Tell me your thoughts about "The Secret"

I agree that there are plenty of complimentary techniques you both can do too. :)

Have both of you seen Randy Pauch's "Last Lecture"? He is so inspiring. He's already beaten the odds & lived longer than they already thought he would.

I'll dig up the link for those who haven't. It's so inspiring.

Taking down more names and notes. You know, there just isn't going to be enough time left for me on this earth to possibly read all the books suggested on this thread. But...I WILL try! And I really am grateful for all the wonderful suggestions for anything that will improve my mental outlook and ultimately my health. :thumbsup2

Randy's Last Lecture isn't a book. It was on Good Morning America.

Dr. Randy Pausch, professor of computer science at Carnegie Mellon, gave the "Last Lecture". It is part of a course at CM, where what would you say if you knew you had only one more lecture to give before you die. For Randy, his has turned out to be true. He has been diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer, and in his presentation, he spoke of his childhood dreams, his hopes, his life, and his family.

His interview touched & inspired sooo many people.

And people here noted that he was wearing a Disney Imagineering shirt and a Cast Member nametag!

Here it is, it's on YouTube. It's an hour long and fifteen minutes long.

It's something not to be missed though. Some souls are special like that. He teaches how we face death (or in your case - illness,) is very important, and a choice.

But be prepared, you'll go through a Kleenex box full of tissues. :sad1:

He was also on Oprah, but she made him do the lecture over & he had to rush it. It wasn't quite as good.

In any case, everything I suggest are just suggestions. People have to pick & choose for themselves if anything draws them to pick up & read or watch. Some things will work for some & not for others. :)

Now I remember him! Yes, he is an amazing human being and such an inspiration! :thumbsup2

Heading to bed. Not likely that I'll fall asleep any time soon but rest is good, too. "Talk" with you soon!

Have any of you seen Lady in the Water by M Night Shalayman? I watched it when it first came out and thought. "Not bad. An interesting story." Well, last night I was compelled to watch it again. I sobbed the entire way through because this time it spoke to me.

The external story was set up as a fairytale. A sea nymph is found at an apartment complex. Cleveland Heep, played beautifully by Paul Giamatti, makes it his mission to solve her mystery and help her get home.

The internal story is one of purpose, awakening, and connectedness to all. As the story goes on, people who you thought you could dismiss because they either seemed ordinary or strange became key in solving the mystery. These ordinary or bizarre people were suddenly an inspiration. They each had a vital purpose. And only by coming together (being connected) could they help the sea nymph get home.

I have been searching within for the last several months. I've been reading Deepak Chopra, Wayne Dyer, and Echardt Tolle. (I haven't read The Secret yet. It is on my list.) I have been struggling to find my purpose. I have been working on becoming a positive person and spreading that positivity to others. I've been reminding myself that all of us are more connected to each other than we realize.

Watching this movie again really spoke to me in a way that it didn't before because this time, I was ready for the message. I recommend this movie to anyone on this thread. If you are at the same point I am, you will get the message. If you've seen it before, but weren't impacted by it, try it again with the frame of mind of understanding your purpose.

I'm curious about this now and will search for it.

Finding purpose, becoming a positive person. Oh yes! And I agree that we're quite likely connected to each other more than we realize. (And for reasons I'm excited to learn, though I realize it may not happen in the "here and now".)

How did I do that? My remarks are "in the green" with the OP's message! Didn't know that could be done. JODY, I was "attempting" to address several of your remarks and hope you and others will see them. And by the way, really found the Chopra site to be quite good. Your links on pg. 8 sent me there.

I try to post a Thought for the Day thread just about every weekday on the CB. Once in a while I get a response. Most of the time, I don't. It does make me feel good to post a positive message. If it strikes a positive cord with someone else, so much the better.

JodyLyn, I missed the Lady in the Water film. I think it's the only M Night Shalayman movie I haven't seen. I'll have to look for it. :)

I liked the Deepak links you had posted. :thumbsup2 Here's a link to a Family Circle magazine The Secrets to Happiness article interviewing Deepak Chopra & Tony Robbins, that you and some others may find interesting. Deepak is one of Tony's lecturers/teachers at one of his seminars. http://www.tonyrobbins.com/PDFs/FamilyCircle.pdf

BTW, Debbie Ford, who I mentioned in a couple previous posts, is located out of the Deepak Chopra center. The positive/ healing community is really interwoven - kind of like 6 degrees of separation. :grouphug:

How about posting your "Thought for the Day" here so we can all find it? Or linking it here, too. More of a good thing is even better. :cool1:

Wow! I'm excited! Not only are you all encouraging and positive...
YOU'RE NIGHT OWLS! :cool1:

Everyone else I know on the Dis is gone by 8:00!

I'm gonna read a bit and re-watch "The Secret" again and I'll be back later...
hope to see some of you around!

I read it the other day. And I'll be darned if I can remember what it said, but I do remember thinking "I should go back and post when I get a chance" and I forgot.

But, just know: I did read it and it did make me think, in a very good way!!! :goodvibes

I'll keep my eye out for them now. I didn't know you post one each day.

I think that M Night Shalayman's movies all tend to have a deeper meaning. A lot of people miss that and I admit that I did when I watched Lady in Water. I'll have to give it another try.

I've had a difficult time being a positive person but I'm working on it! I suspect that at the right point our path becomes clearer but if we resist and reject too many things it all becomes muddled. I like the idea of letting go and everything falling into place but that letting go is the hard part part isn't it?

RELLA BELLA...did you give up and go to bed? This old night owl is here with :woohoo: and ready to chat. Sleep is for wimps!!!

Downloaded LADY IN THE WATER earlier and think it will make for a nice Sunday afternoon. :goodvibes

Just thought I'd toss in a little Sunday morning humor. :goodvibes
