starts but the prep just about kills me each summer. We start Monday and go 9am-3pm every day. I am not going in tomorrow and instead making my intern go in (:rotfl: ) but I will be doing last minute shopping on Sat to get anything she can't track down tomorrow.

Have I mentioned how much I love having an intern this summer? :cool1:

Even though I found a red tandoori spice that I think will work for my recipe, I caved and drove through McDonalds for an iced coffee and chicken sandwich. It was worth the calories that I already worked off this afternoon

Aimee- your poor back! I don't understand why the clerk did not help you. I am still spinning trying to keep up with your summer, fun or not, this is a lot of work.

Yesterday was a bit of a challenge for me, fast food wise. Kady can have the burger at McDonald's but it needs to be ordered special. The one near us never gets it right but the last time it was wrapped correctly, had the correct special order tag so I brought it home. Again it was covered in cheese...I scraped it all off but she was scared to eat it. So I called and complained and the manager told us to come in for a free meal for Kady and one for me. YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So I drooled while Buddy ate his Big Mac and fries along with two more Macs and I had my chicken and quinoa. It was so good right up until I started smelling fries. :lmao:

Good morning,

Shopping day with DM and DS. DH is working so we probably will get take-out Fish & Chips or maybe a Gyro.

Tomorrow night I am having my DP, SIL, DN & DN over for dinner while my DB is in NH this weekend for DN's softball tournament. I am trying to figure out a menu before I head to the grocery store.

Glynis, ;) thinking of you and your appt.

Have a nice day all!

Tomorrow is Pooh's birthday and tonight we are going to my mom's house. She is cooking him dinner :)

Good Morning!

Sheryl, Prayers said.

Janice, I hope you're feeling better today.

Aimee, Girl, you are having one crazy summer. I hope your back is better today. I forgot to mention, we are dining at Jiko on 11/5 if you are around that day, maybe we can meet up. I have never been to AKL so we are looking forward to it.

I am not sure about dinner. A is going to his dads so Tom may have left over braciole and I may have tomato soup and grilled cheese. Its still up in the air.

Have a great day all!

I am up and at work early today. My mother had to go have a procedure this morning and insisted that I drive her to it, usually she drives herself and I pick her up after, then we get her car later. When she is drugged up she doesn't have a problem with me driving, any other time there is no way. :rotfl:

Had a hot dog and sauted squash last night, didn't feel like doing a whole bunch of cooking. I'll have last nights dinner tonight.

Will be having last night's dinner here as well. The chicken didn't defrost as quickly as I would've liked. So, I picked up some sushi on the way back from the gym.

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl: My Mom always wanted me to drive but then she felt the need to "help" me with directions or the always exciting ever welcome....hands flying to the dashboard and EEEEEKKKKKKK !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was still better than letting her drive!

Lindsay- Happy Birthday to Scott!!!!!!!!!!

Dinner is up in the air here too. DH is still fretting over his plants, we are getting some help in this weekend (hopefully) so I have no idea if he is going to come home or sit and glare at the field.

Aimee - I agree, your summer has been something else girl.:faint: I'll bet you are enjoying that intern!;)

Glynis -Thinking of you, can't wait to hear from you!!

WFD - Take-out night!!:goodvibes

Morning y'all,

I wanted to do a quick: Thanks for all the prayers & warm wishes! Y'all are the best!

Nancy, Chris is fine but really tired. She's had to work this week & she put herself in charge of all the cooking for the family. She started right after they left the hospital. Then started on the food for after the wake & funeral today. My BIL Ricky is acting okay, but he's one of those guys who never lets his feelings show. Chris is worried about him.

Glynis, Saying Prayers for you this morning.:flower3:

Aimee, Hope your back is okay!

Thanks again everyone for the prayers today!

Chris gave herself a lot of work, but I imagine that this kind of work helps to channel all of the energy that grief can bring on. Your BIL sounds a lot like Buddy. He just gets quiet so you never know how he really is. I am thinking of all of you today, please give our little Iron Chef a big hug for me.

