Team 'Ohana 2009: No One Left Behind

Hello all.
Well no surprise, I guess, my favorite character is Tinkerbelle.
As a child, I loved Peter Pan and fell in love with that adorable Pixie, Tink.
The fact that she was little, cute, quiet but sassy made me love her even more.
I also liked Snow White a lot. She was the princess with short brown hair just like mine (only now mine comes from Clairol).
What a great topic today. It is helping me get over Disney withdrawal. Sure do miss that place (glad I can fantasize about it at least).

HEY COUSINS!!! I didn't miss the party this time! WHOOO HOOOO!!

My favorite is Tinkerbelle... well because we are so much alike... Sassy, attitude, always right... Just love that little Pixie!!!!!

Maria and Debra - You have something coming your way so watch those mail boxes!!!

Personally, I'm a villain girl myself. Always been a fan of Maleficient...what girl doesn't want to turn herself into a flame-throwing dragon? Otherwise, I kinda like the girls that are doers like Belle and Mulan...sitting around waiting for your prince to come never played in my household when I was a kid. Always liked Eeyore and Pluto too.

Hey my Aloha Cousins...

Would have to say Mickey Mouse is my Favorite. I remember old/new mickey couse club shows and it all started with the mouse afterall.

Next would be Ariel! That was one of the first animated movies that I just loved!! (plus the girl has gorgeous red hair) The music in that one was great also.

Thanks for inviting everyone over for the party!!:cool1:

Racey Tracy (Freckles)

Sorry to arrive to the party so late, but at least I made it this week!

My favorite character is definitely Dopey....he's just so cute, I could hug him to death! Growing up, my most memorable movie was Sleeping Beauty and so I have a special place in my heart for all the charcters from that one. I also like the female villains. My kids always thought I was a cross between Cruella and Ursula....probably not something I should be proud of! They said I drove just like Cruella, although physically I resemble Ursula much more......what can I say, it's all in the arms! Anyway, just before I would blow my stack, they would roll their eyes and say "Oh no, she's rising from the sea again!" :rotfl:

Debra: LOVE the character photos! I'll ask Adam about "Lucy and Wendy". My guess is that he doesn't have the money to buy a ticket since they are about $12 in NYC! I'm sure if he splurged on a movie recently, it was probably "Watchmen". You will LOVE Rebecca. I read it when I was about 12 and it's been one of my faves ever since. I've read it a few times after that and still love it. As for "Outlander", I read it about 7 years ago and don't remember much except for the Jamie parts....whew, it's getting hot in here!

JenG: I haven't signed up yet, but we are planning to do the DL half. It will be a quickie trip so we'll probably arrive early Friday and leave Monday. We're definitely up for a WISH meet, though!

JenB: thanks for posting those photos!

Kathy: I just saw some photos of you on Cam's VR thread......is that guy your husband? He's been on the WISH team forever, right? I don't remember his name, but i know he's one of the fast ones! And wasn't that him cheering near Beach/Yacht during the full this past year? Were you there also? (Sorry, so many questions!)

Corinna: Hope you're feeling better......sending pixie dust your way!

Maria: too funny about the Sunday school kid! If anyone behaved like that when I was a kid, the nuns just told them they were going to hell....and you know what happens when you get there. Flames and worms and all that horrible stuff. Sometimes it worked and sometimes it didn't, but I guess that's not PC anymore!

To all our visitors: thanks for coming over!

To all the other cousins: HI!

Everyone else: Hi

Debra - I thought Shadow of the Giant was one of the better books in the series. Although, I kind of wish Card had not written that last chapter about the future on Earth in 50 or so years (don't want to give anything away). I wish he'd saved that for a more Peter-centric book to continue that story. You are so right about the use of personal perspective in these books. The author uses it as a powerful tool in his writing. Now, I have to track down Ender in Exile, and I'm afraid it is not in paperback yet.

Maria - I say go ahead and read the series again. It has been several years since I read any of the books, and there were 2 that I had not read yet (not counting Ender in Exile and A War of Gifts. Let's just say those last few years have added something to my perspective--when I first read them I could most easily identify with Ender, later on with his parents also, now it is easier to see things from the point of view of the military officers (although I still love Ender, Bean, Petra, Valentine,...as characters.

Mel - The knee is about 90% recovered--good enough to do what I want. Thanks for asking!;)

Now as to my favorite character, well Mickey is the most obvious choice as he is just THE ONE to love. I also identify with Mr. Incredible--older and heavier than how I view myself from years past, and sometimes wishing I could relive those days--although also loving my wife and family in the here and now. Sometimes, when things always go wrong or I feel like I am never understood right, then I feel like Lewis from Meet the Robinsons.

Have a good night guys, I'm heading out for a run in a little bit.

I heard there was a mixer here so I thought I;d stop by and say Hello.

My favorite villian/character is Cruella Di Ville. She's just so mean and -shhh don't tell the PETA people, she loves FUR. Now mind you, I love puppies and would never kill one for their fur but Cruella does have some fab clothes.

