Tell me the thruth is end of July tolerable?

if the parks are open late we reverse the "common wisdom" and spend a least a couple of days where everyone sleeps in, we swim first, then go to the park for the afternoon/evening. We do all indoor stuff during the afternoon, then the rides at night. (We're fair skinned and it cuts down on the constant sunscreen.)

We are thinking of going end of July through Aug 2nd. Are we going to be able to stand it? We live in California in a town called Valencia, which does get in the 100's in summer, but its a very dry heat...just worried we won't be able to enjoy the trip with the heat and humidity? But we also feel that it will be more fun during the summer since we can go to the waterparks and the theme parks will be open in the evening as well - which makes for a much longer day? What about the crowds - are they also unbearable in the summer? Our other option is Oct 4 thru 12, but I'm afraid everything will be closing early then, and its so much more fun to go back to the hotel in the afternoon and swim and then go back to the parks in the evening? HELP!
Hey there, Homie! How's the new attraction at MM (magic Mountain)? We too, live in So. Cal...where there is neither humidity or mosquitoes! LOL!!:p We have traveled to Orlando for the past 14 years (consecutively), staying for more than 7 weeks each trip. We actually seem to "acclimate" to the humidity after about a day. It "hits" me like a ton of bricks as soon as I pass through the electric doors of MCO. Yet, after a while, it's actually cathartic. There are SO many A/C places to "step" into for some relief...you will be fine. Drink lots of water "prior" to going out in the heat, and avoid the hottest times of day (2-5pm), if possible. The crowds are a beginning to wane the end of July, and not too bad at all. We'll be in the Magic from the last week of June through the second week of August. We pretty much stay on CALIF. time the entire stay. So we do not go to bed until 2-3 am (which is only 11-12 in Ca), and we sleep in each morning (a REAL vacation). We usually never go to the parks until late afternoon. Then mosquitoes come out after dark, so bring some SSS bath oil or OFF. I must admit though, we do enjoy the Captain's announcement each summer as we touch down in LAX, "It's a nice cool 69 degrees outside in Los Angeles"...LOL. Sure makes us appreciate the Golden State SO much more! ;)

I have planned my first summer trip to WDW: June 28-July6th. I have two young children (3.5 and infant). We plan to go to the parks early...pool at noon...nap...dinner...parks after 6. I am a little unsettled about how hot it might be. The kids come first, so the day is planned with them in mind. Has anyone visited during this time? Any other recommendations are welcomed.

end of september/beginning of october is still warm, maybe even hot, and humid. But it's a great time to go. :)

Our off season plan, with a toddler, is to get going as early as possible, see everything we want to (very easy with small crowds), eat lunch & be back at the room no later than mid afternoon. Then we swim/nap/hang out for a couple of hours. Eat an early dinner. At night we go to a park with later hours (MGM, epcot usually) or to the boardwalk or DD. Or even watch TV! :teeth:

Because you can see all of the attractions quickly, off season touring is very relaxing.

I can't take the heat + humidity + crowds of mid summer.

Hi brando5111:

Just wanted to say hello from another person in Valencia!!!
:D :D

We're doing the Disney cruise in October (during fall break) and we'll spend a few days pre and post at Disneyworld and Universal.

Have a great time!

Thanks to everyone on this lively thread! Special hello to fellow Valencians! and Valencia fans (it is such a beautiful community- we are very lucky indeed!) Even so, we find Orlando calls us back! We just have so much fun. Even though we have DL and DCA, in our estimation it does not compare to "the world" - anyway just to update....we have decided to go over our son's school break in Oct. and have booked the FT package @ Coronado....although I may upgrade this to a deluxe (depending on how much extra $ I can make with my auctions on ebay!) : )

:bounce:

Hi brando5111:

I personally think that October is a better time. Also, you'll be able to go to MIckey's Not So Scary Halloween Party! I debated about going to DW for the week or the cruise, but thought a cruise would be fun. I admit I checked out your profile, so cruising might not be such a novelty for you. The Princess out of L.A. might be an option for next summer!
Out of curiosity, what school does your child attend? My daughter goes go Legacy. Who knows, we might run into each other in Florida!

By the way, the heat and humidity scare me too! I don't even want to do DL in the summer. I seem to remember 2 hour waits for Pirates of the Caribbean.

I can't speak to the crowds, but as far as the weather is concerned...

Are you kidding?! It's not even tolerable here in Ohio, let alone in Florida! Things are different east of the Mississippi. In the summer, it's like the entire Gulf of Mexico evaporated and is just hanging in the air, 90% humidity in 90 degree heat.

But don't let me discourage you...

Exactly Tracie! This is why we only DO WDW MK park on E-Ticket nights! Since we live in So.Cal., we already have a MAGIC KINGDOM (the ORIGINAL). We truly take our time while in WDW, and venture out LATE in the afternoon, (usually AFTER the beautiful Thunder/lightening storms which blow-in like clock-work). I'd be so happy to go in October...but DD has school, so for now--it's the SUMMER.

