Team 'Ohana 2009: No One Left Behind

Thank you for the invite sweet Debra. My favorite character to see at Disney is me. I'm surely a character and I like seeing me at Disney as often as possible.

I sure miss all you guys.

Visiting Panda:hippie:

Aloha, Cousins and Visitors!

Coming to you fresh from my 4 mi TM and 35 min bike ride, with endorphins still flowing!

My favorite Disney character is Belle. We both love to read, we are both brunettes (anyone else remember how exciting it was to have a princess that wasn't blond?! No, Snow does not count), and we both married a -- ok, Dennis isn't really a beast, but he does shun all things Disney, so that's close enough! :lmao:

I can't wait to see what other characters have captured your hearts!

Awe Maria, Dennis is not a beast, he had the good sense to marry you didn't he?

Invited Panda:hippie:

Maybe he was just a beast until I married him ;) :rotfl:

No, seriously he is an amazing husband and father, and I am the lucky one! :lovestruc

OK. Quick post as I am getting ready for work. My favorite character (other than Mickey), I would have to say is Crush. I love the laid back attitude. Just relaxed and taking it easy. Now, I am not a "surfer" dude by any means but the fact that there is no stress sounds really good!

Hallo Cousins! Thanks to Deb for the Monday invite again! Let's see my favourite Disney character would The White Rabbit from Alice in Wonderland. He's always late for something like me :) I also like Emile from Ratatouille - he has a really sweet and trusting nature and likes to eat. I also like Classic Pooh but I don't really think that's Disney.

Have a great day everyone!

Belle is also my favorite character for the same reasons. Also, Beauty and the Beast is my favorite Disney movie overall because it's the first one that made me forget that I was watching a cartoon!

What a coincidence that Mary and Maria have the same favorite character!:thumbsup2

Favorite character, eh? And putting away "original" versus "appropriated". Well, I could pick ones for my entire family....

DH would be Grumpy (for all things Disney, anyway!)
DD would be Belle--beautfiul, intelligent, sensitive, well-read
DS is Pooh--underneath that teenage exterior is a softy
DC (that's Dear Canine) would be Stitch. As I often say "His badness level is very high today"

As for me, I would aspire to be Mulan. Intelligent, sensitive, athletic, loving. At least, that would be my vision!

On a gut level, I vote for Pooh, though. Somthing about his softy self, and the wonderful voice work by Sterling Holloway, that just makes you want to hug him.

Let's see.

My favorite characters are Cinderella and Wendy from Peter Pan.

Cinderella comes from when I was 2 and literally wore out multiple copies of the VHS tape.

Wendy is because one of the nicknames at my school is Wendy Wellesley.

Hey kids-

My favorite character is Donald. In the very early 80s, my mom, step-dad, step-sister and I all had on matching Donald t-shirts when we went for breakfast at Chef Mickeys. The hostess asked what last name to use and my step-dad with a straight face said "Duck." Being around 11, I was both utterly mortified and completely amused.

When I first started thinking about races, I wanted to do the full at Disney. I signed up for Goofy because I really wanted to do a full but couldn't bear to not have a Donald medal. All my medals are special in their own way, but I really love my Donalds.:woohoo:

Jen in GA

Hey Deb, that's a thought for a future mixer- maybe a "what's your favorite medal and why?" question...

Hello Cousins,

My favorite Character is of course Goofy. Followed quickly by Peter Pan. Goofy is my favorite because as a kid they showed the Goofy short films and they were all about sports and hot to type things. I always found them hilarious. Also as kid everytime we had a character meal I wanted goofy to be there because he'd take off my Dads hat and shine the top of his head with a napkin. I couldn't stop laughing.

Peter Pan is of course because as you can tell I don't ever want to grow up and who doesn't want to fly? OFF TO NEVERLAND.......

Hey Team Ohana!!! Thanks for the invite and organisation!

Nancy i'm so pleased to read that you're doing well and taking care of yourself. Way to go for getting upto a mile as well.