We are partial to the Pooh characters in our house. For a long time I was totally an eeyore fan, he just seemed to suit me, well meaning and loving but always a bit tired and misunderstood. Over time I've become a bit more Pooh like, often pausing to make myself "think, think, think" and stop for a smackeral of honey ( or something more like a cookie...). Now with exercising more and trying to minimize the food breaks I'm a bit more like Tigger, although I try not to be quite as annoying. I actually painted DD's room in classic Pooh and absolutely love the Peter Ellenshaw Pooh paintings.

I also really like Belle as a character-- partly because she is DD's favorite and because she is a take charge kind of girl who won't just wait around to be rescued.

We own a ridiculous number of Eeyore dolls-- here are a few pictures of my little one as a baby with our Eeyore collection and at Disney with some Pooh bears.

My favorite character is a toss-up... I've always adored Pooh, for that huggable quality. But then there's Tigger, who's just so darned cute! Fortunately they're almost always together and I never have to pick just one for pictures and hugs! DH actually just bought me a small stuffed Pooh just last week...

Debra - What did I like most about Outlander? Absolutely Jamie first (and like Jeanne said, it seems to be getting awfully hot in here), but then there's just the overall writing. She does a wonderful job of transporting you there. Not so much the time travel thing, although I find myself walking around now wondering... But she did such a good job making me believe that I was in 18th century Scotland that I've actually caught myself repeating a couple of Jamie's phrases in the past week! If Dragonfly in Amber doesn't arrive soon, I may scream! In the meantime, I've decided to start with Elizabeth Peters (Jude the Obscure will have to wait a little longer - it's just a little too obscure)

Confession time - I skipped the TM run altogether. DD's boyfriend was here for the weekend, and everyone slept in Saturday morning, and then we all went to the museum to see the new Pirate exhibit. I had the best of intentions...

Yes, you do own a ridiculous number of Eeyore dolls ;)

Didn't you win the DIS photo contest with that Pooh picture?

I see the Party Eeyore's and Pooh's are ready to keep the Mixer going! I am just too Sleepy, so I'll say Aloha!

Maria

Debra - Great Crystal Palace pictures! I always give Eeyore and Pooh a big hug when I go! Yeah, lots of changes beteween the original WTP and the Disney version. I thought the original Eeyore was a lot more sarcastic and Tigger was less in your face. I have a pic of the White Rabbit too - I've only met him once. More luck than anything else since it started raining while I was waiting in line but he continued to take pictures with people. And true to his character he was the last one back on the character bus :)

Jack - Oh I forgot about Chip and Dale! They're such characters when you meet them in the parks!

jbucci - Your little one looks so precious in the WTP pic!

Tracey - Can't forget about Mickey! I like Mickey in the older cartoons - Plane Crazy, Steamboat Willie (I was about to type Steamboat Itchy) and Hawaiian Holiday.

Have a great night everyone!

Who or what is your favorite Disney character, and why?

.

Aloha!
Greetings from the Ducks :goodvibes
I hope you all have a great week!
I'm off to WDW for some rest and recovery in the sun!
Hopefully I'll be seeing Corinna there :cool1:

My favorite character... Darth Maul!
Why... because we both are extremists, we march to
a different beat, and we're such freaks of nature and most
important... we have the coolest toys!

Scar would be a close second, just because ;) (love my bad boys!)

Good Morning, Team!

Umm...well, we all slept in today. It's a school holiday so -- what, you haven't heard of Evacuation Day? It's the day the British left Boston, and that's the reason we're celebrating. Absolutely. Completely. The only reason. Never mind that green beer. :shamrock:

So, I haven't made it on any type of equipment, and at this point I guess we'll see. DH has to work, even though he has the day off. That pesky seafood show! Which, by the way, I didn't attend. I'm glad I didn't go, I think I would have felt incredibly guilty. DS has a swim birthday party all afternoon. I'm not sure if it's a parents-stay one or not. If not, I'm heading to the Disney Store to get a few things for his Easter Basket. I don't have to stuff eggs, but he would be hearbroken if Mom & Dad didn't cough up a basket of goodies. Either way, the odds of TM happening are slim. If he has gymnastics, I might make it it. If not, I guess I'll just be happy I worked hard yesterday and plan to do the same tomorrow. :thumbsup2

I slept 10 hrs again, so I guess I really needed the rest.

What a great party yesterday! Debra -- thank you for putting these together. We are getting to know our fellow WISHers! :cool1:

Ok, shouts out to everyone, I have to take DH to the convention center and try to salvage a little bit of my morning...

Maria :upsidedow

:shamrock:Happy St Patrick's Day Cousins :shamrock:

I’ve been home from the Princess princess: almost a week now so it’s about time I posted. It always takes we awhile after returning from vacation to get back to “normal”. Got to catch up on mail, bills, laundry, kids activities, etc.
I’ll try to post a mini trip report later.

Nancy – so happy to hear that you are recovering from your surgery. Great news that you are able to get up and about and get some walking in. :goodvibes I hope your strength continues to improve.

