Hey Everyone,
I am late to this conversation as I just discovered this show recently and have been watching all the old episodes online.
1) Is anyone else annoyed how none of the kids were using car seats correctly? The straps were insanely loose, the buckle that is supposed to be at chest level was often down at belly button level, and the kids were all left in the infant bucket seats way too long, and then placed forward facing early. Maybe the laws are different but here kids are supposed to be minimum 1 year AND 22 lbs before forward facing. And for those infant bucket seats, usually kids are out of them by 6-9 months due to their length. It seems all the parents missed the rear facing but out of bucket seat stage. Regardless, even now that they are forward facing, most of the time the straps are way too loose and the chest part is not at their chests!
2) I can tell some parts of it are staged, which is annoying. Did anyone else notice when Farrah's water broke, supposedly at 2:00 am, she called her mom, who ran in immediately, FULLY dressed and hair done. Then she immediately grabbed her coat which was conviently beside the bed. Ummm, when my water broke, I needed to change my pants! If it was enough to get the bed wet, I would think she would have wanted to change. I understand MTV wasn't likely camped out at their house every night just in case that happend, however, they shouldn't have recreated it, that is just too fake in my opinion. They could have just talked about what happened, like with the assault incident with Farrah when they weren't there to record that.
3) I went back and watched the 16 and pregnants of these girls and thought it was interesting how Brandon and Theresa didn't get to see Carly until like 6 hours after birth. When I watched the first teen mom recap show, it looked like Tyler and Catelyn didn't even want to see Carly when she was born, but then they must have had a big turn around, and I do think they had second thoughts, so I'm really glad they went through with it. It was obviously the right decision.
4) Kyle reminds me of Landry from Friday night lights, just his looks, but also his shyness and quietness. I do think moving away was a good thing for Maci, but I also think she rushed into it. I do agree she needed to gain some independence, but I also think she should have gotten to know Kyle more first before moving her whole life.. essentially for him.
5) I found it interesting that Gary gave Amber those flowers. And while she kept them and didn't toss them, they stayed on her table and when she said her and Chris had been dating for a few weeks, and she was going to introduce him to Leah, the flowers were still on the table. Then when he moved in... the FLOWERS were STILL ON THE TABLE!!! Seriously, either how long did these super flowers live, or was that a crazy short amount of time.
6) I could tell Amber had lost a lot of weight in the second season, but I'm not sure how, and while they did mention she likes to work out, they never did show it.
7) I really do feel for Farrah in how her mother acts regarding Sophia. I understand Debra loves Sophia, but she is obsessive about it. She is always calling the baby "my baby", and completely ignores everything else, including Farrah, when Sophia is around. She is very controllng, and I can understand Farrah wanting her own indpendence. The violence is also scary, and I feel we're not seeing the whole picture.
8) I thought Debra and Michael were getting a divorce??
9) I feel bad for Maci about how Ryan was the first year. He was a terrible father and partner. He does seem to have changed at least some, as Bentley always seems sad to leave him.
10) I feel bad for Catelyn in that abusive situation. But I also feel she is a little bit of a liar and manipulator. Calling the ex behind Tylers back and then lying about it is one example. But another would be the school thing. She was telling everyone she was getting A's and B's, and then all of a sudden she is nearly failing and won't graduate and she finds this out like the day before graduation?? That part was pretty fake. I just wonder what else we're not hearing the whole truth about from her. Tyler also seems to change his mind around a lot about what he wants to do. Air force, paramedic, counsellor with youth etc.
10) All I have to say is that if all this goes on with the cameras rolling... what happens when no one is watching???
