Tell Me I'm Not Being Ridiculous

I have been to WDW three times in my life, all with family. The first time was around 1991 when I was 10 staying at CBR. The second was around 1997 staying at OKW where my Aunt and Uncle have had DVC for ages. The third was around 2003, also at OKW, over the holidays. I enjoyed these trips very much but have never been 'die-hard Disney'.

My girlfriend of two years has never been to any Disney park.

Last year, that topic was brought up and I half-jokingly said that we should go together. Naturally, she jumped on board immediately and we planned a trip to POP for this coming October that never materialized. Around June I looked at my availability and accumulated time off and decided that we could pull off a Disney vacation after all. I ended up booking a 5-night stay at POFQ for late February. It looks romantic and laid back and perfect for us. We're excited.

Of course, upon booking POFQ, I got the itch...

...So last week I booked us a 3-night stay at YC for my birthday in September of next year.

Was it ridiculous of me to book the second vacation before even beginning the first one? Girlfriend is excited about both trips and we can swing it both financially and with accrued time off. POFQ is completely paid for. YC only has the deposit paid so I have no real risk since I can cancel anytime over the next year.

I know that I really enjoyed my previous trips to WDW and, although much has changed, so much of what I loved is still present. I know that my girlfriend is going to have a blast.

But a part of me still thinks I'm crazy for booking YC without exposing us to the WDW of today first.

Am I being ridiculous?

You're on a Disney board. We aren't going to call you crazy.

That is an extremely valid point! It's funny to me because I am being paranoid even though girlfriend 1000% supports the idea of double Disney 2018. I don't know. I should really stop thinking about it and instead focus on getting those ADRs (which open up next Thursday!) and whatnot.

NO, not crazy, you got the fever!

Just hold your YC reservation. If possible book a meal over there in February and see if you really want to stay there. You might find it's what you think or if not, switch to something else. You have plenty of time to decide.

Welcome to the club. :welcome:

PS Look at my signature .... 5-6 weeks a year ....

Yeah, we're spending one of our afternoons or evenings on the Feb. trip exploring the Boardwalk area. She's really really really excited about SAB and, since YC was a good amount cheaper than BC, I think it's going to be a safe bet. But I'm looking forward to checking it out before checking us in! :smooth:

Your YC reservation is an easy cancel after Feb if you guys aren't stoked on going back. I personally love my planning my next Disney vacation about 1 week after a trip. I need a little non-Disney time to recoop and then I'm back at it! :rotfl2:

Everything will be NEW for your girlfriend. She will be thrilled and a little overwhelmed. Going back in the fall she will have the experience to really focus on the things she loved and be able pick a few new things you might have missed the first go round. I think it's a great idea if it doesn't put a strain on you two financially or your vacay time.

Happy Planning! :D

Normally, if you have to ask if you're being ridiculous it's almost a foregone conclusion that you are. So I'm happy to see that you're not - you'll have plenty you'll still want to see and do or experience again after your first stay. Your biggest problem may be that your second stay is shorter.

As for coming onto a Disney board and asking if you should book multiple stays sight unseen? Doesn't matter if you're crazy or not - we're all mad here.

Well, we got APs on our last trip and will be going three times within a one year period, so I'm going to go with "not ridiculous" :rolleyes1

Keep an eye out for discounts, though. Particularly when you are on your February trip, there will likely be a "bounce back" offer that you may be able to apply to your September trip. Yacht Club is generally included in the bounce back offers, and we have found them to be much better than the general public discounts (usually 30 - 35% off the room price). This brings the deluxe prices down from "stratospheric" to "quite pricey".

Crazy??? I think not! LOL! Use your first trip as an exploratory trip, knowing you will be going back. I honestly think it takes the pressure off of trying to "get it all in" the first time.

I love POFQ, and for a first rip for your GF, I think it will be perfect. Make sure to take a ride to DS on the water taxi at night. I have loved that since my first stay there and the old tree houses were lit up and reflecting on the river.

I don't find it ridiculous at all. The two trips will be very different. You will experience the difference between mods and deluxe resorts. POFQ has bus travel where at YC you will have the ability to walk/boat to two parks. I think if you can afford it, why not? It's a great way to see what options/locations you prefer!

If you are looking for people to agree that you are crazy, you should probably find a Universal centric message board. Seriously though, you already said you can afford it, and on the extremely unlikely chance that you don't want to go back after the first trip...just cancel the 2nd one.