Brando...you are so right about "Orlando calling us back". Folks here in Cali, who have never been to WDW, just "don't understand" the attraction. They immediately think it's more of the same (DL & DCA). WRONG! As for the folks we meet while vacationing, they tend to think the same thing (Don't you already HAVE Disneyland? Or...WOW, I'd LOVE to just vacation IN California!...etc.). I do not try to educate any of these people. Ignorance is bliss. :p We LOVE Orlando, and the Tropical atmosphere (including humidity) which goes hand in hand with our summer visits. Your FT package sounds like a winner. Good Luck on Ebay!!;)

I would not go in July or August again. We were there last July and the previous August. Last year the weather was so hot and humid that it was too hot to be in the pool. We went to only a few parks because the heat was just suffocating. My favorite time to go out was after an afternoon storm. Although it was still humid it cooled things down. The previous year was also quite hot and humid but not as bad as last July. We are heading to Maine this August instead. I personally like Disney when the weather is a little cooler. We were there this March and it was wonderful...

It's brutal, but we'll be there. I want to go so I don't care. It's been so long. But my DH is crying already. He so hates the heat. He will put the AC on in FEB if he is warm. So I am in for some trouble. It really really is bad. We stood in line for Little Mermaid for quite some time when finally we were being let in. A woman passed out on line from the heat and my husband was going to step out of the line to help her. The rest of us were dying from the heat as well and I told him he could stay but we were leaving him behind and going in. I am sorry but it is bad in the summer. But it has it's advantages.

Hi Tracie,

Yes, I work @ Princess and absolutely love to cruise....but love to go to WDW even more! (more fun @ Disney!) - cruisin on P is great but a bit more sedate.....I must admit, although the food on P was much better (sorry Disney) - the cruise itself was much more fun on Disney for us. But in Princess' defense it is a more "adult" vacation, not super family oriented. But who knows, it may change somewhat now that Carnival just bought us out.

My son is @ NorthPark...just love this school, the teachers and loving atmosphere are wonderful. I have heard great things about Legacy as well!

Brando

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever tried those weird neck-cooler things from Sharper Image? I always look at them in the catalogs and think that they would be perfect for Disney in the summer...if they really work, and are not just geeky ornaments...

Yes, it is warm, and sometimes wet!

Hi to all,
As my wife teaches, we go during July or August - we enjoy the greater range of activities and longer park hours in the summer - and are still alive and quite well. We know it will be hot most of the time with a good possibility of an afternoon thunderstorm, so at those times we take shelter at the resort, the pool, or step into a a/c attraction. We don't have young ones and can be more flexible, but as most of the posters have said, take an break during the day and give the younger set a rest from the heat and the hustle & bustle. Once, in early August, we had to buy sweatshirts it got so cool. Yes, the heat is most tolerable; just prepare for it.

Beewa, it is not much different than it is in Belmar, except the sun itself is more powerful, so sunscreen is very important. We are neighbors of yours in Wall, and will be in WDW July4-11

IMO, as an adult, I might be willing to go to DW in July/August - but I would definitely not want to take my 6-year old DD. Hauling around a hot cranky child is not fun. And pushing around a child in a stoller is not fun. Since the heat takes away all their energy, they won't be able to stay up late to take advantage of the evening hours. If I want to spend a lot of time in the heat and humidity, I'd rather go to Hawaii. At least there spending all my time in the pool and ocean makes sense.

as cold as it was in pennsylvania this winter none of us are going to complain about the heat.

i didn't read thru this post to discover if the mister fans are mentioned--but these are truly a lifesaver--at least for my drooping princess daughter.

Erinch,
I have to agree with you. =0)
If only we could figure a way to bottle up some of that heat and save it for next Winter.

You guys are all scaring me.......Now I am worried it will be too crowded in October when we go!!! LOL:p

The last few years, my family and i have also gone in May...such beautiful weather then. This year, I am going in mid-July though. I remember a few tripsfrom the past during this time and honestly do not remember it being unearthly hot. I'm from MI where it gets very humid anyways, so i am expecting the heat and actually like it:eek: July wouldn't be my first pick, but i had to be picky this year. Plus, it's gonna be so cheap i really am not too concerned about weather. Disney can be enjoyed anytime as long as you keep an open mind and now how to adapt to any weather. :bounce:

This will be our 3rd year in a row going in July - mainly because of the kids in school. The first year we were there we were prepared for the heat but not the rain! Had to get my 4 YO a sweatshirt because she got so cold after being in the rain and then the air conditioning. Plus our sneakers were soaked for the first half of our vacation.
Last year we got a little smarter. Always bring your cheap poncho even if it is sunny in the morning. Wear sandals (Teva or like) - they are very comfortable walking around. We also bought one of those kitchen misters from Pampered Chef - the kind you put water in and pump air into when you need it. It gives off a very fine mist and worked wonderful while waiting in line - in fact, we would mist anyone in line that wanted it. Also we brought a Brita water bottle that has a small filter in it to bring into the parks. Take breaks and don't try to do everything.
Hope this helps!