Glynis- I'll be checking in all day for news. Prayers and Pixie dust heading your way!

I remember what I wanted to ask. I want to make a blueberry cake and want to use a mix. I am going to follow the WW recipe of a cup of sprite to one cake mix and maybe 2 egg whites. Now I monkey around with recipes all of the time but never one that is already changed. Can I add fresh blueberries and should I adjust the liquid? How much BB's are safe to ad before the entire thing caves in?

Or.....I can make and Angel Cake. Then all I would be adding is the blueberries and maybe some lemon for flavor. Again, how many is okay? I usually add one can of cherry pie filling to one Angel cake mix so I don;t know if I should adjust the water to allow for the juice in the berries.

Sheryl - I'll be thinking of Alexis today and keeping your family in my prayers.

If anyone has an extra prayer to spare, I'm asking for it. I'm supposed to have a mammogram yearly, well it's been since 2004...Katrina, my parents passing...I just put myself on the back burner. I'm going for a mammogram this afternoon and kinda scared....:sad1:

Glynis, good luck this morning!

Muffin, I need to double check my notes on the changes I made, but I will post the recipe for you. Maybe tomorrow morning, if that's OK?

Hi to everyone else too! :)

We ate really late last night, so I made my standby 10-minute pasta fresca. I think the recipe is alredy posted here. 10 minutes from start to finish!

I'm not sure wfd yet--we might be going out.

Good luck! I'll be thinking of you. Have fun today...your plan to take it easy sounds like a good one.

Well, that plan flew out the window!

I had to run to the store to pick up a few things to make the buttermilk ice cream. While I standing in the checkout line, I began to get really hot. I wasn't too worried since I have been chugging water, and knew I wasn't dehydrated. It was my turn to pay, I swiped my card, and as I was inputting my zip code, I felt all the blood drain from my head. I put my head down to try to stave off the dizziness, and the next thing I knew I was on my back, surrounded by 15 employees, with a couple of them holding me down. They wouldn't let me up because apparently I fainted and hit my head really hard on the floor. The emergency response team came, and after about 10 minutes, they decided I didn't have any broken bones, a cracked skull, or a concussion. They slowly helped me up, took me to the office and made me lie down for another 15 minutes. They gave me water to drink, and then escorted me to my car. By this time, I had a knot the size of my palm on the back of my head, and my rear end was bruising up as well.

I stopped by my doctor's office on the way home, and told them what happened. They checked me out as well (by this time I was in shock), and agreed that I didn't have a concussion. My doctor said that my blood pressure is quite low, and I need to be careful to always have something to eat and drink at hand to help with these dips.

Alan was out of town on the mine story, but I called him and told him what had happened. Luckily, his work is very family oriented, and they sent someone else to cover for him, so he came home early. I spent the rest of the day yesterday in bed. Katie took care of me, and when Alan came home, he did too! I iced the bump on my head, and the knot is gone this morning, but it still hurts! I also iced my rear end, and it feels better, but it's where the majority of the pain is, now. Should be a fun day today!

Anyway, I'm fine now, and Alan is not letting me out of his sight! Next stop, the ultrasound! I'll update again as soon as I'm home.

Say some prayers that she gets through it okay.

Prayers said. I will be thinking of you both today.

I do - but I've never been. I should go!

I love Penzeys. I hope your back is feeling better this morning. You have such a busy week coming...take it easy today!

So I drooled while Buddy ate his Big Mac and fries along with two more Macs and I had my chicken and quinoa. It was so good right up until I started smelling fries. :lmao:

Good for you to resist!

 I hope your mom is okay.

 I can just picture this.

How scary! I am glad you are okay, but you really need to be careful! I'm thinking of you this morning and sending good thoughts your way!

We are having the burgers we couldn't have yesterday tonight.

Glynis, Please relax and take care of yourself. You had a very bad scare yesterday so sit back and let the family care for you.

Kathy, you will be fine...   I'll say a prayer for you.