JenB – Your post about Trout Fishing in America made me smile. We saw them play a concert about ten years ago. My daughter loved them. We used to play their CD all the time. I’ll have to dig it out again. I remember that she liked: 18 Wheels on a Big Rig, My Hair Had A Party Last Night  and Baby’s Got The Car Keys. I’m sure they have new songs out now but we only have one of their CDs.

Debra – Great character photos! You always look like you are having so much fun!

Jeanne – Yes that is me and Mike that you saw in the photos. And yes, after Mike finished the full we went over to the BC to cheer :cheer2: on the runners/walkers until the sweeper bikes passed. And yes, Mike has sort of been a member of the WISH team since early 2007. I began reading in 2005 about all of the WISH members planning on completing a WDW marathon. I read the many trip reports in Jan 2006 when everyone returned. I decided that it was something I wanted to try too. Everyone’s reports were so inspiring! I signed up for the 2007 half and began training. Mike decided that he would join me and registered for the race in late August. I read the boards a lot then – didn’t post much – same as now I guess. I would quote different people from the Disboards when Mike and I talked about training. He thought I was crazy. He reluctantly went to the POP meet with me in Jan 2007. I remember talking with Steve, Krista, Cam, Howard, Chester, Tracy, Anne and so many others. Mike started reading and posting on the boards when we returned from our first event. He walked that first half marathon with me but has since started running. He has run 8 marathons and has two more planned for this spring. He used to make fun of me for my disboard time :surfweb: but I think he spends more time then me on the boards now. So I guess that was kind of a long answer to your question. Sorry!

Corinna – I hope you’re feeling better.

Maria – have you spent your $50 borders money yet? What books will you get? I’m so glad that Ohana is such a literary bunch. I really need some suggestions. I’m currently reading the third book of the Twilight series. Most of the books I have read lately are young adult books – trying to keep up with my DD’s book choices. I’ll have to look into this Outlander that everyone keeps mentioning. It doesn't sound like a good choice for a 12 year old though.

Jen G – hope you’re feeling better.

I'll try to post a mini Princess race report in the next day or two. I was going to post pictures with it but most of mine are of me with characters. I guess I was too nervous to think of taking group pictures before the start of the race and everyone kind of dispersed quickly after the race.

Hi Cousins! Just a quick drive-by for now, but I hope to catch up with everyone soon. :car: Life has just been so busy lately. Sometimes it feels like I have 30 kids instead of just 3!

Debra, thanks for throwing another party. I'm sorry I missed it this week. It's not like me to miss a party. It's difficult to pick a favorite Disney character since I love so many of them, but if I had to choose one it would be Jiminy Cricket. He's just such a cute, helpful little guy.

Nancy - I'm so glad to hear your good news. :cool1: It seems like you are recovering from the surgery very well. I hope the rest of your recovery is as easy and as speedy as possible.

I'm off to pick up the kids from school (Maria, we don't get Evacuation Day off since my kids don't go to school in Boston. :sad2: I hope you are enjoying your day off.). I'll try to be back later today.

Hi to everyone!

Hi to everyone!

Your kids must not go to school in Suffolk County -- Boston, Chelsea, Revere and Winthrop -- I was actually surprised ds had today off since we moved him to Revere. I learned something new! :teacher:

I hope they had a great day and weren't too jealous of the kids hanging out at home today...now they're one day ahead in learning!

Ok, I have to grab some lunch before I pick ds up from the pool party. I went to the Disney Store and it was slim pickins. I don't think it's worth the trip now ds is a tween. :sad1:

Happy St. Patrick's Day! :shamrock:

Hey Everyone, I missed the Monday mixer because I was out of town. So today is like Monday to me. Hmmm, my favorite Disney character - it would either have to be Capt. Jack Sparrow because he's such a rogue, I would love to live that life, and Johnny Depp is just so over the top good in the role. Or Goofy - because, again, I just try not to take myself too seriously.

Oh, BTW, I'm procrastinating here at work. I'm struggling to review a grant for the National Science Foundation.

DSC02771.jpg

Oh man! I missed the mixer again! I don't quite know how it happened this week. However, I wanted to thank everyone for asking about me and let you all know that I am pretty much mostly OK now. The fever broke late last week, but I am still kind of coughing (cough, cough) now and then. I can't believe how much that virus knocked me out!

Liz - I will definitely see you at the Beach Club! I've got your number in my cell phone, though I'm not actually packed at all.....

Favorite Disney Character (if it's not too late to say so) - I think my favorites are all sort of bit-players. Top of my list is Scuttle. He is hilarious, and a master of improvisation. I also love Chef Louis from The Little Mermaid. Brilliant. In addition, I have a soft spot for Nana, the dog in Peter Pan, as I played that role in the stage play at one time. (Woof! Woof!). And finally, as they'd say in the Laugh Floor Comedy Club,

That Guy:

P1100650.jpg

Yes, my only "character photo" from the Half is with Liver Lips, cause he had no line. :rotfl2:

And if I have to pick a favorite character from the main players, I guess it would be Ariel. Though she got a lot better deal than the original Little Mermaid ended up with. Which is nice. I'm happy for her.