Jen what a cute story, duck! Donald medals do look very cute

Goofyinohio goofy makes sense and i think there's a bit of peter pan in all of us! Good choice

I love reading everyone's favourites and the reasons. What a great topic

Ok favourite character is a bit specific- baby pegassus (i'm not sure how u spell it!). from the first time i heard that snore on Hercules i fell in love! I picked one up last week and discovered the pet head accessories (which personally i can not see a pet wearing!) fit perfectly. So my plush has a princess minnie hat on :lmao: with my princess 1/2 pin too. This baby pegassus is clearly a girl :rotfl: She also doesn't have the cute snore from the film tho

Aloha 'Ohana friends,

My favorite character is probably not too hard to figure out! I love both the storybook and Disney incarnations of Pooh. That's my well-loved childhood "friend" as my avatar. He has a little bell in one ear, and the jingle sound adds to his already considerable charm. :lovestruc

As a family, we have quite a few stuffed Pooh bears and other Disney characters (my boys are teenagers, but I can't make myself get rid of any of the stuffed animals). They are great to bring on Disney trips to entice the mousekeepers to make towel creations :) We got treated to a huge towel swimming pool complete with hot tub and slide one year (Tigger was heading down the slide, while Pooh lounged in the hot tub, naturally!). It was awesome! The room wasn't all that clean, but it was worth it :rotfl:

Debbie: I think it's really charming you have this lifelong connection, since childhood, with Pooh. Many times I think we can overlook how comforting stuffed animals can be. No kids here, but I have a cuddly Eeyore that I can't make myself get rid of, in part because one of my cats loves to cuddle with it. (Had to add a picture of Pooh for you!)

Kate: Awww, baby Pegasus. It does make me want to say, "awww" for some reason. Maybe it's the combo of the snore and the princess hat!

Chris: Naw, never would have guessed you're a Goofy Guy. Now that I know you a little better, though, Peter Pan makes a lot of sense too. (Me, I'm a rejuvenile, so right with you.)

JenG: Now, see, I didn't know that about you. The Donald medal makes perfect sense! And I love your mixer question--it's officially adopted and goes in the books. (Would you mind if I added favorite t-shirt to the mix, so that people who are currently doing shorter events can participate?) :thumbsup2

Jennifer: I love both the Cindy and the Wendy connection. The former makes your princess name really memorable. And who doesn't love the alliteration of Wendy Wellelsly?

Maura: I have a special spot in my heart for Mulan and Stitch myself. I see a lot of the former in you.

Maria and Mary: I could have guessed Belle as the answer for Maria, knowing her a little better than Mary, so it's really cool to see that character connection!

Maria, do you ever beat your hands against DH's chest, then swoon, saying "You beast?" I know that reaction isn't very Belle, but it makes me smile!

Mary: Beauty and the Beast should have won the Best Picture of the Year in 1991. Seriously.

Vicky: Ooh, the White Rabbit! I had my picture taken with him one--love characters like him, Eeyore, Pooh, Baloo. You just want to squeeze their bellies. I, too, like Classic Pooh. I guess Shepard's illustration style didn't work as well for animation, so that's why Disney changed it. (Part of me suspects the style didn't work as well for Disney aesthetics, but I digress...)

Dave: I'm quite sure you make many people's favorite Disney character top-10 list. Especially if they spend any time with you on the course.

Bryan: Although you're not a surfer dude, and there can only be one DOOD in my life, I can certainly see you as laid back!

JenG: Ah, Mickey. I tend to forget how important he is until I'm at Disney and see kids waiting to take their picture with the big cheese. You're channeling your inner Walt! :goodvibes (Hope you're feeling better, btw.)

As for me: It's actually very difficult for me to name a favorite character because I have so many. I'm a huge animation fan, so working my way through the lists is nearly impossible. Outside the Disney universe, I'm a fan of Betty Boop, Rocky and Bullwinkle, Fritz the Cat, Bugs and Daffy, The Simpsons' Comic-Book Guy, Pinky and the Brain, and Aeon Flux, among others.

