Tell Me I'm Not Being Ridiculous

POFQ and YC were the first 2 resorts my DH and I stayed at together! I don't think you're being ridiculous at all! And you can always cancel the second trip if you don't enjoy the first one (although I don't see how that's really possible, lol). I think those are great resort choices and I think you'll have a great time.

But a part of me still thinks I'm crazy for booking YC without exposing us to the WDW of today first.

Am I being ridiculous?

:welcome: to the Disney addiction!

As others have noted, DisBoards is probably not the best place to get an unbiased answer to your question.

DW and I started our Disney addiction many years ago with one 6 day trip per year, worked our way up through one longer trip per year, then two 6 day trips per year, two 12 day trips per year, and now we snowbird near Disney. So two trips in a year does not sound ridiculous to me. :rotfl:

Obviously make sure that your financial plan, both short and long term, supports the expenditure. Vacations are fun and important to mental health but can wreak havoc on your savings plan. For your two trips do look into Annual Passes. Ten days should be enough to make the math work out, especially if you were considering Park Hopper tickets. And you will want Park Hoppers for your September visit to the YC.

And be forewarned that staying in one of the Epcot resorts can be habit forming. We started our Disney addiction at the BWI and kept going back. Being able to wander over to Epcot in the evening is a wonderful adult activity.

Wishing you magical trips!

Just consider us handy enablers for any Disney thing you want to do. Unless you don't want to get fastpasses on New Year's and ride Space Mountain. That would be ridiculous. But you don't want to do that. You just want to go twice in the same year. Perfectly normal around here.

Yep your normal. I always am planning the next trip while on a current one. So nice to know you are coming back if you don't get to do all you want this trip!

If you are looking for people to agree that you are crazy, you should probably find a Universal centric message board.

Except that tons of Uni fans are also Disney fans. And in the universal forum here we routinely explain that an ap can get you such a discount that you might as well plan for that. Or if no discount at least budget for the ap because you'll love it so much. So that sort of "crazy" is, haha, universal.

OP, we bought dvc at wdw without ever having been to wdw. Stayed 10 nights that first trip. And 3 nights at Uni.

Like Redfoo says, "Let's Get Ridiculous!" ;) There will be many ways to save money and plan for the next trip as you are planning this upcoming trip!

Have fun! pixiedust:

Crazy? Of course not! Here is the thing - once you get bitten, it is hard to resist. My husband consented to our first WDW trip ONLY because he felt is was important to take children to the parks. Our boys (then 2 and 4) had a good time - but my husband had a blast. We are actually going (without kids) for the first time next month. We could have gone anywhere but Disney got the nod. Go and enjoy!

PS - If you get the annual pass, I think that also makes you eligible for Tables in Wonderland which gets you discounts at most restaurants. You purchase the Tables in Wonderland card ($150) and it is good for a year. You may want to look into that, too.

So after reading everyone's comments (thank you all!) it seems like the smartest plan would be to upgrade to an AP since I'm already looking at 10 days worth of park time and we had booked POFQ with park hoppers for 6 of those days. Would it be best to do this upgrade at the park in February to max out the time value of the AP or would it be better to upgrade before this year ends to beat a price increase? Gut instinct says the former to maximize the timing in anticipation of a, probably inevitable, third trip in late 2018/early 2019.

If I upgrade at the park do I do so on that first day through guest relations? What's the protocol here? I've read a few other posts but I am left more confused than assisted since I am walking blindly into the realm of ticket upgrades...

Right now I have 3 trips booked with friends, with a 4th on the drawing board.
Early December - BWV
April - Universal and AoA
Late June - Poly
October - DL but not booked yet.

Go to any Guest Relations or Ticket Booth. Since we are early morning rope drop people we do our AP renewal at the first Ticket Booth we come across after the renewal window opens. Just takes a few, maybe 10 minutes. Depends on how chatty the CM is in the booth.

You could upgrade now and get the voucher for the AP and then go to Guest Relations or Ticket Booth with the voucher and your ID to get your AP card when you arrive in February. The clock will not start on the AP until then.

ahhh... the addiction is taking hold. That's one of the problems with having an AP in your wallet.

Crazy? No way!! We are never happier when planning for Disney and almost always have at least one trip booked and the other well-planned if not booked. We are DVC members, but have done this long before becoming members. We know we will have a great time and never second-guess it (the dates maybe, but not the trip!). Enjoy!

POFQ is a very nice moderate resort & I love that long boat ride to/from DS.
I personally prefer YC over BC or BW, it has such a serene vibe compared to the other 2, full balconies for 99% of the rooms & is quite convenient to Epcot & DHS. Check out the BC/YC FAQ thread - there are super helpful, friendly & funny folks who post there.
We only do 1 trip a year, albeit 10-11 nights, but I already have trips for the next 5 yr.s planned in my head, so although we who post here are most likely all crazy, you may find that you fit right in :)

You'll have to upgrade with your first trip because you have to upgrade within 14 days of the first day you use the pass!

Otherwise, you'll lose the value of those hoppers if you get an AP later in the year.

Asking us if you are ridiculous is like a drug addict asking his dealer if he's an addict. Welcome to the ridiculousness!

Not ridiculous! Your girlfriend is going to have a great first trip, but she won't get to see everything, so you'll need to go back. Good for you---anticipating her needs!

I took my first trip to WDW, and immediately realized there was so much to do there that I'd need to go back again and again.

Every trip, I've left thinking that there's much more that I still want to enjoy, and I've left with great anticipation for a trip back. Having that YC reservation in your back pocket will take away some pressure to check off everything on your list.

That's so awesome that you're both excited! Have a great time!

If you enjoy your POFQ trip in February, keep the trip in Sept., if not, cancel it and no harm done.