Within the Disney/Pixar universe, it's no easier. Of the Fab Five, I pick Pluto. He's no longer associated with a planet, so he deserves a little love. Plus, his obsession with the chipmunks is just plain funny. Generally, I'm a bigger fan of villains and comic sidekicks over princesses and princess--the former get better lines. Snarky characters top gentle souls. I'm particularly fond of characters who have been adopted/appropriated by queer culture: The Evil Queen, Tinker Bell, Scar, Beast (and Gaston), Quasimodo, and Mulan, for instance.

If you asked me to identify with a character, I'd probably say Br'er Rabbit. He's a trickster storyteller, whose stories get him in trouble as often as they get him out of trouble. There's a moral in that, probably. I also like Eeyore's worldview, although it's a little "up" for me. And I think I smile like Stitch.

So, hard to say, hard to say. Apparently I'm a little focus-challenged. Like Tigger. So maybe that will be the character I choose today, although I tend to find him a bit annoying. Probably because he reminds me of myself. :rotfl2:

Some pics from my birthday trip last year. Just because we deserve to see photos of characters. Do note I'm not the focus, as I'm not a character like Dave! :lmao:

Chip & Dale would be my favorites. Our first time at the Contemporary Character Buffet, Chip held a butter knife to the waiter when he brought the check........ Not that we encourage that type of violence, but it was pretty funny. :rotfl:

Mt. Vernon Indiana! Wow, my dh has an aunt who lives there. What are the odds?! I have actually been to your fair town. :goodvibes

Maria,

Send me a PM with her name. I've lived here all my life and I may know her!

Aloha, cousins! and a happy monday to all.

Another classic Pooh fan here. When I was home on maternity leave with my first son, I took out my old tattered copy of The House at Pooh Corner and started painting all over the walls. My son has now spent 13 years in the Hundred Acre Woods and has yet to ask that it be repainted. Maybe he has a little too much Christopher Robin or Peter Pan in him? BTW, (lawyer alert! lawyer alert!) Disney spent many years in copyright litigation with Shepherd and his estate, and it is my understanding that disputes over usage rights to the Shephard illustrations is one of the prime reasons the characters are drawn so differently in the Disney incarnation. I actually remember the first time I went to WDW with my then fiancee (1991?) and there was almost no Pooh stuff to be found I dragged the poor guy all over the place looking), if you can believe it (this was also because they had licensed the Pooh image to Sears, if anyone remembers back that far). They have obviously since worked out the licensing and usage issues. :lmao:

So if I had to choose a single favorite character, I guess I'd have to go with Pooh. Or more likely Eeyore, who I believe is vastly misunderstood.

If I were choosing the one Disney character I feel I can best relate to . . .well, truth be told, it isn't a normal week around here if i haven't channeled my inner Queen of Hearts and bellowed "Off with their heads!!!!" on at least one occasion. My poor family has learned not to ever say they will be dropping something off on their way, because I will immediately seize upon the opportunity to inform them that all ways are my way!

Then again, in the door jamb where we have measured the kids growth, there is a mark for "Mommy--practically perfect in every way" right around the 5'8" mark. And my car sports a sticker proudly proclaiming that I'm not bad, I just drive that way. And when my kids got my husband a shirt that says "I'm only Grumpy because you're Dopey," we all knew exactly to whom it referred. So i suppose I'm a bit of a multiple-disney character-personality type, as I suppose most of us are.

and of course, no discussion of Disney characters would be complete without a mention of Captain Jack. pirate: If you need it explained, you'll never understand. Speaking of which, where is all the rum? It is way after 5 o'clock here!

Erica, I do remember that WTP was licensed to Sears, back in the day that Mom took my brother and me shopping for our Toughskins jeans!

Deb...great pics!! My sister and I did that character meal last month.

Glad to stop in to the mixer for a little bit. just a short break from work, now that I got the DDDs spreadsheet updated.

My favorite(s)...
Belle....same as the others....quiet, smart, loving...and brunette. :goodvibes
Eeyore...because he's sad and needs loving (like me at times)
Tinkerbell...sassy!!
and Cinderella...the classic. princess:

To the Donald fan above....(hoosmi?)...did you see the segment on Donald on the View last Friday? The archivist who did the background segment is my brother. He has the coolest job! :cool2:

Hope everyone is having a great week so far! I'm just travelling, working, trying to squeeze in training (tri season starts soon!).
